Dante sat on the pastel sofa in the patio of his mansion, head resting on one palm while the other held a glass of whiskey.

He massaged his temple slowly, his eyes red, looking more frustrated than sad.

The Clara he had fallen for would never have said that.

‘It’s just a baby. We paid her to do a job.’

Dante took a long sip. The whiskey burned, but the words kept playing, and under them, another voice surfaced.

"So a hedge fund manager is worth more than a nurse?"

He closed his eyes.

Dante had been so sure of himself. "Whatever pays most is what society values most. Money is the honest scoreboard."But the stranger on the other side of the internet had not backed down. “The market also says a nanny is worth less than a car. Some work can't be priced. You can pay for it, but the pay is never the

“Like I said, it's completely personal, if you're not okay, you can leave.” Felix reiterated as he stood a few feet away from where she was sitting. Cassandra pressed her lip into a thin line, “It's fine, Doc. Go ahead.” Felix cleared his throat and smiled, “You don't seem to recognise me at all.” Cassandra raised a brow, “Am I supposed to?” “Well, I was hoping you would. We were in the same class at Royal Heights high school for three years and always competed for the first position. I could never forget you.” Cassandra’s lips parted slightly in recognition. “Oh, Felix Truman. It's you.” She didn't recognise him. Not really. But she remembered the name. Truman. He was the only student that sometimes scored above her.But Cassandra had never considered it a competition. Hell, she just wanted to be done with high school and move to college. “You were always a loner and never even responded when others spoke to you except Seraphina. It's understandable you wouldn't recognise me.”

“Oh, careful!” Cassandra winced, leaning back on the chair, her hands hovering over her lips. Dante quickly stepped out of the car and opened the door to her seat, leaning forward to inspect her face.“Are you alright? I’m so sorry, I panicked.” Cassandra glanced at the blood that stained her finger, sighing as she rolled her eyes, “We are going to the hospital anyways, let’s get it treated there.” Dante sighed and nodded, his face pale with guilt as he returned to his seat. Cassandra wiped the blood off with a tissue. Even after the car started, Dante kept glancing at her through the rear-view mirror. Despite the pain, Cassandra hid her face and smiled. She knew why he’d reacted that way.Pookie face. That nickname triggered him. It was the nickname she’d given him during their online dating. But she had only ever said it during calls. Clara never could have known it.“You keep staring, any problem?” Cassandra questioned, trying to force him to say something. “I—uh that name.

“Don't play dumb with me, Cassie. What were you doing being so close to my husband?” Clara bellowed furiously. Cassandra flipped her hair sideways, carefully putting on her earrings like someone wasn't crashing out behind her. Clara's chest rose and fell fast, her eyes slowly turning red with anger. “I’m talking to you, Cassandra. You’re my sister, are you really trying to steal my husband?” “Exactly, Clara. We’re sisters, do you really think I'd snatch your husband? Would you ever do that to me?” Clara's jaw tightened, her eyes swelling with rage at Cassandra's backhanded jab. “You—”Cassandra turned sharply, facing her, “When you went through our chat before deleting my profile, did you not see that I even learnt the lyrics for him?” “If you were going to be so insecure about the man you skillfully stole, maybe you shouldn't have stolen him.” Clara's lips twitched with anger but she couldn't utter a word. Cassandra grabbed her bag from the table and walked towards the door.

Dante and Cassandra had been so deep into their conversations that they didn't notice Clara standing at the foot of the stairs watching them. At first she'd just been annoyed that the two were laughing after humiliating her like that earlier. She wanted to leave quietly, but at that moment, Cassandra suddenly stood up from where she was seated and moved to Dante’s sofa while showing him something on her phone. And when their eyes locked for a little too long, her insecurities kicked in immediately. Her sister or not, Cassandra was still the woman he had fallen in love with first. What if she managed to make him fall for her again? Clara quickly walked behind their sofa, hands resting on the sofa as she leaned forward, her face between them.“I hope I am not interrupting anything?” She tried to keep her voice even. Dante quickly shifted back, clearing his throat as he looked up at Clara with a forced smile. “Clara. You're here.” His voice came out rough, trembling slightly at th

As soon as Cassandra disappeared from their sight, Dante shook Clara off, his fingers curling into fists. “It's not what I think it is, right?” Clara dropped her gaze, realizing Dante already clocked what happened. Anyone with common sense would. “It's just a necklace and bracelet,” she said, forcing a weak smile. “I don't know why she overreacted like—” “CLARA!” Dante bellowed, his eyes quickly turning bloodshot, startling her, “You have a fucking walk-in closet.”“Your jewelry collection is worth over $10+ million. Your bank card has no daily limit. You could buy more if you wanted to. Did you really need to take your sister's?” Dante was almost out of breath now. For almost a minute Clara stared blankly at him, her brows still raised in disbelief. Dante had never raised his voice at her before. That realization scared her. Her innocent lady facade was thinning away. She couldn't be angry now. Instead, she sniffed and quickly wiped beneath her eyes, even though no tears had fa
