Chapter 4

Author: Eggtart
Sophia had actually said the one thing I had spent years trying to bury.

When I was ten years old, my parents' enemies kidnapped me to blackmail them.

While I was being held captive, a group of depraved men sexually humiliated me. They exposed themselves and masturbated in front of me.

After that, I shut myself off from the world for three whole years.

Back then, my sister had been heartbroken for me. Seeing me in so much pain, she wished she could take it all upon herself.

For all these years, no one in the family had ever dared mention what happened.

"See? Doesn't hearing that make you feel much better? Steven isn't perfect, either. In my heart, you're the best!"

The moment those words came out, the dam broke. Tears streamed down my face as I sobbed. Every convulsion sent searing pain through my battered body.

Just to cheer Zachary up, she had publicly exposed the deepest scar I had buried in my heart. It was a wound that would never heal.

For a moment, I truly couldn't tell whether she was still my sister.

'Forget it. From the day Zachary entered our family, the sister I once knew had already died.'

The overwhelming grief made me cough up another mouthful of blood.

Right then, the entire yacht fell into a commotion.

It turned out Zachary had gotten seasick, so they were heading back to shore.

The cleaning lady's eyes lit up and she exclaimed happily, "Young man, you're saved! You're finally going to be saved! Ms. Sinclair really adores her younger brother. Otherwise, this yacht would never have returned to shore."

I said nothing and only forced a bitter smile.

The moment we docked, the cleaning lady hurriedly called an ambulance for me.

At the same time, Sophia urgently summoned a private air medical team for Zachary.

Unfortunately, the helicopter and the ambulance arrived at the same time.

Sophia carried Zachary straight onto the helicopter, where the medical team immediately began treating his seasickness.

In the process, they completely blocked the ambulance's path.

One of the emergency responders jumped out and shouted anxiously, "Ma'am! Could you please take off first and clear the way? There's a critically injured patient inside. Even a one-minute delay could cost him his life!"

Sophia ignored him at first, but the doctor refused to give up and kept pleading with her.

Growing impatient, she slid open the helicopter window and snapped, "My brother is seasick! He's been vomiting nonstop! No one is more important than him. As for whoever's in the yacht, if he dies, then he dies. That's just his fate!"

She muttered another curse before slamming the window shut.

The doctor was left helpless. He paced anxiously on the spot.

In the end, the medical team lifted a stretcher and squeezed through the narrow gap beside the helicopter to reach me.

At last, I was lifted onto the stretcher.

The moment the doctors saw me, every single one of them gasped. As they raced toward the ambulance with my stretcher, they couldn't stop lamenting the horrifying extent of my injuries.

As we passed Sophia's private medical helicopter again, one of her friends happened to open the window. The instant she caught a glimpse of the side of my face, she stumbled backward and fell to the floor in shock.

Stammering, she said to Sophia, "S-Sophia, I-I think that's Steven on the stretcher!"

The very next second, Sophia frowned and kicked her hard.

"Don't be ridiculous! How could he possibly be here? Besides, he's far too calculating to let himself end up in real danger!"

Hearing that, her friend swallowed the words she had been about to say.

She was the one who had brought me onto the yacht.

After all, she convinced herself that my injuries had all been self-inflicted as part of another scheme. There was no way someone like me would actually end up in an ambulance. She must have been mistaken.

Due to Zachary's seasickness, Sophia stayed by his side and cared for him day and night for three consecutive days.

By the time she had nearly forgotten about me, she received a call from our parents saying they would soon be returning home to celebrate my perfect scores.

Counting the days, she assumed my wounds had already healed after the hydrotherapy and that it was time to let me out.

Just as she was about to call the servants and tell them to release me, she received a phone call from our housekeeper, Brianna.

"The hospital has delivered the Mr. Steven's death certificate!"

Has something happened to Steven?""Say something!" Mom cried out. Both of them were frantic with tears.Right then, Mom's phone rang. It was a call from the hospital."Hello, are you Steven Sinclair's mother?"Mom had a bad feeling about this. Choking back tears, she replied, "Yes."The doctor's voice sounded solemn. "We've finally reached you. Mr. Sinclair's injuries were too severe. Despite our best efforts, we couldn't save him. His body is now in the morgue. Please accept our deepest condolences."The phone slipped from Mom's hand. She collapsed onto the

Zachary's pitiful expression alone was enough to melt anyone's heart. One little act of vulnerability, and people couldn't help but protect him.Sophia had been no exception. But this time, she didn't indulge him. Instead, she raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face."I'd like to see how much longer you can keep up the act!"She then played the surveillance videos one by one in front of him.The more Zachary watched, the more twisted his expression became. He kept denying it.Consumed by rage, Sophia grabbed him by the chin."Zachary! I never imagined you'd been lying to me all these years! If anything happens to Steven, I won't let you live either!"Right then, her phone rang. It was our parents."Sophia, we've already arrived at the banquet. Why aren't you and Steven here yet? Bring him over quickly. Your mother and I have missed him so much."She answered absentmindedly, "Okay."After hanging up, she immediately ordered everyone to intensify the search for me

At school, Zachary often had his peers harass and bully me.At first, I would go home in tears, begging my sister to stand up for me.But by then, it seemed Zachary was the only brother she cared about. The moment I cried, he would cry even harder, turning the tables and accusing me of bullying him instead. She believed him, not me.Every time, she would scold me and punish me in all kinds of ways just to comfort Zachary. As time went on, I stopped telling anyone about the bullying I suffered at school. I endured it all in silence.I thought everything would get better once I finished the SAT test and left for college, so I studied even harder. All I wanted was to get as far away from my sister as possible. The moment my test results came out, I was overjoyed. My score was high enough that I could attend a college far from home and far away from her.I never imagined that one smile of relief would make my sister fly into a rage, and that it would cost me my life.Even after de

'He bullied Zachary so badly that Zachary came home crying almost every day. Every time Zachary saw me, he would tearfully tell me another story about how Steven had mistreated him.'Over time, Sophia became convinced that I was calculating and malicious. Zachary had already lost his parents. He was merely living under the Sinclair family's roof. He hadn't taken my parents away, nor had he stolen Sophia from me. All he wanted was a place to stay and enough to eat. Yet, I wouldn't even leave him that much.Even during the SAT test, I had known Zachary performed poorly, yet I laughed when I saw my own perfect score. If that wasn't humiliating Zachary, what was?But now that she thought about it, other than seeing me laugh while checking my exam results, she had never actually witnessed me bullying Zachary.Everything she knew had come from Zachary himself and from her best friend. The more she thought about it, the worse her headache became. For the first time, she began to won

Sophia squeezed her eyes shut, seemingly trying to suppress the anger welling up inside her."If you don't want to work for the Sinclair family anymore, then get out!" she snapped. "Stop helping Steven lie to me! With our parents away, I'm the one in charge of this family. I can fire you whenever I want. What did Steven promise you to make you side with him like this?"She took a deep breath before continuing."Wash him up and let him out. Have him put on the custom suit I ordered for him. Mom and Dad are coming home to celebrate with him."Brianna had watched me grow up. Holding my death certificate, she cried so hard she could barely speak."Ms. Sinclair, I-I'm not lying. If you come to the hospital, you'll see for yourself. Mr. Steven's body is still in the morgue. Only his family can claim him. Please bring him home."Her voice trembled over the phone, but Sophia only grew more irritated. She clicked her tongue."Fine! Then let him keep this act up! Just to make me worry abo
