Chapter 2

Author: Egg Tart
Norris gestured for the butler to escort Liam away, and the lively full moon ceremony came to an early end.

The pack members dispersed in small groups, but before leaving, they didn't forget to throw me gloating looks.

Norris walked up to me, placed a hand on my shoulder, and leaned close to my ear.

"A son is never as thoughtful as a daughter. Why don't we have another pup?"

His eyes were full of desire, and he made no effort to hide what he wanted.

He knew exactly what I had meant earlier, but he didn't care.

In his eyes, what could a shewolf who couldn't even summon her wolf spirit possibly do?

He probably never truly believed I would leave.

After all, he was the mighty Alpha, the revered leader of Keplin Pack.

I was merely a shewolf the pack had taken in, a shewolf who had only been given the title of Luna because of him.

As long as he was still willing to reach out his hand, I should be grateful and stay by his side.

I backed away and put some distance between us. My voice grew cold and distant. "Your beloved Evelyn is coming back soon. Since you're looking forward to seeing her so much, go to her."

Back then, Garcia Pack and Keplin Pack had arranged a political marriage. Evelyn had said she wanted to pursue her freedom.

So she secretly followed an expeditionary force to the battlefield, directly violating the agreement between the two packs.

Enraged, Norris completed a marking ceremony with me on the night of the full moon.

That was how I was forced to become Norris' mate in name and return with him to Keplin Pack.

Later, I unexpectedly became with pup and was forced to give birth to Liam.

His birth gave the two packs, which had been on the verge of breaking apart, a reason to remain connected and ultimately stabilized their relationship.

I thought they would treat me better because of that, but looking back now, I had merely fulfilled the purpose they needed me for.

Once Liam was born, the last bit of my value had been used up.

Norris' hand remained suspended in midair. Seeing how quickly I was trying to distance myself from him, he didn't get angry.

"Are you seriously getting upset over something a pup said when he doesn't even know better? You know that the role of his mother and the position of Luna both belong to you."

I snorted. "Then what do you think the daughter you have with Evelyn should call Liam?"

He froze.

I didn't want to stay there any longer. I only said one thing. "Do you really have nothing to do with the way Liam turned out?"

I turned to leave, but Norris' mocking laugh came from behind me.

"What? You can't summon your own wolf spirit, your own son despises you, and now you want to blame me, his father?

"You should be grateful he's still young and doesn't have the authority to drive you out of the pack.

"A loser is a loser. Are you going to stop me from speaking the truth?"

Before my pack fell apart, I had possessed a wolf of my own.

After the war, I lost my family and everyone I loved. Evelyn's mother, Mariah Garcia, took me in, and I became a member of Garcia Pack.

When we were young, Evelyn was always crying and throwing tantrums. She was always demanding to know why I was trying to steal her parents from her.

She even turned the other pack members against me, saying I was an unwanted orphan with nowhere to go.

After that, I could no longer summon the wolf inside me.

Back then, Norris would find me whenever they locked me away and sternly warn them, "Christiana is one of your pack members. You're not allowed to bully her."

He had been like a ray of light in my dark world.

I thought he loved me.

In the end, it had only been my own illusion.

I lowered my head, and my voice filled with self-mockery. "We never formed a mate bond. All these years, you haven't even marked me. In a way, you still don't have a real mate."

Norris froze for a moment before laughing dismissively. "You're only saying that because you're afraid your position as Luna isn't secure without a mate bond. So you're worried you can't compete with Evelyn after all."

No one knew that even though we already had a pup together, we had never formed a mate bond or even registered our marriage. It didn't matter anyway.

We were going to separate in the end. There was no point in registering it.

My clenched fist slowly relaxed, and I turned to leave.

From behind me, I heard him ask, "Are you really in such a hurry? Fine. When I have time, I'll take you to Moon Goddess."

The sound of the door closing was my only response.

Not long afterward, someone knocked on my door.

One day, I was playing with Denise when Nina suddenly brought me a letter from Mariah.[Dear Christiana, how have you been lately?]Most of the letter was nothing more than meaningless small talk. At the end, she said she missed me and hoped I could return to Garcia Pack for a visit if I had the chance.I had thought that after our falling-out, we would have nothing to do with each other anymore.I didn't reply, but I received another letter from her every day.In her letters, she mentioned that Norris had terminated the alliance and that Garcia Pack was in a precarious situation. She hoped that, for old times' sake, I could plead with him on their behalf.I grew so annoyed that I finally wrote back, telling them to promise they would never bother me again. After all, they had once said that once I gave birth to Liam, they wouldn't ask anything else of me.Unfortunately, they later went back on their word.I agreed simply because I wanted some peace and quiet, but there was n

I never expected these two to be so persistent.Liam brought me snacks every day. No matter how many times I refused, he never gave up.Norris placed a bouquet of wildflowers outside my window every single day without fail.Sometimes, there would even be game they had hunted waiting outside my door.I threw every single one of those things into the trash.Later, Norris came to apologize to me more than once.He said he hadn't known what I had gone through in Garcia Pack.He had always assumed that I received his mark simply to fulfill the pack's duty.As for Evelyn, he had thought I was merely being distrustful of him. "I didn't know your wolf spirit was sealed because of what they did. Come back with me. I'll find a way to heal you."But I refused. My wolf spirit had been sealed because of the trauma I suffered as a pup.Returning with them to the place filled with painful memories wasn't going to make me better. Now that I was living in the Kara Pack, no one mocked me for

Nina took Denise away, while I stayed behind with Liam as he continued receiving treatment. His injuries weren't serious, but they were certainly difficult for a pup to endure.Hearing him call me Mom, I couldn't bring myself to simply turn around and leave. This was the last time I would accompany him."Mom, I want some cookies too."I smiled bitterly. They were nothing more than snacks I'd casually made. The ingredients and taste were nowhere near as good as the ones he'd crushed beneath his feet before. When I didn't answer, Liam looked uneasy. He carefully tugged at the hem of my shirt and awkwardly tried to get my attention. "Mom, I don't want cookies anymore. Can we go home?"Dad and I can make some for you. Please don't be angry anymore."I pulled my shirt out of his grasp and took a deep breath. "Liam, I told you. I agreed to grant your wish. From now on, I'm not your mom anymore."This is the last time I'll see you. Let's treat it as our final goodbye."I turned arou

Liam stood among the werewolves behind me. A claw mark was clearly visible on his face.Further down, his shoulder was covered in a bite wound that hadn't been treated yet."The two pups got into a fight at the hunting grounds. Denise was the one who attacked first."Is this how Kara Pack treats its guests?"Liam took two steps toward me. His head was lowered as if waiting for me to embrace him.I didn't react. Instead, I crouched down and gently stroked Denise's head."What happened? Don't be afraid. Tell me everything."Denise pointed at Liam indignantly. "He snatched my stuff first!"I was tired, so I sat down and ate the cookies you made for me. I was nice enough to share half with him, but he took all of them!"As Denise spoke, she began crying pitifully again. My heart ached when I saw her like that, so I quickly pulled her into my arms and comforted her softly.Liam froze nearby. The eyes that had once refused to spare me even a glance were now filled with tears. He

Norris stood there while the sunlight outlined his figure with a golden glow.He looked much more haggard now, and he no longer carried the refined air he once had.His eyes were fixed firmly on me. It was as if he had expected this reunion all along. With the strength of the Keplin Pack, finding out where I was hadn't exactly been difficult for him, but what I hadn't expected was for him to actually appear in front of me.I didn't have time to catch up with him. I continued sprinting as fast as I could, but he overtook me and blocked my path."Didn't we agree you'd wait for me to come home? This isn't our home."I quickly changed direction, but he caught up with me again and again."Why did you leave without saying goodbye? Liam and I miss you so much. He hasn't been able to sleep properly each night–"I snarled at him. The fur along my body was standing on end."Get out of my way! Don't be an idiot and cause trouble!"I shoved him aside and sprinted toward the hunting groun

Everything's ready. Come on, follow me." She enthusiastically linked her arm through mine, while Denise came over and grabbed my hand.Denise kept talking excitedly beside me. "Mom and I prepared a big welcome feast for you!"Warmth spread through my heart. So this was what it felt like to be loved. And so, I settled down in Kara Pack.Every day, Nina and I would run across the grasslands together, and whenever we had free time, we'd go hunting. She joked that my hunting skills hadn't changed
