Chapter 5

"I think it was called Hammie."

The atmosphere suddenly changed.

Amelia clearly didn't believe it.

"Oh, now you're dragging Mr. Graham into this?

"Anyone can bring a dog here and claim it belongs to Mr. Graham. His dog is so precious to him. Why would he leave it with you?"

She snorted before turning to comfort Kylie.

"Even if it really is Mr. Graham's dog, so what? It's just an animal. Can it really be more important than a person?

"Kylie, don't let her intimidate you. She's just using Mr. Graham's name to act superior in front of you!"

I stopped wasting my time arguing with them.

"Whether I'm bluffing or not, we'll find out soon enough."

After saying that, I picked up Hammie and prepared to take it to the vet.

Kylie blocked my way.

"Ms. Lawson, I don't want to make this a bigger issue.

"How about this? Get down on your knees right now and apologize to me. Promise me you'll never bother Christopher again, and I'll pretend today never happened."

She paused, and her eyes welled up with tears again.

"I won't pursue the fact that you hit me, and I won't pursue what happened with the dog either, okay?"

People around us started whispering.

"Kylie is way too kind."

"Exactly. She got hit and she's still being so understanding."

"If it were me, I would've called the police already."

I snorted.

"Are you telling me to kneel and apologize to you? And you want me to pretend none of this happened?"

I looked directly into Kylie's eyes and uttered, "Dream on!"

Kylie huddled close to Amelia, and her voice trembled.

"Ms. Lawson, why are you being so aggressive? I really just wanted to settle this peacefully."

Amelia completely lost her temper.

"Fine! So you're refusing kindness and choosing punishment instead, aren't you?"

She turned to face the crowd and raised her voice.

"Everyone listen carefully! This woman seduced Mr. Graham, bullied Kylie, and even let her dog hurt Kylie!

"If we don't teach her a lesson today, she'll really think she's the boss of everyone!"

She pointed at several strong male employees.

"You guys, come here! Hold her down!"

The male employees looked at each other and hesitated.

Amelia glared at them.

"What? My position as deputy director of the marketing department means nothing now? Or do you want to get fired along with her?"

After hearing that, the men reluctantly walked over and grabbed my arms on both sides.

I shouted angrily.

"Let go of me, I'm Christopher's–"

Before I could finish, Amelia walked over and slapped me across the face again.

"Do you still want to drag Mr. Graham into this? You really have no shame!"

She reached out and patted my cheek.

"I'm going to teach you a lesson today. Otherwise, who knows how many families you'll ruin in the future?"

She turned to the people beside her.

"Take off her clothes! Record a video and post it online! Let the whole country see what a woman who steals someone else's fiance looks like!"

Several female colleagues hesitated, but under Amelia's intimidating stare, they still stepped forward.

"Let go of me!"

I struggled desperately, but with people holding me from both sides, I couldn't move.

Kylie stood nearby with her hand covering her mouth. It looked like she was crying, but I clearly saw her smiling through the gaps between her fingers.

Just as the first person grabbed my collar and was about to pull it down, a furious voice came from outside the lobby.

"What do you think you're doing?"
