Chapter 4

Author: Tomato Bun
"I'm warning you. Know your place. Get on your knees right now and apologize to Kylie. Don't force us to post screenshots of all the things you've done online and let everyone see what kind of shameless old woman you are!"

Looking at my broken phone on the ground, I tried to stay calm, but I couldn't completely suppress my anger.

Just as I was about to speak, Kylie suddenly grabbed my arm. Tears fell from her eyes.

"Ms. Lawson! Please! I know you're a good person. Please, just have mercy on me. Don't take Christopher away from me, okay?"

Her voice sounded pitiful, but her fingernails dug painfully into my skin.

Hammie, who was in my arms, felt my body tense up. With a loud howl, he suddenly leaped forward.

His paws had barely touched the ground. Before he could even steady himself, Kylie acted as if she had been frightened. She screamed and kicked Hammie in the stomach.

Hammie let out a heartbreaking yelp. His tiny body flew backward, rolled several times across the floor, and only stopped after hitting the corner of the wall.

I felt blood surging straight to my head.

"Hammie!"

I ran over and kneeled down. My hands were trembling.

Hammie's eyes were half closed. His little belly rose and fell as he endured the pain.

"Oh no! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"

Kylie covered her mouth. Her tears fell even harder.

"I didn't mean to! The dog suddenly jumped at me and scared me. I really didn't mean it."

She turned to face the crowd and started crying pitifully.

Amelia immediately stepped forward and put an arm around her shoulder.

"This isn't your fault! Some people have no shame, and of course the dog they raise has no manners either!"

The others immediately agreed.

"Exactly! Why bring a dog to a public space? It frightened someone, and she still acts like she's in the right?"

"Kylie, don't blame yourself. It's not your fault!"

"A shameless woman's dog is just as shameless. It deserves to die!"

Kylie walked over with tears in her eyes and reached out to touch Hammie.

"Don't touch it!"

I slapped her hand away.

Kylie let out a cry and fell onto the ground. She started bawling her eyes out.

"Ms. Lawson, I just wanted to apologize. Why did you hit me?"

She covered her hand and cried uncontrollably.

Amelia completely lost it.

"How dare you hit her?"

She charged forward and reached for my hair.

I stepped back. Her nails scratched across my neck. It stung like hell.

I finally lost my temper.

"Do you know how important this dog is to Christopher? If anything happens to it, forget about marrying into the Graham family!"

Hammie was curled up in my arms and still trembling.

I looked down at it. My heart clenched painfully.

Back then, my husband and I were busy with work, so Christopher was raised by his grandmother.

Hammie was the birthday gift his grandmother had given him when he turned eighteen.

Not long after that, she passed away.

It had happened so suddenly. She suffered from a brain hemorrhage. Christopher never even got the chance to see her one last time.

From then on, Hammie became the one thing that kept his memories of his grandmother alive. He once said he would take care of Hammie for the rest of its life.

He also said that any woman he dated would have to pass Hammie's test first. If Hammie didn't like someone, he would never choose her.

Kylie seemed to remember something. The grievance on her face froze, and she frowned slightly.

Someone nearby whispered, "Mr. Graham really does have a corgi. I think he posted it on his account."

"You're right. I've seen it too. What was its name again?"

"Is that why you lied to me, told me your parents were dead, and claimed to be pregnant?"Kylie's crying stopped instantly."I-I really am pregnant.""You're not."Christopher's voice was cold as ice."I already had someone investigate. You forged the pregnancy report."All color drained from Kylie's face.Slowly, she crouched down and cried until her entire body was trembling.Christopher finally turned away. He didn't look at her again."Leave."When Kylie was leaving, her eyes were terribly swollen. Her makeup was completely ruined from crying."Ms. Lawson, do you hate me a lot?"I sat on the sofa and looked at her."I don't hate you. I sympathize with what happened to you, but you lied to Christopher. I can't forgive that."Kylie lowered her head and was silent for a long while."I know I don't deserve Christopher, but I really do love him."It's not because he's rich, but because he understands me. No one has ever supported me the way he has."I sighed."Loving s

"Mom, I'm going to marry her. I want this child."She was wrong for what happened before, but I was wrong too. I'm the one who made her misunderstand things, and that's why you suffered so much at the company. If you need someone to blame, blame me instead!" Christopher exclaimed.Adam placed his coffee on the table. There was a soft clink."Do you have any idea–"I grabbed his hand and gently shook my head.I knew Adam too well.He was a man of uncompromising standards. With his personality, he would immediately throw the investigation results in Kylie's face and tell her to stay away from the Graham family. But I also knew Christopher. He had always been someone who valued relationships above everything else.Once he decided someone mattered to him, no one could change his mind.If we told him the truth right now, he wouldn't believe us. I waved. I didn't have the energy to watch her act anymore."We still have things to deal with here. You should head back first."In the end, Kylie reluctantly left. She kept turning back after taking a few steps, but Christopher never stopped her. After she left, I said to Adam, "Look into her. If she's going to marry into the Graham family, we need to make sure she has a clean background."Adam nodded. He retrieved his phone and sent a message. The vet said Hammie only suffered minor internal bruising. There was no serious injury. It just needed to rest at home.Christopher finally relaxed. She said she came to apologize.Christopher wasn't there. I asked the nurse to accept the gifts and didn't meet her.

"So Kylie was the one who asked Amelia to step forward?""Then why was she pretending to be innocent the whole time?""Who knows?"Kylie bit her lip, and tears kept falling down her face. She looked extremely wronged. But this time, no one went to comfort her.Meanwhile, Hammie was brought into the vet's examination room.Christopher stood in the hallway, leaned against the wall with his hands in his pockets, and lowered his head without saying a word.I sat on a bench nearby. There was a piece of gauze taped to my neck, and my knee was bandaged as well.Adam sat beside me with one hand resting on my shoulder. His thumb gently rubbed my nape back and forth."The quality of your company's employees is concerning," Adam said calmly.Christopher's body stiffened slightly."I'll deal with it.""How?"Christopher was silent for a few seconds. He then retrieved his phone. His voice returned to its usual calmness, but this time there was a hint of coldness in it."Amelia Jolie,

When they saw who had arrived, the female colleagues holding onto my collar froze. Their hands stopped in midair. They didn't know whether to continue or let go."M-Mr. Graham, why are you here?"Amelia immediately smiled and stepped forward. She wanted to greet my husband Adam, but he didn't even look at her. He walked straight toward me.He took off his suit jacket and draped it over my shoulders. He then gently checked my wounds.Christopher stood right behind Adam. His eyes were filled with shock and anger."What did you do to my mother?"Those words made everyone in the lobby freeze. Then came a collective gasp."What did Mr. Graham just call her? Mother?""Ms. Lawson isn't his mistress. She's actually Mr. Graham's mother!""Thank goodness we didn't listen to Amelia and help out."The whispers spread through the crowd. Some people looked relieved, while others looked terrified.Amelia's face turned pale. Her lips trembled, and she couldn't say a single word.Kylie stoo
