Chapter 9

You see how Luke looks at the principal. It was something that made him scared to death.

Oh my! He is so disappointed in me.

Is he going to give up on me now as how my father gave up on me and left me?

Then, he grabs your arms and gently drags you out of the classroom.

Mr. principal was left in shock. I don't know how am I going to deal with this in the coming school days

This is going to be a ride going home in deafening silence. I just hope he won't think of leaving me.

We arrived home and Luke hasn't spoken a word since we left school.

“How difficult it is to give a call or at least send a message?”

I see him walking back and forth - his hands on his hips, the other one touching his chin after every several steps he makes.

“Please listen to me. I just do not want to bother you. I know I always do.”

“Ugh. Really? That is so lame!”

“I don't know what could exactly be the reason for his exasperation.”

Does he know about the Emma situation? the not sending him a message? Or, he might have read how the principal spoke to me.

“Look. You have been so good to me and I cannot afford to just always be a burden to you.”

“I am not having this conversation!”

I see him directly walking towards his bedroom after he said that.

What I said was pathetic but true. I hate to always feel how much of a burden I have been to him.

I sat on a chair then Monty shows up.

“Hey, young woman! Cheer up. It's Chinese night tonight, remember? Fix yourself and let's go. He will be back in a minute.”

“We’ll dine at our favorite Chinese restaurant tonight every Wednesday. I guess this isn't the regular Wednesday of our life.”

“Uhm. Thanks, Monty. But I think he isn't coming and I won't either. Who wants to eat alone in our favorite place?”

“Tsk. tsk. tsk. Don't take it to heart. You know how he reacts when he gets worried.”

“He doesn't seem worried to me. I think he hates me.”

I am sad about what just happened but knowing Luke is worried about me makes my heart smile.

He always has been a Knight since he took me in from my horrible past.

Why don't you try confirming it yourself? Go ahead and knock at his door.

Monty may be right, I should follow his advice.

Monty is right. Luke isn't fond of showing his weaknesses that I don't know if he even has one.

He cares about me.

I stood from where I was seated taking all the courage I have left in my bones.

“Go on. He isn't as tough and as cold as you think.”

“Did I hear it, right? He isn't as tough and as cold as how he comes off to be.”

I like him tough. I like the amount of coldness he sometimes makes me feel. I find it sexy.

Did I just call my guardian, sexy? Am I out of my mind?! These thoughts are making me feel ashamed of myself.

“I'm gonna have the car ready. I'm pretty sure he'll come.”

“He has been so good to me, Monty. But I sometimes feel intimidated by him.”

“Haha. Oh! I was too. Don't get me wrong. We were not as close as this when I started working for him.”

He has always been mysterious. Ironic. That mysterious persona of his even draws me in as time passes by.

A lot of memories of living under the same roof with him flash in my head. I feel the warmness in my heart.

“I don't know Monty. Maybe I had enough going on for today. We can have it some other time.”

“I respect that. Please bear with him. You just don't know how much you mean to him.”

"Let me just get you a drink."

I just suddenly heard the sound of the door opening.

"Woohoo! I don't like waiting. Where are you?"

Not again. Really? Is he having this tonight after everything happened?

I already know what kind of nights are these for Luke. Rough days usually end like this.
