My mother was silent for a long time before she finally nodded slowly, as if pieces of memory were starting to return one by one.

“Yes. Andex’s son…” she murmured. “His name is Asher. He lives in the northern mountains now, outside any pack territory. Ever since his father died, he chose to live in solitude. Not many people know about him.”

That was all she said. No other details. No address, no way to find him. But to me, that was enough.

She looked at me with questioning eyes, and finally voiced the thought in her heart, “Raine, why are you asking about Asher? What are you looking for in him?”

I looked down for a moment, then raised my face and answered honestly. “I need a martial arts teacher. Someone who can train me seriously.”

My mother looked confused. A slight frown formed on her smooth forehead. “But there are many great fighters in the Shadowfang Pack. We have a combat academy, and senior warriors you can choose from. Why someone from outside the pack?”
