Lina’s POV

I appreciated motivations. They helped me get things done faster.

Life was a great motivator, too. It usually urged me forward using simple things like goals or words. But now, Riven had joined the mix.

I needed no one to tell me that my new stepbrother was a devil. A real one. And he ruled LA. Not subtly, but fucking openly. He cut off the hands of that jerk at college without any consequences at all. The LAPD came, but they did absolutely nothing.

Riven ruled this hell, and I was going to get out of it.

How? Simple. I’d find his watch, file for an internship in another country, and leave.

So, as I stepped into the hotel club, I felt determined. Our very first encounter happened here, and he lost his watch right after. I hoped I might find some clues.

Unsurprisingly, the club pulsated with life. Through the heavy bass that thrummed in my chest, I slipped between dancing bodies. Soon, I slid onto a high stool in front of the counter.

“What can I get you?” the bartender asked, throwing a look my way.

My throat moved as I glanced at the stacks of drinks on the shelves. I knew better than to take a sip of anything. I needed to keep a clear head to find this watch.

“Riven Rykerthrone. He comes here a lot, doesn’t he?” I went straight to business.

The bartender’s face fell before he snickered and leaned in. “Y’know, asking about The Grim Reaper himself isn’t wise.” He cocked his head.

It took me a second to process his words. Riven wasn’t just anyone in LA. I’d heard and seen his brutality, and now I wondered, Just how did I get entangled with The Grim Reaper?

“Fuck my life,” I mumbled, driving my fingers through my brown hair.

The bartender stepped back, and shortly after, a glass of whiskey sat in front of me. “Here.”

I glanced at the glowing brown liquid. Truly, I felt tempted to gulp it down. There was nothing better than alcohol when it came to forgetting shit. But as I reached for it...

“Adelina.”

My outstretched fingers froze midair. That baritone voice could only belong to one person. One man. One fucking ex.

“Adelina,” the voice cut through the club noise again.

I turned to the side, and my eyes were cursed for the second time today. His tousled platinum-blonde hair and lip piercing were unmistakable. Our gazes collided. Our worlds were about to, too, because he started walking right toward me.

Hell no.

“Adelina!”

Without thinking, I jumped down from the stool and bolted. My hands reached for the railing once I hit a flight of stairs. Why was Princeton here?

The frantic pounding of my heart blocked out every noise, even his loud shouts behind me. I burst into a quiet hallway, and my attention fell on a door that was slightly open. I went straight for it.

“Adelina, please!”

I didn’t stop. The open door seemed like a gateway to safety, so I reached for the knob and dove right in.

But after I slammed the door shut and backed against it, I realized I had made a terrible mistake. I was in a literal hell because the devil himself stood right in front of me.

The shirtless, loosely towel-wearing devil stood there. Water dripped from his wet hair, framing his face. Even then, I could still see the dark amusement in those blue eyes.

“Are you tipsy, Miss Tequila?” he spoke, and God... I was screwed.

My thumping heart failed to block out the smooth taunt in his tone.

“Or did you miss me?” Riven chuckled, tilting his head.

The lights of the room seemed to highlight his chiseled body. I scrunched my nose at the sight. To think his body looked this clean while his soul was so incredibly dirty.

“Don’t be ridiculous,” I mumbled, pressing myself harder against the wood of the door.

I hated this. I resented it. I couldn’t go out because Princeton, a certified asshole, would see me. But I couldn't stay here either.

“I’m never ridiculous, love.” Riven took a step forward, and my breath turned shallow.

“Oh, please. Unfortunately, I’ve known you for less than twenty-four hours, and you’re a psychopath!” I yelled, my voice dripping with anger. My grip on the doorknob turned so tight my skin went pale, but I didn’t care. “You’re crazy, Riven. Absolutely mad. Once I find your watch, I’m getting outta here,” I added fiercely.

Still, he seemed completely unaffected and kept coming closer.

“You’ve traumatized me.” My voice shook a bit, growing softer. The space between me and this madman shrunk to nothing. “You... suffocate me.”

Riven truly did as he stood barely an inch away. His large shadow completely blocked the light, and for once, I didn’t hate being tall.

“I don’t feel safe anywhere. Not at the mansion. Not even at college. And now—”

“Now,” he cut me off expectantly, leaning closer. Too close.

“You’re my goddamn stepbrother. You know this, so let’s set boundaries,” I whispered, as if speaking of something forbidden. It was a request that should have been normal, sane, and logical.

But as Riven lifted a hand and grabbed my chin, I stared into his eyes. They belonged to someone abnormal, insane, and completely illogical.

“You begged me to use you. You begged to be mine. Remember?”

My breath caught. My body instinctively wanted to pull away as he snaked a hand around my waist, pulling me right against him.

“I—” The words got stuck in my throat.

“Adelina!” Princeton’s voice suddenly boomed from the hallway.

My eyes went wide, and I shoved my hand straight against Riven’s bare chest. I took advantage of the tiny bit of space, turned around, and pulled the doorknob, wanting to dash out. An asshole ex was better than a devil, right?

“Get away from me,” I gasped.

But Riven didn’t. In fact, he did something much worse.

Riven’s hold on my waist didn’t waver. His grip tightened, and his other hand moved up to the side of my neck. He held me firmly, pressing my back right against his hard chest. My lower back pressed directly into his lap.

A sharp breath escaped my lips as the heavy thuds of boots drew closer outside. The sound stopped completely as Princeton appeared in the open doorway.

I watched Princeton's face turn white as a ghost, his arms dangling lifelessly at his sides. I couldn't blame him. Who wouldn't be stunned at the sight of their ex being held up... like this?

“Prince—”

“As you can see,” Riven’s cool voice cut me off, freezing my tongue. I went completely quiet as he leaned down, his warm breath hitting the side of my neck. “She’s busy.”

He glared right at Princeton.

“Now shoo.”

  • My Stepbrother, My Damnation    Body, Mind, Soul

Lina’s POVI am a total fucking idiot.I should have gone back to Olivia’s apartment and dealt with whatever regular-degree disaster was waiting for me there. Instead, I ran straight into the absolute goddamn torture of this place. The Rykerthorne mansion is completely crawling with professional party planners, decorators, and high-end caterers. They are literally everywhere, buzzing around like expensive flies, organizing a lavish, high-society gala on a few hours' notice. And right in the center of the ring is Ma, barking orders, selecting what’s "best," and dragging me around like a brainless prop. The second I finally managed to slip away from her, I bolted into the bedroom they assigned me. It was my first time ever stepping foot inside this specific wing of the mansion, and I barely had time to look at the walls before the door flew open.Ma barged right in, dragging Olivia by the wrist."Look who I found wandering the grounds!" Ma practically beamed, her dazzling smile pla

  • My Stepbrother, My Damnation    Engagement Party

Lina’s POVEverything felt like a total illusion. My mind was a disjointed, blurred mess of overlapping images. The freezing night air, the dense scent of leather, the agonizingly distinct contrast of frozen metal against a burning, drug-induced heat, and a muffled shriek choked back into my own palm. After the climax had ripped through me, fracturing whatever sanity I had left, my brain had simply short-circuited. It felt like I had passed out right there on the seat, the darkness swallowing me whole before I could even face the reality of Nikolai rattling the car door handle. When my eyes finally fluttered open, the vehicle was gone. The parking lot was gone.I was staring up at a dark, minimalist ceiling. I was in Riven’s bed. In his penthouse. Again. But unlike the first time I had woken up in this room, trapped in his territory, I didn't scream. I didn't thrash around or act confused. The fire that had consumed my blood last night had burned down to ash. Now it left behin

  • My Stepbrother, My Damnation    Little Sister

Lina's POV Fuck, this leather seat is a cold slap against my bare ass, but the rest of me is a total goddamn furnace. Every single nerve ending is dialed up to a psychotic, agonizing frequency because of whatever the fuck was in that drink. I swear to God, I am going to find out who did this to me. I’m going to find the bastard who put their hands on my glass, and I will wrap my fingers around their throat until the light leaves their eyes. But right now?I can’t think past the raw, dripping ache between my legs. My body is a house on fire right now, and Riven is the only monster who knows how to burn it down completely. I am totally at the mercy of this poison.“Lina? Are you in there?”Nikolai’s voice drifts through the tinted glass again, closer this time. AA heavy, sickening wave of guilt twists in my stomach. He’s out there, a good man, trying to protect me. And here I am, flat on my back in the dark, dirtying myself. The shame tastes like pure ash.But then I look down,

  • My Stepbrother, My Damnation    In Control

Riven’s POVI didn't know what the fuck was wrong with Lina, but God, I fucking loved it.The second the music died, Lina had ripped herself out of my arms and bolted from the ballroom like her skin was on fire. I stood there on the marble floor, my breath rattling in my chest, completely deaf to the noise around us. The MC was on the microphone droning on about the mandatory dance scores—like any of those numbers mattered when she had just shattered my entire reality on that floor.People were gushing, whispering, staring. Malakai and Graven were probably somewhere in the crowd looking for me, and I didn't give a single, flying shit about Eve.None of them existed. They were just background noise to the storm she’d started in my blood.I turned and chased after her like a fucking madman."Lina!" I roared, slamming through the heavy exit doors, my voice echoing off the concrete corridors. "Lina, get the fuck back here!"Her words were screaming in my ears, a loop that I couldn't sh

  • My Stepbrother, My Damnation    I Think I'm... Wet

Lina’s POVThe world didn't just blur; it fucking shattered. One second I was leaning into Nikolai, my lips a mere heartbeat away from his.The next, a brutal, bruising hand clamped onto my waist, and I was violently ripped backward. My breath left me in a sharp, painful gasp as my back slammed hard against the unyielding wall of Riven’s chest. The sudden impact damn near rattled my teeth. But before I could even draw enough air to scream at him, the opening chords of the tango died out. The fucking violins screeched to life, unleashing a dark, aggressive crescendo that signaled the start of the mandatory dance.Panic, cold and sharp, pierced through the heavy fog in my brain."Nikolai!" I cried out, my voice sounding tight and desperate over the swelling music.I tried to tear my body out of Riven's iron grip, my eyes frantically scanning the crowd over his shoulder. But the timing was lethal. The moment the music peaked, the entire ballroom moved. A sudden, massive wave of stude

  • My Stepbrother, My Damnation    Tango Time

Lina’s POVNikolai's presence was exactly what I needed. For the first time all night, the weight of Riven Rykerthorne’s name completely evaporated from my mind.Or, at least, that was the lie I kept aggressively telling myself while downing a glass of champagne. I was definitely not trying not to think about the bastard. We were standing near the edge of the crowded ballroom, and Nikolai was currently using his height to lean over me, casually cracking another joke at my expense."I’m serious, Liv," he was saying, looking over my head to where Olivia stood."She used to wear those oversized tactical boots to her internship. I thought she was hiding weapons in them, but no. Just a complete lack of fashion sense.""Oh my god, I knew it!" Olivia squealed, throwing her head back in a loud, dramatic laugh."She does the exact same thing at the dorms! If it doesn't look like a disgruntled raccoon wore it first, Lina won't put it on her body!""Hey!" I protested, a furious, burning blush cr
