Brianna followed Dawson out of his office and into the chaos of the twentieth floor.

People everywhere. Phones ringing. Conversations overlapping. The normal noise of a company that didn't know its foundations were cracking.

Dawson walked fast. She matched his pace.

"Where are we going?"

"Meeting. Third floor. You're sitting in."

"I haven't eaten."

"Eat later."

They took the stairs. Dawson didn't slow down. Brianna's legs burned by the time they reached the third floor.

Brianna replaying every moment on that stage. Raven's voice. The crowd's whispers. The way her face burned with humiliation.By dawn, the anger had hardened into something else. Something cold and quiet. She dressed and went downstairs. The kitchen was empty. She made coffee and sat at the table, staring at nothing.Footsteps. Raven walked in, still in her robe, looking perfectly rested."Well, good morning, Cinderella. Enjoy the ball?"Brianna said nothing.Raven poured herself coffee. Leaned against the counter. "You know, I almost felt bad last night. Almost." She smiled. "Then I remembered you don't belong here, and the feeling passed."Still nothing."Cat got your tongue? Or did you finally realize your place?"Brianna set down her coffee. Looked directly at Raven."My place is wherever I choose to stand. Not where you put me."Raven's smile flickered. Then the kitchen door swung open.Dawson walked in. His eyes went from Brianna to Raven. He didn't need to ask what had happened.

The morning after the agent's visit, Brianna woke to chaos.Voices in the hallway. Running footsteps. Someone shouting orders. She pulled on a robe and cracked her door open.Staff rushed past with garment bags and shoeboxes. A woman carried an armload of silk dresses. Another balanced a tray of champagne flutes."What's happening?" Brianna asked a passing maid."The charity gala, signorina. Madame Raven's annual event. The whole house is preparing."Brianna closed the door and leaned against it.A gala. With Raven. This couldn't be good. She found Dawson in the kitchen, coffee in hand, looking annoyed."Raven's event?""Unfortunately.""Do I have to go?"He looked at her. "You want to stay here alone while half the staff is at the venue?""Good point."He almost smiled. "Just survive the night. Ignore her. Dance with someone nice. Eat the expensive food.""That's your advice? Eat the food?""It's good food."Despite everything, Brianna laughed. Just a little.Dawson's eyes softened.

Three days passed since Giovanni's death. The office was quieter now. People spoke in hushed tones. Eyes lingered on empty desks. No one said it aloud, but everyone felt it. Giovanni had known something. Giovanni had died. The message was clear.Brianna kept working. She dug through more records. Found more payments. More connections to Account 447B. The total climbed to fifty-seven million. Fifteen years of theft. But she didn't show anyone. Not Marco. Not Dawson. Not even her printed summaries. She kept it all on her laptop, password protected, hidden in folders no one would think to check.Because something had shifted inside her.It started small.A thought during her third night of bad sleep. What if she didn't share everything? What if she held something back? Not to betray Dawson. Not to help Eric. But to protect herself.Giovanni was dead because he knew too much. Because he was a loose end.She was becoming a loose end too.The more she found, the more dangerous she became. T

Morning came too fast.Brianna woke with the letter still on her mind. Her father's words. His offer. His love, waiting all these years for a daughter who never knew he existed. She pushed it aside. Focus on today. Focus on survival. At the office, she went straight to her desk. Marco had left a stack of new files overnight. Older records. Fifteen years back. She dove in.The numbers were messier the further back she went.Handwritten entries. Faded ink. Inconsistent formats. Someone had tried to hide the trail by making it hard to follow. But Brianna was patient. She worked through each file methodically. One by one. Looking for patterns. Looking for anything that matched what she'd already found.By noon, she had something.Another payment. Large amount. Destination listed only as "Offshore Account 447B." No client name. No contract number. She checked the date. Three days before a B series shipment. Same as always. She kept digging.More payments. Same account number. Same timing.

Sleep didn't come that night.Brianna lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, running through everything. Declan's words. Eric's messages. Dawson's face when he'd said she could choose.Stay or go. Partner or property. The letter sat hidden in her closet, waiting.By dawn, she gave up on rest. She showered, dressed, and headed to the office before anyone else was awake. The building was empty when she arrived. Just her and the hum of the servers. Perfect. She settled at her desk and pulled up Marco's files. The morning passed in a blur of numbers.Brianna worked methodically. Start with the oldest records. Work forward. Look for patterns. Look for anything that didn't belong. At first, everything looked normal. Routine transactions. Standard payments. Nothing suspicious. Then she hit year four.A payment. Large amount. Destination: offshore account. No client name attached. She checked the date. Three days before a B series shipment. She kept digging.Year five. Same pattern. Same offshor

  • My Stepbrother My Ruin   Chapter 25: The Puppet Master

Brianna stood in Dawson's doorway, the letter burning in her hands.Twenty-five years of secrets. Twenty-five years of lies. All contained in a single envelope.Dawson gently took it from her. Turned it over. Looked at the sealed flap."Have you read it?""No. My mother just gave it to me. I haven't had time."He handed it back. "Then read it. Know what you're protecting."Brianna looked at the envelope. At her name written in her mother's handwriting on the outside. For Brianna. When I'm gone."I can't. Not yet.""Why?""Because once I know, I can't unknow. And right now, I need to focus on surviving today."Dawson nodded. "Smart. Hide it somewhere safe. Somewhere no one will find it."She slipped the letter into her pocket. Pressed close to her chest."I need to get back to my room.""I'll walk you."They moved through the hallway together. Quiet. Careful. Listening for sounds that didn't belong. At her door, Dawson stopped."Keep this locked. Don't open for anyone but me.""Even my
