CASSIAN'S POV

She moves like she’s untouchable, like every step away from me is a reminder that I’ve already lost—and I hate it more than I’ve ever hated anything in my life.

The smell of rain clings to my lungs as I stalk up the short flight of stairs to the front door where Nina stood, hands folded to mask her shiver.

The door yawns open before I get there, and a middle aged man in a monkey jacket steps out, grinning from ear to ear when he sees me.

“Mr Cross, I'm Varney, and I'm the new bu

  • My Stepbrother's Lust    Anyone But Him

NINA’S POVCassian said a few minutes. I told myself that I could wait.We both lied. It’s been long enough for me to wonder what the hell is taking him so long. Sloane’s words still sit in my chest like tar, robbing me of every sane thought that crosses my mind.Of course I know I might never be first. I’ve heard that so many fucking times. Heck, I’ve even lived it, so yeah…I know. It’s not like mom was subtle in her undying love for Lucas, so much that she no more considered herself a mother after he left.I pace the room, telling myself that I should wash my hands but knowing that it’ll do nothing to relieve me.It’s been almost ten minutes. I glance at the clock in his bedroom and wonder just how much more time I’ll spend here before he comes back.Yet somehow, I feel grateful for his absence. This family…there’s something deeply wrong with them, and I’m getting the feeling that it all stems from his father, Alex. I knew I wasn’t just imagining things when his presence made m

  • My Stepbrother's Lust    Oh, Hell No

CASSIAN’S POVI should have known the moment Sloane asked me to set up her room that she wasn’t just asking for a favor. That was a test—an attempt to assess just how much of her husband is left in me, as if he was ever truly there.I can’t let her turn me into what she’s planning, especially not with Nina in my orbit. Absolutely not.The door to her bedroom shuts behind me, and I’m contemplating grabbing a drink before it hits me that Nina never followed me inside.I head downstairs, scanning the foyer and stopping when I hear a noise by the fireplace. Nina? My footsteps slow, and I listen for her voice, but all I hear is a low grunt that sounds more like my ex wife. I halt at the entrance, watching her red hair cascade down her shoulders as she speaks to the assistant who supposedly hates me.I try to remember her name, but it doesn’t stick. She reaches out to pat Sloane’s hair, and she lets her. Sloane Whitmore who would rather shave her head than let anyone other than her styl

  • My Stepbrother's Lust    The Wife

SLOANE’S POVCassian Cross is officially getting on my last fucking nerve.I glare at my phone in my hands, watching his name sit beneath yet another unanswered call as the car carries me deeper down this ridiculously long driveway. At this point, I’m starting to wonder if sending me here has been his grand plan all along.Dump his pregnant wife in the middle of fucking Scotland and hope she figures out how to survive alone.Except I’m not alone. Maybe he doesn’t even remember when he’s balls deep inside his—“Take a deep breath,” a manicured hand rests on my knee, “he’ll be here.”I turn to Cara, heat tight in my chest.“I would take a deep breath if this baby wasn’t stepping on my lungs, thank you for the reminder.”“Sloane.” she frowns.“I know. I’m sorry, I just—I don’t know what I’ll do if he doesn’t show up.”“You don’t have to think about that. Look,” she points out my window, “his car is parked right there.”I can’t help but roll my eyes.“Cassian will leave his cars parked al

  • My Stepbrother's Lust    Where We Can Breathe

NINA’S POV I don’t know who will get here first—Axel or Sloane—but I’m starting to fear that Cassian won’t even make it long enough to find out.I’ve been his shadow for hours, clinging to the hope that he is holding it together even as every passing minute steals a little more color from his face.He takes one glass of whiskey, then two, then grabs the bottle off the shelf.Maybe I shouldn’t have told him. I should have held on just a bit more until I talked to Axel, but the kidnapping allegation fell into our laps like a bomb.I tell myself not to overthink it. He’s better off knowing now, but I just can’t help it, not when the man I love is barely hanging on by a thread. What’s worse is knowing that this is all because of me. Maybe if I had kept my hands off him and respected mom’s marriage, this wouldn’t have happened.Even if it had, I wouldn’t be in the middle of it.Still, I know if I go back in time, I’ll still climb into this stranger's car and let him take me to his house.

  • My Stepbrother's Lust    If My World is a Lie

CASSIAN’S POVThe cruelest part about discovering a lie is realizing how many truths you built on top of it.Brother. The word sits between us like a loaded gun, and can’t I seem to look away from it. Fuck…I can’t even remember the last time I allowed myself to imagine having one. That word doesn’t belong remotely on a sentence with Axel—the blue eyed rebound who stood toe to toe with me in Lucas’s living room. The Axel who kissed my Nina. The Axel who is now my fucking brother. All this time, I thought the worst thing my father had hidden from me was a murder. All this time, I was so wrong.“Cassian,” a voice breaks through the thick of my skull. I blink. Nina’s grip on my wrist stays firm.“Baby…do you need to sit down?” Her lower lip quivers as she looks up at me, but I find myself lost in the hazel eyes of the woman I love and wonder just how many pieces of my life she’s been holding in her hands without me knowing.“I’m fine.” I say, even as I hear my voice crack. Gently, I

  • My Stepbrother's Lust    The Other Victim

CASSIAN’S POVI know that look on Nina’s face.I’ve seen it before—that raw, instinctive fear, the kind that sinks so deep into the body that it makes a person forget how to breathe—and it almost makes me take a step back.Almost.Her words hang in the air like a weight, and I find myself wishing that I can snap my fingers and take us back to last night, when secrets lay buried and trust existed. Fragile, bleeding trust…but it was there.“Who was on the phone?” I hear myself ask.She stands there, barely out of reach from me in my oversized shirt, sunlight catching the hazel in her eyes as her fingers twitch at my sides.“I want to tell you. I WILL tell you,” her voice stalls, “but we need to get out of here.”“What are you saying?”“I’m saying that we NEED TO LEAVE.”Frustration wells in my chest.“I know what you said, I’m asking why you—“My phone buzzes insistently in my hand, cutting me short.I glance down at the screen.Sloane. Fucking hell…“Don’t answer it!” Nina’s says sharp
