After the meeting is over, I went to Shawn’s office. He greets me with a smile but I was not in the mood for it. “Why do you insist on calling me by my name?” I asked before even saying ‘hi’. “Then what am I supposed to call you?” He asked coolly. “Ms. Jona is what you are supposed to call me. Don’t call me ‘Princi’ call me ‘Ms. Jona’. And if you have anything you want to talk to me about work then say it to Oliver like you used to.” I walked out before he could say a word. When I walked out of his office, I felt everybody’s eyes on me. It was too pressuring and uncomfortable. I truly miss the days when no one cared about me even if I was missing from the group. I miss the times when I would do my job in the background. I know I am saying this because I am upset, but I totally miss the time I worked for my former boss Mr. Custo, when he would ignore my presence in a meeting or wouldn’t even bother telling me to go to the meetings and would even forget my name to ask me for a cup of
The tall man in suit and sunglasses announced that I was from DC and that I came respecting my appointment with him. Edward Swift looked to my direction and inspected me with his eyes for a whole minuet without a word and looked back to the man that led me in and finally spoke “I was expecting a man not a woman.” I jumped in “I came here in the replacement of Mr. David from the IH department sir.” “Hmm… So what do you have to say.” he asked without putting the book down. As I stood there, I started to make the speech that was prepared. “Well _ I started _ first of all, our company is one of …” He cuts me off and finishes my sentence “The greatest company in the country…” Confused by the interruption I continued “Well we are known for delivering…” He cuts me off and finishes my sentence again “Delivering what is expected of you and more…” I started to lose my temper, yet I continued “Well if you invest in our company the…” Once again he finished my sentence for me “The profit th
Edwards’ eyes went wide “How did you know?” he asked probably thinking I am a mind reader. “My brother, Kevin: he used to write to me about a friend of his called Josh. I never knew he was this Swift.” I finally gave him an answer. We were both stunned. The world truly is a small place. I was so shocked, I was looking for something to have in common with him but this was not what I expected. His frown turned upside down. Considering that two of the most important peoples in our lives knew each other was mind blowing. His once pushed together eyebrows are now far apart. And I see his teeth. Pointing to the chair across from him he told me to take a seat. As soon as I sat down he started talking. “Look Ms….” He didn’t know my last name “Jona” I told him. He continued “Ms. Jona, I am happy to have met the sister of the man my son has written to me about, but my mind on investing in DC has not changed.” I cut him off “You have decided not to invest because you have judge DC through jus
As soon as he saw her he jumped out of his seat and hugged her. It was a twenty second long hug. I don’t think you hug your friend for an entire of twenty seconds. Something was up. I looked at her. She was beautiful. I can see her face because she was facing my direction and dad was sitting across from her. She had a long hair pulled back and a giant mole at the left side of her forehead that you can’t miss. She had a white dress going down her knee and a black bag as well. They were chatting and laughing, high-fiveing and giggling. It looked like they were on a date. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Was my dad cheating on my mom? Was he getting dressed to see this woman every day? I started putting things together that may or may not be there one by one. I remembered how my dad hasn’t been himself for a while now. The quite thanksgiving dinner we had, the uncelebrated valentine day of my parents, the going out early in the morning without telling us. This could only mean one th
“I am going to break up with him.” I told MC when she came over to visit. “What” she asked in a high pitched tone out of disbelief. “MC I am suffering at work in a way he can’t even imagine. No one can say a thing about him. Everyone has their focus on me. Lucy Chaw has been busy spreading rumors about me. It is hard to work in that kind of environment.” “Don’t jump in to this decision without considering about his feelings as well.” MC warned me. “You don’t get it. Every day I hear someone say something about me and I blame Shawn. I would always think to myself if I hadn’t met him in that elevator I would have been able to work peacefully. Not only am I hating my job’ but I am actually starting to despise him as well. When I told him I was sick he was really worried, he kept calling me over and over and I really love him for it. But if things at work don’t get better I am scared I would actually start to hate him. So before that happens I need to let him go.” MC looked at me for
After the game we rode the rollercoaster twice. We then went in to the haunted house. I was unstoppable at the competition earlier but in the haunted house, I definitely needed some protection as to the fact that it was filled with bloody monsters and screaming clowns. After the haunted house we went to grab something to eat. But instead of any fancy restaurant, we had some street food. After a long meal we ended with spiced hot-dog and picked a spot with a beautiful view of the city. After we finished our hot-dog’ we sat in silence for a while. “So are you all cheered up?” Shawn asked. “What do you mean?” I replied with a question. “You’ve been a little down lately.” I gave no answer. He continued “I know I should have asked you this a while ago but is everything ok?” “Umm…. It’s just this and that…. with family….. With work….” I answered hesitantly. “What happened with your family?” he asked. “Umm…. My dad…. I think my dad might be… He might be cheating…. on my mom.” I finish
I stayed the entire day in my room and I went down stairs for dinner. My mom was setting the table and dad was at the TV sitting next to his black bag. I took my place at the dining table and then my mom and finally my dad. It was too quite. The only sounds that you would hear are those of the sounds the plates and spoons made when they collide. I looked up at my dad and he was deep in thoughts. I shifted my eyes to my mom and she looked as exhausted as always. I felt bad for her which made it harder to approach the topic in front of her so I decided that it would be better to do it without her. So I waited until we were done with dinner. Since my mom was too tired I offered to do the dishes so she could go to bed early. I started doing the dished and dad went back to his seat and mom went to their bed room. As soon as I heard the master bedroom door closed I leaped over to where my dad was and stood over him with both my hands on my hip. He looked up at me and I down on him. He look
So, there we were; standing from across each other. He was in the elevator and I was outside. The emotions have filled the air and neither of us knew what to do. As soon as I saw him I thought to myself "Maybe I handled things the wrong way. If I haven't even thought about breaking up with him ... Or maybe I even regret the way I reacted to things. If I had held on to him and talked him out of it, we wouldn't be here looking at each other without saying a single word ... Maybe we both do.Neither of us moved a muscle until the elevator door closed in between us. I don't know how to feel right now. So I turned to the door leading to the stair way and slowly made my way to my office. Things were slow that morning. I did my job as I am supposed to and listened to some stories and rumors about me and just like that lunch hour came. As everyone was leaving to have their lunch one by one, I stayed behind. Oliver -like he always does- invited me to lunch. But since I wasn't in the mood to e
