Chapter 46: The High Tribunal

The Great Hall of the Council was a sea of fur and silver. Over five hundred Alphas from across the continent had gathered, their combined scent creating a heavy, suffocating pressure.

Killian walked in first, his every step echoing like a war drum. He wore his full ceremonial armor, his golden Alpha aura so intense that the guards at the door visibly flinched. I walked beside him, my hand tucked into his arm, my back as straight as a blade.

Between us walked the twins. Lucian was waving at the crowd, his golden light making him look like a little prince. Nyx was silent, clutching her black teddy bear, her violet eyes scanning the room with a chilling neutrality.

"Silence!" Silas roared from the high bench. He looked smug, holding a thick stack of ancient documents. "We are here to judge the legitimacy of the Blackwood lineage. Elena Vance, step forward."

I stepped into the center of the hall. The black rune on my chest throbbed with a cold warning, but I ignored it.

"You stand accused of concealing a corrupted bloodline," Silas sneered, his voice projecting to every corner of the hall. "Evidence shows your mother, Seraphina Vance, was a carrier of the Destroyer Gene—a traitor to the Royal Line. By Council law, any offspring of such a line are a threat to the public and must be neutralized."

A murmur of shock and fear rippled through the Alphas. Heads turned toward Nyx.

"My mother wasn't a traitor," I said, my voice clear and cutting through the noise. "She was a survivor. She fled because this Council tried to murder her for a power they couldn't control."

"Lies!" Silas slammed his hand on the desk. "She was a monster! And you are a parasite who has infected our King!"

Killian took a step forward, the floor beneath his boots cracking. "Choose your next words carefully, Silas. You are speaking to my Queen."

"She is no Queen!" Silas laughed, pulling out the stolen shadow-matter from Chapter 44—or what he thought was proof of her dark magic. "And the girl... she is already showing signs of the rot. Look at her eyes!"

Silas pointed a finger at Nyx.

Nyx didn't flinch. She looked at Silas, then at the small, wriggling shadow she had stolen from him a few days ago, which was still tucked in her palm.

"The mean man has a loud heart," Nyx whispered.

"Silence, child!" Silas yelled.

"I don't like it when you yell at my Mommy," Nyx said. She opened her tiny hand.

In that instant, Silas’s own shadow—the one still attached to his feet—suddenly detached itself. But it didn't just move; it turned around and slapped Silas across the face.

SLAP.

The sound echoed through the silent hall. Silas fell backward, his nose bleeding, his eyes wide with terror.

"How... how did you do that?!" Silas gasped, scrambling to his feet.

"I didn't," Nyx said, a tiny, dark smirk touching her lips. "Your shadow is just tired of you being a liar."

The hall erupted. Some Alphas were laughing, others were backing away in fear.

"This is proof!" Silas screamed, pointing at the chaos. "She is a monster! Killian, you must hand her over!"

"I will hand over nothing," Killian’s voice was like a glacier. He walked to the center of the hall and pulled out a golden scroll—the Original Royal Decree that he had found in the Archives with the Keeper's help.

"This decree states that the Destroyer Gene is not a curse, but the Original Guardian Spirit of the first Kings," Killian read, his voice booming. "It was the Council that branded it as 'corrupted' to maintain their own fragile power. My daughter isn't a threat to the pack. She is a threat to you, Silas."

I stepped forward, the black rune on my chest suddenly glowing with a blinding violet light. I didn't hide it anymore. I let the power flow, the 'Vessel' blood in my veins amplifying the shadows until they wrapped around me like a royal cape.

"You want a trial?" I asked the Council, my eyes glowing with a mix of blue and violet. "Then let's have one. But you won't be the judges. The blood in my veins—the blood you tried to purge—will decide who is fit to rule."

One by one, the Alphas in the room began to kneel. Not because of Killian’s aura, but because of the sheer, ancient authority radiating from the 'human' woman they had once despised.

Silas stood alone on the bench, his face pale, his shadow still trying to strangle him.

The Presentation was over. The Revolution had begun.

The journey back to the Blackwood territories should have been a victory march. We had the cure. We had survived the fall of a god. But as we reached the iron gates of our home, the air didn't smell like pine and safety. It smelled like betrayal and silver-smoke.The grand banners of the Blackwood Pack—the silver wolf on a field of midnight—had been torn down. In their place hung the cold, sterile flag of the Lycan Council."Silas," Killian growled, his hand gripping the steering wheel of the rugged SUV so hard the leather cracked. His body was still covered in bandages from the Solar Spire, but his eyes were burning with a lethal, golden hunger."They moved fast," Mord whispered from the backseat, his hand resting on his rusted blade. "They didn't wait for the news of Solas’s survival. They assumed you died in the collapse and declared the Forbidden Wing an 'unstable zone'."We rounded the final bend, and the palace came into view. It was surrounded. Hundreds of Council Enforcers in

Solas stood amidst the burning wreckage, the Tear of the Sun pulsing in his hand like a dying heart. The sheer intensity of the light began to melt the stones beneath his feet, turning the ruins into a lake of liquid gold."I am the Sun!" Solas screamed, his voice a distorted, metallic screech. "And you... you are nothing but a stain on my world!"He leveled the crystal at me, and a beam of pure, white-hot divinity erupted. It was enough to vaporize a city."Elena!" Killian roared, launching himself forward to take the blow. But I didn't move. I didn't hide.I stepped into the light. As the beam hit my chest, the Mark of the Devourer didn't burn. It opened. My skin didn't char; it turned into a swirling vortex of violet-black smoke. I felt the agonizing heat enter my veins, but instead of destroying me, it found a bottomless hunger waiting for it.I wasn't just holding the light. I was drinking it."Impossible!" Solas’s remaining eye widened in horror. "That is the fire of creation! Y

The world didn't end with a bang; it ended with the suffocating silence of falling ash.The Golden Spire, once a needle of light piercing the heavens, was now a jagged mountain of broken glass and twisted metal strewn across the Forbidden Peak. The air was thick with the smell of scorched stone and the fading hum of dying magic.Killian Blackwood clawed his way out of a pile of white-gold rubble. His tunic was gone, his chest covered in a map of bleeding shadow-scars and burns. He didn't feel the pain. His Alpha heart was beating with a single, frantic rhythm: Find them. Find them. Find them."ELENA!" he roared, the sound tearing through the settling dust. "LUCIAN! NYX!"Silence."If you have taken them from me," Killian whispered to the ruins, his claws extending until they cracked the stone beneath his hands, "I will not just kill you, Solas. I will erase your entire lineage from history."A faint, violet shimmer caught his eye near the tilted base of the central tower. It wasn't th

The air inside the Void-Chamber was thick with the scent of ozone and ancient, stagnant magic. Solas, the Solar King, stood before the massive vortex of solidified darkness, his white-gold armor reflecting the unnatural swirl of the abyss. He looked like a god, but his eyes—wide and hungry—betrayed the dying mortal underneath."Open it, child," Solas commanded, his voice vibrating with a terrifying desperation. He shoved Lucian toward the swirling vortex. "Your light is the key. Pierce the veil, and I will make you a prince of a world that never knows night. You will be more than a Blackwood; you will be the Sun itself."Lucian stood before the wall of absolute shadow. He looked so small in that cavernous room, his tiny hands trembling. The heat from the Spire's core was making his golden hair damp with sweat. He looked back at Solas, then closed his eyes, searching for that one thread of warmth that never failed him.“Now, Lionheart!” Killian’s voice erupted in his mind, a primal roa

"You look surprised, Elena," my sister purred, swirling a cup of golden liquid that smelled of honey and sunlight. "Did you think the Great King Solas was a saint? Did you think he built this empire of light on prayers and sunshine?"I gripped the edges of the golden divan, my breath coming in shallow rasps. "He hates shadows. He called me an abomination. Why are you here?""Because Solas is a hypocrite," she laughed, her green eyes flashing. "He is dying, Elena. Just like you. The pure light he commands is eating him alive. He needs the Tear of the Sun to stabilize his own power, just as you need it to save your humanity."My heart skipped a beat. "He can't find it himself?""The crystal is hidden in the Void-Chamber, a place where light cannot enter. He needs a Vessel. He needs someone who can touch the shadows without being consumed instantly. He needs... us.""He’s using you," I spat."We are using each other," she corrected, standing up and walking toward the glass wall. "He give

The border was no longer silent. The air crackled with the sound of burning ozone as more Sun Guards descended, their light-discs illuminating the canyon like a dozen miniature suns.Killian stood over the fallen guard, his claws dripping with a mixture of blood and molten brass. His golden eyes were fixed on the ridge above, where a single, blinding figure stood, radiating a heat that made the very air tremble."Enough!" a voice boomed—not with vocal cords, but with the resonance of a thousand trumpets. The guards immediately froze, dropping to one knee. The figure descended slowly. He wasn't on a disc; he was walking on a staircase of solid, crystallized light.
