6 Was He Flirting With Me?

Faye's POV

I picked up my phone and saw that it was a call from Headmistress Annie. I waved to the others, indicating that I was going to take the call.

"Good evening, Annie!"

I answered the phone and started walking towards the coconut grove in the distance.

"Good evening, dear. I hope I'm not interrupting your family reunion," Annie always sounded so considerate.

"Not at all, Annie. The meeting with my mom and other family members went very smoothly. They... really like me," except for Liam, I thought.

Annie's voice raised on the other end. "That's wonderful! I was so worried because I hadn't heard from you all day. I couldn't help but call you now."

I was deeply touched. "I'm sorry, Annie, for making you worry. Everything is fine! I was just too excited and forgot to call you."

"Oh, my child, it's okay. As long as you're fine. So, what are your plans now?"

I explained Louis' proposal from dinner earlier to Annie. "I'm going to study at the university here in the future. My mom's husband said he would arrange it for me."

"That's great! But I'm afraid we won't be able to see each other often..."

Annie's voice lowered again, and I felt a pang of sadness.

"I understand, but you've watched us grow up, Annie. I'll miss..."

"Don't cry, child. Your 18th birthday is next month, remember? I told you I wouldn't miss any important milestones in your life."

"I remember! You mean you're coming to Santan State for my birthday?"

I had forgotten about it, but this was great news. I will get to see Annie again!

"Sure! The coming-of-age ceremony is one of the most important rituals for werewolves. I want to witness you finding your mate."

Annie teased. When I thought about my future mate, I suddenly felt a bit embarrassed.

"Oh, Annie..."

"What's wrong? Don't you want me to come?"

"Of course not! You have to come!"

Annie and I made plans for her to visit the Silver Moon pack on my 18th birthday. After hanging up the phone, I couldn't help but start daydreaming about that day, including meeting my fated mate.

I hope I'll have a fated mate.

For some reason, when I used to fantasize about a fated mate, I didn't have a specific image in mind. But now, the faces of the twin brothers flashed before my eyes.

I shook my head, trying to dismiss this absurd thought. But wait... the twin brothers should still be unmated, and do twin brothers usually share the same mate or have two separate mates?

The next moment, one of the faces actually appeared in front of me.

"Hey, Faye!"

The person's eyes sparkled in the dim firelight.

"Ah!!" I screamed involuntarily, "Who's there?"

Leander emerged from the shadows of the torches. "It's me, Leander. Don't be scared."

I patted my chest, "OMG, thank goodness it's you. But weren't you going to find your girlfriend Taylor?"

"She's my EX-girlfriend!" Leander emphasized loudly.

I laughed, "Okay, okay. How did you handle it?"

Leander put his hands in his shorts pockets, and we walked side by side towards the deeper part of the coconut grove. "I made things clear with Taylor, but she left crying."

I nodded. "No girl wants to break up with a celebrity like you."

"Yeah, but some of her actions were a bit over the top. I always felt like she didn't love me, but my status and fame," Leander added.

"What about you? Do you like Taylor's soul, Mr. Ex-Boyfriend with 14 ex-girlfriends?" I thought to myself but didn't say it out loud.

"What about you? Do you think the same way?" Leander suddenly asked.

I was lost in thought, and Leander's question caught me off guard. "What... what do you mean?" I stammered nervously.

Somewhere along the line, we had gotten quite close, close enough for me to feel the slight friction of his muscular arm against mine as we walked together. I couldn't help but rub my own forearm.

Leander moved closer to me again. "What I mean is, if it were you, would you also not want to break up with me?"

"What? No! I..."

I was taken aback by Leander's words. It sounded like he was flirting with me. I couldn't believe my ears, especially considering we were practically siblings (even though not by blood)!

"I mean, you don't get easily scared, do you?"

"Haha!" Leander burst into laughter.

I stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to say. Leander, on the other hand, took another step closer to me, and as our bodies almost touched, his words, and the warmth from his breath on my ear, sent shivers down my spine.

I struggled to compose myself and cautiously replied, "No, I'm not easily scared."

"That's good," Leander said, still keeping the flirtatious tone, "because you're cute when you get scared, just like a little rabbit."

"I..." I was at a loss for words and took another step back, feeling like a trapped monkey in this situation.

"Haha!" Leander laughed heartily, and I remained standing there, feeling increasingly awkward. Suddenly, Leander spoke again.

"Do you know, when I first saw you, you looked just as startled as a rabbit."

"You've had too much to drink!" I blurted out.

In reality, Leander was perfectly sober. "I haven't had any alcohol tonight."

"Well, what I meant was..."

Leander interrupted me, "What I meant was, you're as cute as a rabbit, easily startled, don't you think?"

Perhaps he had noticed my nervousness and my half-hearted resistance. He changed his tone again, making the atmosphere between us less ambiguous. I let out a sigh of relief and discreetly smoothed out the wrinkles on my dress, created earlier.

I can't help but think back to when Andrew was surrounded by a group of girls. Oh God! Why do men always do this? I have to admit, though, that when Leander gets close to me, the heat of his words squirts in my ears, I can't help but curl my neck and feel my body shudder and my heart skip a beat.

"I'm not," I replied, trying to sound confident.

“Ha Ha!” Leander laughs. “Then you admit you're cute as a bunny.”

“I. . .”

"Leander! Where are you?" Suddenly, Liam's voice came from nearby.

My heart felt like it had been lifted into the air because I was nervous about being around Liam.

"Hey, bro, I'm here with Faye."

Liam walked toward us, his tall figure appearing god-like in the firelight.

"Hi," I greeted weakly, lifting my head.

Surprisingly, Liam didn't even glance at me, but instead asked Leander sternly, "What are you doing here?"

"I came to find Faye."

"Are you two close?" I couldn't be sure, but Liam's voice seemed even colder now, and I felt a chill.

I couldn't help hugging my arms.

“Well...” Leander also sensed his brother's unhappiness and replied uncertainly, “Of course, we're not very close, but we've met before. I've helped her before.”

“Yes! Leander...” I said under pressure.

“Leander, mom and dad are looking for you. They want you back!” Liam didn't look at me at all.

The air froze. I could feel it. I silently went back a few steps, and opened up the distance with them.

Leander and Liam stared at each other for a while, then looked back and forth between Liam and me, then finally gave in. “Faye, I'm gonna go.”

“Then I'll go too. Wait for me!” I'm going to run.

Liam grabbed me. “Stop!”

Moon goddess! His palms were like soldering irons, almost burning my skin!

Leander looks back at me but doesn't stop. He gave me a“Good luck” look.

“Let go of me!” I struggled, but I couldn't shake Liam's hand. “What are you doing? ! I'm going to tell mom that you don't like me and that you're bullying me!”

Liam tugged me deeper into the coconut grove, and I stumbled after him, feeling more and more flustered, my feet as limp as cotton.

“You tell her. I'll tell mom...” Liam turns to me and yells. “Her daughter flirts with her stepbrother as soon as she gets here!”

What?!

The next second, I felt the thing in front of me spinning. I was pinned down by Liam on the coconut tree trunk. Instead of the pain and friction I expected, Liam put his left hand on my back, but his right hand held me like a handcuff.

“You don't know what you're talking about! I wasn't flirting with Leander!” I didn't give up, even though it seemed futile.

Liam came up to me, his blue eyes narrowing like dangerous predators, like two flames dancing in his eyes, and I saw my frightened face.

My eyes flustered across Liam's face, searching for a foothold. And then I noticed his mouth, the tight line, the pink lips...

I. . . I swallowed saliva twice without thinking.

“You better be. Leander will find his fated mate soon, and before and after, keep your distance!” Said Liam.

“You don't have to tell me! I know what a fated mate is! I will find my own fated mate when I become an adult next month, so please stay away from me!”

I didn't want to throw in the towel and shouted back at Liam with all my strength.

At the same time, the image of the twin being my fated mate flashed through my mind again. But now I can only ignore it.

When I was done, I deflated like a deflated balloon, and I shivered. The air is getting cooler and cooler.

Amazingly, instead of continuing to lecture me, Liam fell silent.

I was so embarrassed that I didn't know what to do, so I hugged myself harder, and now I kind of regret coming out in a halter dress. The beach without sunshine is really cold.

“You'll know.”

Silent Liam blurted out.

“What? !” I was fed up with his indifference and riddles, and today was only my first day in the Silver Moon Pack!

Liam didn't answer me, and I watched in amazement as he started to take off his coat in front of me.

“Put it on!”

He threw his linen suit jacket at me and threw it in my face.

I put his clothes on my body in a hurry. God, I'm cold! Liam's body heat and his smell are still on his clothes. I stood there and stared at Liam, who was as fit as a Leander... He's getting further and further away from my sight...
