Ariana’s POV.

Stepping out of the car, I gaped at the massive mansion in front of me with bewilderment. I had always known that while I lived in a ghetto in the Bronx with my grandmother, my father and twin sister who knew nothing of my existence until now, lived here in Beverly Hills.

But I didn’t expect this place to look even more beautiful in reality.

“Please, follow me, miss,” a middle-aged man said.

I followed him, looking around like a lost puppy. I still couldn’t believe that I was finally here, and I couldn’t wait to meet my sister, Blair. All my life, I had watched Blair from afar on the television. She was often regarded as our father’s only child.

She was always on the news for one philanthropic activity or the other. I was so proud of her, and always wished that I could talk to her. But mama and grandma had always warned me never to let anyone know that I was the daughter of the billionaire, Thomas Sinclair.

In the school I went to, they would even laugh at me because of how ridiculous it sounded. Though we were twins, we had a resemblance that could only be noticed if it was pointed out that we were siblings. After mama’s sudden passing two days after my sixteenth birthday this year, my father had suddenly found me and demanded that I lived with him.

I didn’t believe that he coincidentally found me after mama’s death, but I would save the question for when I finally met him.

Yeah, that’s right. He didn’t even come for me himself. He had sent some men dressed in black Italian suits to “take me home.” Grandmama was angry and tried to stop them, but they had said they had a lawsuit ready because mama hid me from my father for sixteen years.

I had told the men to tell my father to give me time, and here I was now. Inside the house, I felt so out of place. The lounge was bigger than my gran’s entire house, and it made me feel so small.

The man came back to the lounge, surprise etched on his face when he saw that I was standing in the lounge.

“Please, follow me,” he said.

I followed him, feeling a bit guilty that he was carrying my luggage. He opened a pink door and looked at me with a smile.

“This is your room, Miss Ariana.”

I gasped and walked in, forgetting that he was there for a minute. If I thought the lounge was big, this room was even bigger.

“You may get dressed and come down for lunch.”

“Thank you, Mr…”

“Porter.”

“Thank you, Mr. Porter. But where is everyone?”

“Miss Blair is not back from school yet, Mr. Sinclair will be back tonight, and the housekeeper and other staff members are on a leave as per Miss Blair’s request.”

My eyes shone with excitement at the mention of Blair. She must be such a sweet soul to grant the staff a leave.

“May I ask who you are?” my brows scrunched up inquisitively.

“I’m the butler.”

Oh, that made sense. He bowed his head and left. I locked the door instantly to bask in the luxurious room. Everything was so beautiful. From the posh décor to the elegant marble floors, to the quality furniture. I just couldn’t believe that I was to live here.

I had a warm bath and came downstairs for lunch. Since the staff was on leave, I wondered who would make lunch. However, when I got there, the table was already set. I looked around, wondering who did it, and why there was so much food.

This must be how rich people dine.

I sat with a huff and stared at the empty seats in front of me wistfully. I missed my family back home. Gran would have made a wonderful meal, while mama would make sure I ate. Then they would ask how my day went, followed by a night of laughter.

A middle-aged woman appeared and opened the dish in front of me. I stared at her in surprise.

“Mr. Porter told me that Blair granted staff a leave.”

At the mention of Blair’s name, the woman’s face turned pale.

“Please, enjoy your meal,” she squeaked and ran off.

“Wait…”

But she was already gone before I could complete my statement. Now, things were getting really strange. It seemed like they were either hosting a surprise for me, or something fishy was going on; and I just hoped that it wasn’t the latter.

I looked at the food in front of me and lost my appetite immediately. I picked up the cutlery and proceeded to cut into the strange looking fish. But before I could bring the food to my mouth, I heard a voice behind me.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

I looked back to see Blair. Immediately, the fork fell from my hand as my emotions flew all over the place. I had expected this feeling of happiness when I finally saw my sister. What I didn’t expect was to get teary-eyed.

She gasped when she saw my face. We really looked alike, despite not being identical. I stood up from my seat and walked up to her. With a sob, I wrapped my hands around her and enveloped her in a hug.

Her shoulders froze, but I didn’t mind. She was probably as overwhelmed as I was, so I would give her time to adjust to meeting me. But to my surprise, she pushed me away with a shocking force.

“Ew!” she cried. “What is this?”

I smiled at her. “Blair, it’s me, Ariana. Haven’t you heard about me yet?”

She didn’t respond to me, so I reached out to hold her shoulder. But she flinched violently.

“Ew! Get your ghetto hands off me!”

I gasped and backed away from her.

Did she just call me ghetto?

Ariana’s pov“Blair, what do you think you are doing?” Gwen asked, her face turning as pale as a sheet of paper.Blair gave her a comical smile. “What? Did I ask the wrong question? Or did you think we forgot about it?”Daniel’s smile faltered. He quickly gathered himself together and raised a brow.“I don’t understand what you’re talking about, Blair.”“Oh, you understand perfectly,” she said, leaning forward. “We both know exactly what I’m talking about, Mr. Daniel.”The atmosphere around the table turned tense.“We both know how you had a hand in my sister’s kidnapping. All of us know that.” She glanced around the table. “Well, all of us except my father, maybe. He doesn’t seem to believe that his precious wife’s brother would do a thing like that.”“Blair, that’s enough!” my father thundered. He looked horrified. Even I was surprised. One could never truly predict Blair. One moment she was acting sweet and charming with Daniel, and the next moment she was attacking him at gunpoin

Ariana’s povMy feet became cold instantly as the man walked into our home. What was even worse was that my father stood up to give him a handshake.“Welcome back, Daniel,” he said. “How was your trip?”“It was perfect,” Daniel replied.“Please, have a seat,” my father said. The man held Gwen’s hand and beamed at her. I was uncomfortable and cautious of him. Since they had access to our house, anything could be possible. And Father believed Gwen over me, so I knew that this family was such a joke.Blair looked at me and then at the man. She could tell that something was wrong, but she didn’t say anything. After offering him a smile, Gwen asked, “And how was your trip?”“Wonderful,” Daniel replied smoothly. Finally, his eyes met mine. But I saw no trace of recognition at all. Instead, he looked like it was the most normal thing in the world to sit at the table with the family of a girl whose kidnapping he had been involved in.I stabbed my food with my fork in annoyance. If I had my wa

Ariana’s povIt was the fifth day now, and we girls were not as mad at each other as we were in the first place. It seemed like Blair and I had come to an unspoken agreement that we could use the opportunity of being locked together in the room to plan our attack against Gwen rather than fight all the time.Surprisingly, it seemed to be working just fine. In fact, we were bonding more than we thought we ever could. Despite remembering everything Blair had said about our mother and how she had tried to shame my friends, I didn’t really mind.I just wanted us to get along well. I didn’t know what was going on in her own mind, but I thought that she was enjoying our little brainstorming moments when we would try to bring Gwen down. We had tried to come up with a plan several times to no avail.Blair would say something that would make a lot of sense, but it would only prove futile because it would not work against Gwen. So we were frustrated. We had almost given up on it when the opportu

Ariana’s pov“Let go of my hair dryer, Blair!” I yelled.“No!” she screamed as she pulled it from me.But I refused to give in. I held it even tighter. This stupid little fight was all because I came out of the bathroom and started to blow-dry my hair and she didn’t want it. Now, Blair usually did that every day for at least an hour, and I didn’t complain. But when I did it for about twenty minutes or fifteen minutes, she got mad at me.Today, I hadn’t even done it for five minutes when she flared up and asked me to stop. And I couldn’t even stop blow-drying my hair because I hated wet hair. I snatched the dryer away from her, and she leaped at me, trying to take it from me.I turned it on and flashed it at her, blow-drying her face. She screamed as she tried to pull at my hair to no avail. I made sure that she felt the heat of the dryer in her face. It was satisfying to see her struggle like that.“Oh my God, Ariana, stop it!” she yelled at me.I finally turned off the hair dryer, th

Ariana's povWe were both shocked at that. This was not the right way to handle this, in my opinion, because Blair and I would tear each other apart if we should share the same room.I wanted to tell her that, but I knew that it was pointless. It would even make her want to do that more.“I am not sharing a room with her,” Blair said coldly.“Me neither,” I said. “I don’t wish to share a room with Blair. It’s not what I want.”“At this point,” Gwen said, “I don’t care about what you both want. What I care about now is for peace to reign between you both. You have to learn to love each other.”“And letting us share a room does not fix that,” Blair said. And for once that day, I agreed with her.“She’s right,” I said. “We are not sharing a room.”“You both will have to share the room eventually,” Father intervened. “No matter what you say, you’re not escaping the punishment that she has given to you. It’s only right for me to become stricter towards you both now, since you do not have t

Ariana's povWe were sitting in the principal’s office. My father was here. And that meant trouble. He was speaking in hushed tones with the principal. And I was looking down at my feet, while Blair was staring at them both defiantly.“Miss Ariana, you have always been in my office for one issue or the other,” the principal said.I nearly groaned. This wasn’t going to work in my favor, since the man believed me to be such a troublemaker. And there was nothing I could say to prove that I was no such person.“While they are both outstanding,” the principal continued, “Miss Blair does not cause any trouble in school.”My father scoffed, and I nearly laughed. It was obvious that he knew the kind of person Blair was and that something must have happened.“Since your father is here,” the principal told us, “I’ll consider not punishing you so that…”“No.” My father held up a hand. “They have both committed a crime, and they should be punished according to the laws of the school. Don’t show t
