MY VAMPIRE BOSS IS SWEET ON ME

Posy Marin had a rule about Mondays.

No matter how much work she had, how tired she was, or how badly she wanted to crawl back into bed, she always made time for breakfast with her family.

This morning, however, she was running late.

“Posy, your toast is getting cold!”

“I know, Mum! I'm coming!”

“That's what you said five minutes ago!”

Posy hurried down the stairs, one hand holding her handbag and the other trying to tie the ribbon around her pink hair. She reached the kitchen just as her younger brother, Jamie, took the last piece of toast from the plate.

She stared at him.

Jamie stared back.

“Good morning, wonderful sister,” he said, taking a bite.

“Jamie, that was my toast.”

“You weren't here.”

“I was tying my hair!”

“Then I saved you the trouble of having to eat it.”

Their mother, Margaret, shook her head as she placed a fresh piece of toast on a plate.

“Both of you, please. I would like to finish one breakfast without having to settle a dispute.”

Posy kissed her mother's cheek and slipped into her chair.

“Thank you, Mum. You're the only person in this house who understands me.”

“Really?” Jamie asked. “Who helped you look for your missing shoes last week?”

“You hid them under the sofa.”

“You left them under the sofa.”

“Because someone moved them!”

Margaret set a cup of tea in front of Posy.

“Eat before you miss your bus.”

Posy took a large bite of toast.

Their house was small, with two bedrooms upstairs and a sitting room that always seemed to collect more laundry than furniture. The kitchen table had a loose leg, the refrigerator made a strange humming sound at night, and the curtains in Posy's room had faded from pink to something closer to peach.

It wasn't luxurious, but it was home.

Her father, Daniel, had died when she was sixteen. Since then, Margaret had worked long hours as a receptionist at a neighborhood medical clinic, while Posy helped whenever she could. Jamie was still in school, and Posy had spent the last two years juggling classes, temporary jobs, and applications for anything that might offer a stable future.

The internship at Moonberry & Co. was the first opportunity that had made her feel as though all those efforts might finally lead somewhere.

Her mother watched her take another bite.

“How is the new job going?”

“Really well! I'm learning so much, and everyone has been nice to me. The executive floor is a little intimidating, but I'm getting used to it.”

“And your boss?”

Posy nearly swallowed her toast the wrong way.

“What about him?”

Margaret raised an eyebrow.

“I asked how your boss was.”

“Oh. He's fine. Very professional. Very organized. Very particular about schedules.”

Jamie leaned across the table.

“Is he handsome?”

“JAMIE!”

Margaret laughed into her teacup.

“What? I'm asking a reasonable question. She spends half her evenings at the office. I should know whether her boss is worth all that overtime.”

“I'm not spending my evenings at the office because he's handsome!”

The words came out too quickly.

Jamie slowly grinned.

Posy pointed her toast at him. “You are not allowed to speak for the rest of breakfast.”

“Does that mean he's handsome?”

She stood up, grabbed her handbag, and kissed her mother goodbye.

“I'm leaving before I get a headache.”

Margaret followed her to the door.

“Don't forget to call me when you finish work. And Posy?”

“Yes, Mum?”

“I'm proud of you. Whatever happens with this internship, don't forget how hard you've worked to get there.”

Posy wrapped her arms around her mother.

“I won't.”

Then she hurried outside, carrying the warmth of home with her.

She had no idea that the day ahead would give her something else to think about.

***

At 8:12 that evening, Posy arrived at Moonberry & Co. with a small paper bag tucked inside her handbag.

She had bought strawberry candies for her family on the way home the previous evening, and her mother had insisted on packing a few homemade biscuits for her to take to work.

Posy had promised herself she would share them with Evelyn.

She had also promised herself that she would stop thinking about Rafe Fitzgerald's smile.

One of those promises seemed considerably more difficult than the other.

“Good evening, Posy,” Evelyn greeted her. “You're right on time.”

“I almost wasn't. My brother decided that stealing my breakfast was a perfectly acceptable way to begin the day.”

Evelyn laughed. “Was it at least good breakfast?”

“It was my breakfast, which makes the theft particularly tragic.”

“I'll try to remember that if anyone steals your lunch.”

Posy placed the paper bag on Evelyn's desk.

“My mum made biscuits. Would you like some?”

“That is very kind of her.”

Evelyn took one and thanked her before returning to her computer.

Posy settled at her workstation and began reviewing the assignments waiting for her. She was halfway through a product report when she noticed a small package near her keyboard.

It hadn't been there when she arrived.

The box was pale pink, shaped like a heart, and tied with a crimson ribbon. No delivery slip or name accompanied it.

Posy glanced towards Evelyn.

“Did someone leave this here?”

Evelyn looked up.

“What is it?”

“I was hoping you knew.”

Posy lifted the box carefully. It was light, and something inside shifted when she moved it.

A small envelope had been tucked beneath the ribbon.

Her name was written across the front.

**For Posy.**

She opened the envelope.

Inside was a single card bearing a short message.

*Some doors open by accident. Others open because someone has been waiting for you to find them.*

Beneath the sentence was a tiny drawing of a crescent moon.

Posy read it twice.

“That's strange.”

Evelyn came around the desk to look.

“Did you order anything?”

“No. And I don't know anyone who sends me mysterious heart-shaped packages.”

“Perhaps someone in Marketing is playing a joke.”

“Perhaps,” Posy said, although she wasn't convinced.

She carefully lifted the lid.

Inside lay six strawberry chocolates arranged in a circle. Each one had a delicate crimson crescent stamped into its surface.

Posy stopped moving.

She had seen that symbol before.

Not on chocolate.

On the unmarked document she'd noticed during her first week, the one connected to the restricted archives.

She lowered the lid.

“Evelyn, do you know what this symbol means?”

Evelyn examined the box, and her expression became more serious.

“I've seen it on some of the older company materials, but I couldn't tell you what it represents. Where did you see it?”

“On a document I was helping organize. It was marked for the executive archives.”

“Then I suggest you leave the chocolates untouched until Mr. Fitzgerald has seen them.”

Posy nodded.

“I was thinking the same thing.”

She placed the box on her desk and sent Rafe a message explaining what had arrived.

His response came less than a minute later.

**Bring the box to my office, please.**

Posy picked it up.

“I'm going to see Mr. Fitzgerald. I'll be back shortly.”

Evelyn nodded, but her gaze remained on the little envelope.

For once, she had no teasing remark to offer.

***

Rafe was standing beside the windows when Posy entered his office.

That evening, he wore a deep blue shirt beneath a tailored burgundy jacket. His sleeves were buttoned neatly at his wrists, and a slim silver watch rested against one cuff.

He turned when she approached.

“You received the package?”

“Yes. It was waiting on my desk when I arrived.”

She placed the box in front of him and handed him the card.

Rafe read the message.

His expression didn't change, but his fingers remained still against the paper.

“Did anyone tell you who delivered it?”

“No. Evelyn didn't see anyone leave it, and there wasn't a delivery slip. It was simply there.”

“Did you eat any of the chocolates?”

“No. They have the same crescent symbol I saw on that restricted document, so I thought you should look at them first.”

He raised his eyes to hers.

“You did the right thing.”

“I'm glad. Although, I have to admit, it feels a little unfair to receive a box of chocolates and then be told not to eat them.”

The corner of his mouth lifted.

“I'll see that you're compensated for your sacrifice.”

“Will the compensation also be chocolate?”

“I had something more generous in mind.”

Posy looked at him expectantly.

“Two chocolates?”

“Three.”

She smiled. “I think we can reach an agreement.”

Rafe returned his attention to the box.

“Posy, I need you to tell me exactly where you found it and whether anyone approached your desk before you arrived.”

She explained everything she could remember, including the time she entered the office and the fact that Evelyn hadn't noticed the package earlier.

He listened without interrupting.

When she finished, he closed the box.

“Thank you. You can return to your work. I'll have someone examine this.”

“Is everything all right?”

“Yes.”

She waited.

Rafe looked at her again.

“I don't want you worrying about something you haven't caused, Posy. If anything unusual happens again, tell Evelyn or me immediately. Don't investigate it yourself.”

“I won't go looking for trouble,” she promised. “But if trouble leaves a mysterious box on my desk, I reserve the right to be curious about it.”

“Curiosity is not the problem. Wandering into restricted areas because of it might be.”

Posy gave him an innocent smile.

“That happened only once.”

“Once was enough to make an impression.”

She laughed, and for a moment the tension in the room eased.

Rafe reached for the box.

“Go and finish your report. I'll speak with you tomorrow.”

“All right. Good night, Mr. Fitzgerald.”

“Good night, Posy.”

She reached the door before he called her name again.

“Posy?”

She turned.

“Your mother makes good biscuits.”

She stared at him.

“How did you know I brought biscuits?”

“Evelyn mentioned them when she came in earlier.”

“Oh.” Posy smiled. “I'll bring more next time, then.”

“I would appreciate that.”

She left the office without noticing the way his gaze followed her to the door.

Rafe waited until she was gone before opening the box again.

The crescent symbol was unmistakable.

Someone had found a way to place an old mark directly in front of the one human employee who had no business recognizing it.

And someone wanted him to know.

***

Across the city, inside the Fitzgerald family residence, a different conversation was taking place.

The mansion stood behind tall iron gates, surrounded by carefully maintained gardens and old trees. Its rooms were filled with antique furniture, portraits of ancestors, and objects that had been passed down through generations.

In the private dining room, Lord Alistair Fitzgerald sat at the head of a long table, reading a report.

His wife, Lady Vivienne, stood near the fireplace in a sapphire-blue gown, listening to a man who had just entered the room.

“Your son has received another warning,” the man said.

Alistair placed the report on the table.

“What kind of warning?”

“A package was delivered to Moonberry & Co. It contained chocolates marked with the old crescent.”

Vivienne turned from the fireplace.

“Who received it?”

“A junior employee. A human intern named Posy Marin.”

Silence settled over the room.

Alistair's eyes narrowed.

“Why was a human employee given anything bearing that mark?”

“We don't know. The package was left without a delivery record.”

Vivienne approached the table.

“What else do we know about the girl?”

“She was hired recently and assigned to Executive Operations. Her employment file is ordinary, but there are a few details that warrant further examination.”

“Such as?”

“The circumstances surrounding her selection.”

Alistair rose.

“Then examine them. Quietly. I will not have rumors spreading through the company before we understand what is happening.”

Vivienne looked at the report.

“Does Rafe know?”

“He has the package.”

“Then he will understand what it means.”

Alistair's expression hardened.

“Understanding is not the same as obeying.”

Vivienne studied her husband.

“You cannot expect him to accept every decision the elders make simply because they made it before he was born.”

“The pact has preserved our family for generations.”

“And it has required generations of people to surrender choices they should have been allowed to make.”

Alistair turned towards her.

“This is not the time to question our obligations.”

“Perhaps that is precisely why it is time.”

For a moment, neither spoke.

Then Alistair looked back at the report.

“Find out who sent the package. I want answers before the next council meeting.”

The man bowed and withdrew.

Vivienne remained beside the table.

“Alistair, if this girl has become involved in something she doesn't understand, she must be protected.”

“And if her presence threatens everything our family has spent centuries preserving?”

“Then we should discover the truth before deciding what she is worth.”

Alistair said nothing.

Vivienne looked towards the tall windows, where the night had settled over the gardens.

Somewhere in the city, her son was standing at the beginning of a path that might change his future.

She only hoped he would be allowed to choose where it led.

***

Later that night, Rafe stood alone in his office with the heart-shaped box open on his desk.

He had examined the chocolates, the envelope, and the ribbon. Nothing revealed who had sent them.

But the crescent symbol had appeared in places where it should never have been seen.

He took out his phone and called Evelyn.

“Find out who had access to the executive floor before Posy arrived. Check the visitor records and the security footage. I want the results sent directly to me.”

“Understood. Is there anything else?”

“Yes. Make sure Posy isn't assigned to the restricted archives or any projects connected to the old records until I say otherwise.”

“I'll take care of it.”

He ended the call and looked once more at the card.

*Some doors open by accident. Others open because someone has been waiting for you to find them.*

A knock sounded at his office door.

Rafe looked up.

Posy stood in the doorway, holding a folder against her chest.

“Sorry to interrupt. I finished the report, and I wanted to make sure you received the updated version before I left.”

He accepted the folder.

“Thank you. You didn't have to bring it personally.”

“I know, but I was passing by. Besides, I thought you might still be working.”

“I usually am.”

“That's what I thought.” She glanced at the box on his desk. “Have you found out who sent the chocolates?”

“Not yet.”

“If you do, I hope they explain why they sent a perfectly lovely box of chocolates with such a mysterious note.”

“I'll be sure to ask.”

Posy smiled.

“Good night, Mr. Fitzgerald. Please don't work until morning.”

“I'll consider your advice.”

“That's all I ask.”

She left, and Rafe remained at his desk, listening to the sound of her footsteps fading down the corridor.

Then he picked up his phone again.

This time, he called his father.

Alistair answered almost immediately.

“You've seen the symbol,” his father said.

It wasn't a question.

“Yes. And I want to know why a human intern received a package connected to our family records.”

“Come to the residence tomorrow evening. Your mother and I will explain what we know.”

“I would prefer an explanation tonight.”

“Then you will have to wait until tomorrow.”

Rafe's jaw tightened.

“Father, if someone is using an innocent employee to send messages to me, I won't tolerate it.”

“Be careful, Rafe. You may not understand what you're dealing with.”

“Then explain it to me.”

There was a pause.

“Tomorrow,” Alistair repeated, before ending the call.

Rafe lowered the phone.

On his desk, the crimson crescent caught the light.

He thought of Posy's bright smile, her careful attention to the smallest details, and the way she had brought the package to him without opening the chocolates.

She had done nothing wrong.

Whatever his family knew, whatever the old symbol meant, he would not allow anyone to turn her into a pawn in a game she had never agreed to play.

Outside the office windows, the city glittered beneath the night sky.

And somewhere beyond the reach of Moonberry's security cameras, the person who had sent the box was already preparing their next move.

The message had been delivered.

Now they were waiting to see what Rafe Fitzgerald would do.

Silver trains curved between buildings, rooftop gardens softened the skyline, and the distant Ferris wheel at Starlight Pier turned slowly above the dark water. Beyond the financial district, Bellhaven's older quarter held narrow cobblestone lanes, flower shops, cafés, and elegant stone buildings that had survived centuries of change.Posy loved the view from the executive floor. She especially loved it after the office lights dimmed and the city began to sparkle.Tonight, she stood beside the tall windows with a folder tucked against her chest, watching the last pink light disappear behind the harbor.“It's beautiful, isn't it?” Evelyn asked as she joined her.Posy nodded enthusiastically. “My mother

MY VAMPIRE BOSS IS SWEET ON MEPosy had spent the entire morning trying to convince herself that Rafe Fitzgerald was simply an unusually capable man.It was a reasonable explanation. He was the CEO of a luxury chocolate empire, had years of experience managing emergencies, and probably received training most employees never needed. Perhaps the loading corridor had made his movements look faster than they really were.Perhaps.Unfortunately, every time she remembered him catching that enormous metal cart, her explanation became less convincing.By the time she reached Moonberry & Co. that evening, she had decided on a sensible course of action: she would concentrate on her work, avoid making assumptions, and stop wondering how a man could move across a corridor before she had even finished shouting a warning. She lasted until she entered his office.Rafe stood beside his desk, reading a document.
