Chapter 2

Author: Cats & Dogs
Kendall's POV

Talulah lost her shit. In the blink of an eye, she grabbed a bottle of liquor and smashed it against the corner of the table. Clutching the jagged half of the broken bottle by its neck, she charged at me. "You asked for this, you bitch!"

Kieran and his friends hurriedly stopped her. Yet, I was one step faster. The split second before the bottle came crashing down, I'd already pressed the tip of the fruit knife firmly against her lower abdomen.

Beneath the thin knitted dress was the warm, slightly rounded curve of her belly. Talulah went rigid. Cold sweat trickled down her face, and her hand began to tremble.

I took in her expression and couldn't help but want to smile. Wasn't she supposed to be a psycho?

Talulah was a lot like the old me. However, a knockoff was, and always would be, a knockoff.

I'd reined myself in for far too long around Kieran. It was no wonder he'd forgotten just how unhinged I could be.

"Kendall!" Kieran hurriedly pulled Talulah behind him. He placed his hand on her lower abdomen protectively. "Cut it out."

I cocked my brow. "Cut what out? Weren't you the one who allowed her to run her mouth right to my face? Since she dared to push my buttons, she has to pay the price, doesn't she?"

A prolonged silence ensued.

Kieran sighed, as though he didn't know what to do with me, and his tone softened. "I'll pay the price on her behalf."

The moment the words left his lips, he closed the distance between us. Inch by inch, the fruit knife sank deeper into his side.

In a heartbeat, blood spread across his pristine white shirt. I stared at the rapidly widening pool of crimson. It almost hurt to look at.

Yet, he acted as if he couldn't feel a thing. He smiled at me tenderly before raising his hand and caressing my cheek. "There. Are you happy now?"

"Have you lost your bloody mind, Kieran?" Talulah shrieked, rushing toward us. However, she was forcefully scooped up in his arms and carried away.

Talulah thrashed and cursed the entire way out. Her profanities and emotional voice drifted up from downstairs.

I lowered my gaze.

Talulah cursed and threatened to kill me while crying and checking Kieran's wound. Kieran, on the other hand, cautiously shielded her belly. The couple's figures embraced.

I silently curled my lips. The human heart was truly impossible to fathom.

Kieran and I used to be sworn enemies. He'd steal my project one day, and I'd blow up his company the next.

For the longest time, I genuinely thought he wanted me dead. Who would've thought he'd actually fallen in love with me? And now, he'd fallen out of love with me.

I gently clutched my chest, attempting to ignore the dull ache that was spreading through it. To make matters worse, in the last five years, I'd actually fallen in love with him, too.

…

That afternoon, I flipped my phone over and over again in my hands.

My lover, Jasper Slate, had been searching for me for the last five years. Kieran, however, had planted countless false leads, tricking him into going abroad.

Then, under the pretense of worrying that my enemies might come after me for revenge, Kieran had made sure I was under constant surveillance. He'd either personally kept an eye on me or sent someone to shadow me.

The microchip inside my phone could pinpoint my location. Every single call I made and message I sent was monitored. Even my attempts to upload a photo online were intercepted and blocked.

Kieran had locked me inside a gilded cage and welded the door shut with his own hands.

I was lost in thought when a friend request popped up on Facebook. The profile picture was a photo of Kieran and Talulah.

Talulah was snuggled up in his chest, her eyes crinkling into little crescents, against the backdrop of a sunset on some island.

After I accepted the request, she sent me a barrage of messages. First came several photos.

Kieran sat on the edge of the bed in the first photo, applying belly oil to Talulah's stomach. His eyes were filled with tenderness as he massaged the oil into her baby bump in gentle circles.

He stood at the stove in the kitchen in the second picture, wearing an apron. The counter was lined with mouthwatering, nutritious dishes for pregnant women.

I played the voice message and Talulah's triumphant voice came through. "I heard from his friends that he used to be madly in love with you and that you were someone he couldn't reach. So what? He still got tired of you in the end.

"I couldn't care less about who's the mistress or the wife. The one who holds his heart is the true victor. By the way, I've sent you a little gift. Make sure you sign for it when it arrives."

Just then, the doorbell rang. The package contained a divorce agreement. Kieran's name had already been written in the section for the husband's signature.

His handwriting was sharp and decisive. It was unmistakably his.

I stared at his name for a good while. Then, I laughed heartily.

Did she think I'd cling to him and refuse to let go? In reality, I couldn't wait to get the hell out of this marriage.

Without a second thought, I signed my name, snapped a photo, and sent it to Kieran. "Wishing you a happy new marriage."

  • My Villain Husband Stole My Life   Chapter 11

Kendall's POVKieran asked to meet me one more time after that incident. We met at the café we used to frequent. Unfortunately, things were no longer the same. "How can I earn your forgiveness, Kendall?" he asked.I pondered for a moment. "You dismantled my old team. Tell you what—why don't you transfer your company and all your assets to me as compensation first?" To my surprise, he agreed without the slightest hesitation. He immediately called Sam and had him draw up a contract. He transferred all his assets to me on the spot. I smiled. "You forced me to my knees, and you even let Talulah slap me across the face." He cautiously took my hand and slapped himself hard across the face twice. When I remained indifferent, he reached for the fruit knife on the table. I cocked my brow, watching him. "So you don't blame me for killing your child now?" Kieran frantically shook his head. "You're the most important person to me! If it makes you happy, I'll dig up their grave!"

  • My Villain Husband Stole My Life   Chapter 10

Kendall's POVWhen Jasper and I emerged from the banquet hall, the roar of an engine suddenly echoed from the bottom of the stairs. I looked up and found Talulah behind the wheel of a white sports car. She floored the gas pedal and barreled straight toward me. Her face was flushed crimson behind the windshield. Her eyes were bloodshot, and she looked utterly deranged. "Kendall!" The piercing screech of tires grinding over the gaps between the steps filled the entire entrance portico. However, she abruptly screamed and slammed on the brakes. Kieran had rushed out and planted himself firmly in front of me. The tires locked and skidded half a yard before the car came to a halt inches from him. The car's front bumper was mere inches from his knees. "Kieran Steel, you fucking lunatic! I love you so damn much, yet you'd fucking die for that bitch!" she sobbed, crouching on the ground. Her sobs broke into ragged fragments, reverberating off the walls of the portico. Kieran's shirt

  • My Villain Husband Stole My Life   Chapter 9

Kendall's POVJasper and I attended a banquet to officially announce that our two families had returned. Everyone gaped at me."Kendall? Where have you been in the last five years?""Jasper nearly drove himself insane searching for you. I thought you were dead..." Kieran burst into the ballroom then. Amid the sea of elegant gowns and bespoke suits, Kieran, the richest man in Echelon, looked utterly disheveled. His shirt was a crumpled mess, and fresh blood had begun seeping through the stain at his waist. He looked like he'd just crawled out of a pile of rubble. He wove through the sea of guests and came to a stop in front of me. The noise around us abruptly died down. The clinking of glasses, the hushed whispers, and even the background music seemed to have been toned down. All eyes were on him, focusing on his open palm. Dozens of wedding rings shimmered under the chandeliers. "I'm returning all of these to you, Kendall," he said.I lowered my gaze and took one look a

  • My Villain Husband Stole My Life   Chapter 8

Third-Person POVTalulah's smile froze on her face. "What?" "Kendall's wedding rings. The ones you took from her bedroom," Kieran explained. "Give them back." The hospital room fell silent for a long, long time. The color gradually drained from her face, and her lips began to quiver.Talulah abruptly sat up. Her wrist scraped against the bedframe, turning the gauze a deeper shade of red. "What's the meaning of this, Kieran? I slit my wrists! I almost died, and the first thing you ask me when you walk through that door is about that woman's rings?" "Give them back," he repeated. She went rigid, as if she had just been slapped across the face. After a prolonged silence, she burst into heart-wrenching sobs, clutching the bedsheet so tightly that her knuckles turned white. "Have you ever loved me at all, Kieran? Even just a little? Am I always going to be inferior to her in your heart?"Drinking in her contorted, tear-streaked face, Kieran suddenly realized he felt nothing at

  • My Villain Husband Stole My Life   Chapter 7

Third-Person POVKieran turned the entire city upside down to search for Kendall. There were no records of her leaving the country, no flight bookings, and no trace of her at any hotel, train station, or bus terminal. He even called in favors to check hospital emergency room admissions, wondering if she'd been injured and needed medical attention. Still, nothing turned up. It was as if Kendall had been erased from the face of the earth. The hacked home surveillance system had finally been restored. Kieran stood in the empty living room, staring at the last frozen frame on the screen. At the villa's front gate, a man in a black coat held open the car door for Kendall. She bent down and got inside, her profile illuminated clearly by the streetlight. The man's face remained hidden in the shadows, yet Kieran recognized his silhouette. His hands trembled faintly, and a chill seeped into his bones. Only a single thought remained in his mind. It was so over. He'd found her. Jas

  • My Villain Husband Stole My Life   Chapter 6

Kendall's POVThe man outside wasn't Kieran. He was tall, standing against the light. I couldn't quite make out his features, but his cold presence reached me before his voice did.He lowered his head to look at me. Then, he reached out and brushed the loose strands of hair away from my face, tucking them behind my ear. Having not seen each other for five years, his first words were raspy beyond belief. "You've lost so much weight."He held a photograph. It was a shot of the tree outside my window, taken from the balcony during my livestream moments ago. That single photograph had been enough for him to find me. I grasped his wrist and finally smiled. "Let's go home."Jasper's palm was scorching hot as it enveloped my hand. As our car rounded the corner, I caught a glimpse of a silhouette sprinting after us in the rearview mirror. He pounded the door so violently that the glass rattled in its frame. After what felt like an eternity, the door was finally pulled open. However, t
