Chapter 2

Author: HF Era
Florence abruptly hit the brakes. She seemed apologetic as she handed me 200 dollars and asked me to get out of the car.

“Ty, you should take a cab to visit Maria. You should also use the money to get her a fruit basket. I’ll visit later. When Isaiah gets mad, it takes some effort to get him out of his mood. I’ll have to deal with him for days.”

Isaiah stood outside the car, and his expression was dark.

Florence hurriedly got out of the car to defuse his temper.

I stood to one side in the cold breeze as Isaiah started to throw kicks and punches at the car.

“This is such an awful and ugly car. Who knows how old it even is? I’m not getting in!”

Florence tried to comfort him softly. She said, “I think it’s old and ugly too. I’ll sell it off, so you won’t have to look at it.”

After saying that, Florence immediately made a call to her company to get someone to deal with the car.

She must have forgotten that she had wanted to own her own car back in the year she started the company.

Back in the day, I did my very best while entertaining clients and working so that I could help her fulfill her dream. I had gotten health issues from all the alcohol I was forced to drink.

When we went to collect the car, she hugged me and danced around. “Honey, I won’t ever let you down!”

As I watched the car I bought get towed away, I felt my heart clench in agony.

Florence did not even take a second look at me. She and Isaiah got into another car and left.

I grimaced before calling a number I had blocked five years ago.

The call was answered instantly. “Send me your location. I’ll go back to the country and see you immediately.”

At the hospital, I headed up to my mother’s ward.

She lay in the bed, attached to a respirator.

I put the fruit basket on the table and forced myself to smile. “Mom, Flo bought you this. She’ll be here in a bit.”

Mom could tell that I was not happy, so she said, “Tell her not to come. She’s so busy with work; she should rest well after she finishes up. I’ll be fine. Flo’s a nice girl. You two should be happy together. Don’t get into a tiff because of me.”

The phone rang, and I picked it up. Florence’s voice came through the line.

“Ty, it’ll be a while before I can get there.”

Suddenly, I could hear some withheld moans from her end of the line. “Don’t mess around, Isaiah.”

I quickly hung up. The room was quiet, and only the noise from the medical equipment remained.

As I expected, Florence did not come by at all that night.

The next morning, I wiped Mom’s face. After washing up, I went to Florence’s law firm, ready to grab the divorce agreement from the stack of other papers.

What I did not expect was to be stopped at the door. The security personnel there refused to let me in.

The security guard laughed when he saw me. “Why, isn’t this Mr. Schultz, who tried to badmouth Mr. Jordan out of jealousy? Ms. Hanson really is quite magnanimous. She only fired you instead of having your reputation as a lawyer ruined. You can still find work.”

I did not bother to respond to this.

I looked at the security guard and said, “Let me in. I’ll leave after I pick up my things.”

“I’m sorry. I only take orders from Ms. Hanson and Mr. Jordan.”

Despite his apology, it was clear that the security felt nothing but disdain for me.

I was about to say something when there came the sudden rumble of a motorcycle engine starting up.

A car sped past, and I got caught in its path and was dragged several hundred yards.

After returning to the country, Florence first sent Isaiah a message. [I miss you.]Isaiah assumed that Florence was going to apologize to him, so he was excited as he went to see her. Instead, he got hit on the head with a baseball bat. When he regained consciousness, Isaiah found himself in a dirty underground room. “What’s the meaning of this, Florence?” he asked as he looked down at himself. He had been tied up. Florence picked up the baseball bat and kept hitting Isaiah. “You shouldn’t have done that to Tyson. I didn’t even know how badly you hurt him.”Isaiah cried out as she hit him. “You were the one who didn’t take him to the hospital. How could you blame that on me?”“That’s right; I was at fault too. Why did I only care about you? Why didn’t I check on Tyson? We’re both at fault, but I’ve already gotten my punishment, Isaiah.”News had gone out about Florence’s law firm defending Isaiah as the guilty party, and this resulted in people criticizing Florence. “Tyson, I’ve finally found you.”Florence’s eyes were startlingly red-rimmed. Even her meticulous makeup could not hide the signs of her fatigue. I ignored her and moved to leave. Florence blocked my path. “I was wrong, Ty. I made a huge mistake. Please forgive me? I’ll be better to you from…”Florence suddenly stopped with a choked-off noise.I followed her gaze to find Anthea sauntering over. “Well, if it isn’t Florence Hanson.”Anthea took my arm and beamed. She said to Florence, “How did you know that Tyson and I were getting married?”I raised an eyebrow at this. When had that been decided? However, I did not expose Anthea’s lie. Playing along, I said, “Yes, we’re getting married soon.”Florence’s face was deathly pale as she glared at Anthea’s arm in mine. Tearfully, she said, “Didn’t you say you’d love me forever, Ty? You’re faking, right?”I was shocked by how shameless Florence was being. “I’m a person, Florence. I’m not a beast you can just insult and bully when

That night, when Florence got home, she still held onto a shred of hope. It was our fifth wedding anniversary that day. When she opened the door, she found a team of workers renovating the place. The home that she was so familiar with had undergone some huge changes. Isaiah kept throwing out orders. He stood there as if he were the owner of the house. “Throw those drawers away. They’re hideous! I want to change the style of this place completely. I don’t like it!”Florence could not help but rush forward. “Isaiah, who said you could just come in here and renovate the place? This is the home I share with Tyson. It’s not yours!”Isaiah was furious. He picked up a document and threw it at Florence’s feet. “How could you shout at me just because of your ex-husband, Florence?”When she heard the word “ex-husband,” Florence blanched. She hesitantly picked up the document and found that it was a divorce agreement. She quickly flipped to the last page. When she saw the signatures

Although she was in another country on vacation, Florence felt unsettled. After that passerby called her that day, I had not contacted her again. Florence began to send me messages tirelessly. [Ty, you really went too far that day to bully Isaiah like that.][You have to see things from my perspective, Ty. I didn’t have any choice that day, either. If I had not appeased Isaiah, he would have killed himself!][I’ll apologize to you properly after getting back, okay? Stop being mad.]These messages might as well have stayed unsent. I did not reply to any of them. Finally, Florence went into a full-blown panic and ended her vacation early. She took an early flight home. When she pushed open the door, she was dumbstruck.“Why is the place empty?”Florence looked around and was stunned to discover that all of my things had disappeared. The butler swiftly went forward and told her, “Mr. Jordan said you didn’t want to see anything related to Mr. Schultz anymore, so he told me t

I was wheeled into the operating room. When I regained consciousness, I realized that I was in a private ward. Seeing that I was awake, the woman who had been busy working immediately got up and looked at me worriedly. “How do you feel, Ty? Are you in pain? I’m going to get the doctor for you.”As she spoke, she hit the call button. My throat was too dry for me to speak. She quickly wet a Q-tip and moisturized my lips. I managed to squeak out, “Thanks.”Anthea Wigmore smiled and put a finger to my lips, stopping me from saying more. “Shhh. You don’t need to thank me. Just rest and recuperate well. You were very severely injured this time. You only woke up a full day after the surgery.”Right then, the doctor bustled in to check on my condition. “Very good. At this rate of recovery, you’ll be all better soon.”Only then did Anthea relax. She stood before me and caressed my face. “You’ve gotten thin after five years.”I avoided her gaze. I was afraid that the heartache

The two-faced Isaiah came over to try to help me stand. When Florence was not looking, he whispered in my ear, “I hit your mother on purpose. She deserved it.”Rage welled up in me as my vision blurred. I inhaled deeply and rushed up to punch Isaiah. Isaiah cried out piteously and fell to the ground, sobbing. “Isaiah!” Florence shoved me away in her anger. “Why did you hit Isaiah, Tyson? Have I been too nice to you?”I had just been injured and thus fell to the ground at the shove. My head hit the hard ground, and I felt the world spin. The coat and my tattered clothes fell away. Meanwhile, Florence worriedly caressed Isaiah’s eye, which was darkening from my punch. She kissed the area and cooed, “It’ll be fine with a kiss, Isaiah.”Isaiah wrenched out of Florence’s hold and ran over to a wall. He wore an aggrieved expression. “Since Tyson hates me so much and doesn’t like that I’m in your way, I might as well die!”Florence was shocked by this and quickly said, “Oh, Isai
