Chapter 4

Author: Mr. Eastdale
Remembering how Melvin and Sharon treated me like their own son, even better than they treated their biological daughter, I used my life savings to buy them a peaceful plot at a cemetery on the outskirts of town.

I personally chose the headstone, which was engraved with their names and featured photos of them smiling their brightest smiles.

I had Felix notify all of Vivian's immediate and extended family to come to see them off one last time.

Before the funeral began, I was adjusting the sound system to play the funeral music. Suddenly, there was a harsh whistle, followed by the sound of dogs barking, growing closer and closer.

Tyler appeared wearing a gaudy designer outfit, leading several large dogs on leashes as he swaggered over.

Vivian, heavily made up, followed behind him with a gleeful, malicious smile on her face.

"Oh wow, this is so serious! How boring!" Tyler said in a mocking tone, drawing glares from several relatives.

He did not care at all and unclipped the leashes from his hand. "Go on, babies!"

The dogs, freed from their restraints, immediately went wild in the small cemetery, running amok. They dug at the freshly turned soil with their paws, chased and tore apart the flowers, and wrestled on the ground, turning the scene into complete chaos.

"Tyler! Stop it!" I roared at him to control his dogs.

He just smirked and shrugged. "Oh come on, Ezekiel, don't be so uptight! The dogs are just being playful. They want to get close to your parents!"

As soon as he finished speaking, a massive dog lifted its hind leg and took a long, satisfying piss right on the brand-new headstone. The yellow liquid ran down the black marble surface, and Sharon's kind, smiling face in the photo became utterly defiled.

Another dog even took a massive, steaming dump right in front of the grave, and the stench immediately spread through the air.

Several older relatives were so furious they almost fainted on the spot.

I was about to rush over to stop it when Vivian blocked my way. She looked at the disgusting scene and, instead of stopping it, burst into laughter.

"Tyler, your dogs are so smart. They even know how to pay respects at a funeral. They're even bringing 'gifts'! Way more thoughtful than some ungrateful people!"

Her words were clearly aimed at mocking me.

In the chaos, the largest dog suddenly rammed into the stone platform holding the urns.

Two loud bangs echoed as the two heavy urns fell to the ground. The lids shattered open from the impact, and the ashes spilled everywhere, scattering in the wind.

In an instant, the mad dogs trampled all over them with their paws.

Watching this devastating scene, Vivian actually applauded. "See, that's more like it! That's what I call returning to nature! They were just two old farmers who scraped by off the land anyway. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Getting mixed with dog waste and buried into the ground like this is real natural burial!"

Just then, there was a commotion behind us.

Vivian's uncles, aunts, and extended relatives from her hometown, dozens of them, finally arrived. They stood frozen in shock as they saw the cemetery turned into a disaster zone.

Broken urns lay open on the ground, ashes scattered everywhere, and the entire site was destroyed.

Felix, a rugged man in his 50s, trembled with rage. He pointed at the headstone stained with dog urine and shouted at Vivian with a shaking voice.

"Vivian, have you lost your mind?! What are you doing to your own parents' graves?!"

I held that heavy will in my hands, unable to say a word. The simple, kind faces of Melvin and Sharon kept flashing clearly in my mind again. They were always thinking of me, and their care for me was no less than what they had for their own daughter. It was a massive sum of money. I accepted the will, but I did not plan to keep the money for myself. Instead of boarding my flight home, I bought a ticket to Melvin and Sharon's hometown. In Melvin and Sharon's name, I donated the entire fortune to the small town where they lived their whole lives. I signed an agreement with the town government specifying that the funds must be used exclusively for education. The town government used the money to renovate and expand the town's only elementary school. They also built a modern library and named it "Goodwill Library." On the day the construction was completed, the town erected a memorial archway in honor of Melvin and Sharon to commemorate their charitable act.Standing beneath the arc

The surveillance footage ended abruptly there. I felt a bone-chilling cold shoot straight to my head, and my palms were slick with sweat.A few days later, all the major news outlets published the final investigation results of this horrifying murder case. The final assessment report stated that at the time of the crime, Vivian was suffering from acute mental distress and was in a state of severe psychiatric disorder. Therefore, the forensic psychiatric institute determined she had no criminal capacity. The court ultimately accepted the evaluation.Vivian did not have to bear criminal responsibility under the law, but was sentenced to lifetime mandatory psychiatric treatment.Later, she was sent to a maximum-security psychiatric hospital. The rest of her life would be spent in that fortress-like white building. The day before I left the city, I found myself inexplicably visiting that psychiatric hospital. Through the thick glass, I saw her. She wore an oversized blue-and-white st

I understood immediately what was going on.Tyler acted weird the whole time. He orchestrated this entire tragedy from the restaurant table to the graveyard. And now Vivian knew it too. That deathly calm in her voice over the phone terrified me more than any heart-wrenching screaming could. I immediately pulled up the investigating officer's number and dialed with trembling fingers. As soon as the call connected, I shouted frantically, "Officer! Something's wrong with Vivian! She might be in danger! She just called me."The officer cut me off, his voice even more urgent than mine. "It's too late! We just got a call informing us that there's been a murder at Cloud Nine! We're heading there now!"I felt like I was struck by lightning, my mind going completely blank.I hung up and rushed downstairs like a madman, driving at top speed toward Cloud Nine. When I arrived, the restaurant entrance was already cordoned off with long strips of police tape. I contacted the officer I just s

At the police station, Tyler quickly regained his composure and revealed a cunning side that did not match his appearance. He insisted that he simply lacked the skills and did not properly prepare the raw oysters. Combined with Vivian's blind trust in him, it led to this disaster.Due to the lack of direct evidence of "deliberate" poisoning, plus his family apparently pulling some strings, the police could not charge him with "intentional homicide" for the time being. The cemetery incident could only be punished as "disturbing the peace" with an administrative penalty.Just two days later, his family bailed him out with a hefty sum.As for Vivian, without solid proof that she deliberately instructed Tyler to poison anyone using the oysters, she could only be held morally accountable. So, she was released as well.[Award-Winning Chef Poisons Own Parents for Her Lover, Then Lets Dogs Desecrate Their Graves!]Paired with video footage of the chaotic cemetery scene and tearful audio

Vivian's wild laughter froze on her face. She looked at Felix in disbelief, then mechanically turned around and rushed toward the two damaged headstones. She frantically wiped the dog urine off the headstone with her Chanel sleeve. Finally, she saw the inscription clearly: [Melvin Gardner] and [Sharon Murphy], along with the photos of her parents."No! That's impossible!" She muttered to herself, her face turning deathly pale. She whipped around and lunged at me like a madwoman, grabbing my collar tightly. "Weren't those your parents?! Weren't they supposed to be those two hicks from your hometown?! How did they become my parents? Ezekiel, tell me!"She screamed hysterically. Even the dogs that were running wild moments ago cowered on the ground, too scared to move.I stared at her calmly and replied word by word, "Six months ago, my dad died from a heart attack, and my mom couldn't handle the shock and became bedridden. I went back home to handle the funeral and took two weeks of
