Chapter 4

As Lily was being dragged outside, she made sure to turn and look at me.

She had a wounded look of despair in her eyes. "Andrew, are you really going to do this to me?"

Instead of responding, I simply watched them walk away with a cold look in my eyes.

In the chaos, Kyle suddenly dashed toward me with a raised fist. He didn't even hesitate as he brought it down upon me. "How dare you treat my sister like that! I'm not letting you off that easily! I'll kill you!"

The people around us screamed and scattered away.

Someone stepped forward to stop the fight, but the situation was already spiraling out of control.

In the confusion, I felt someone shoving me, and I ended up ramming against a corner of a table again.

But this time, blood instantly flowed from my forehead and blocked my vision.

"Murder! Andrew is beating someone up!" Evelyn stoked the flames from the sidelines as she screamed in a piercing voice.

By the time I broke free, the sound of police sirens was already drawing near.

I pressed a hand against my bleeding forehead. When I saw Lily being protected by the police, I knew that this incident had gotten way out of hand.

For the next few days, I found myself at the center of the storm.

My photos and personal information were leaked, and everyone on the internet was cursing at me.

Meanwhile, Lily kept releasing so-called evidence.

Photos of me going home late at night were described as me having gone out to see my mistress.

A video of me discussing something at work with a female colleague was trimmed so that the crucial details were left out. Hence, it was described as intimate behavior.

Lily even went to the hospital and filed for an official injury assessment. The injuries she had suffered from falling down somehow turned into injuries I had inflicted on her.

Evelyn led several people to my house, where they banged on the front door and cursed at me, shouting for me to get out of this city.

I didn't argue my case. Instead, I quietly gathered evidence and waited for the day of the court hearing.

Finally, the day of the hearing arrived.

Reporters and curious crowds were gathered outside the courtroom.

Lily was pushed out in a wheelchair by Kyle.

Her face was pale, and she had a weak look in her eyes. She was the very picture of a victim.

Mike and Evelyn were right beside her as they accused me of my crimes on camera.

"That's him! He cheated on his wife and even abused her!" Evelyn pointed at me as she shouted at the livestream camera, "Everyone, take a good look at this piece of trash who beat up his pregnant wife!"

Comments flooded the livestream.

A user wrote, "What an animal! He must be brought to justice!"

Another user commented, "Poor Ms. Tanner. She chose the wrong person to love."

Someone else wrote, "I support Ms. Tanner in asserting her rights. Make him leave without a penny!"

Yet another user commented, "People like him don't deserve to be morticians. He's an absolute disgrace to the industry!"

When I was led into the courtroom by the court officers, the scar on my forehead was still clearly visible.

Lily's eyes reddened as soon as she saw me.

She sobbed pitifully, telling the judge, "Your Honor, I may have lost my child and ruined my health, but I still love him. I really don't want to divorce him."

The judge rapped the gavel and told her to present her evidence.

Lily's lawyer presented a stack of photos, videos, and official injury assessments.

Every piece of evidence was pointing at me being "the jerk who cheated on his wife and beat her up".

When it was my turn to make my statement, I stood up. My gaze swept across the courtroom, then eventually settled on Lily and Kyle, who were clinging to each other.

"I didn't cheat on her, nor did I hurt her." My voice was clear and calm as I spoke over the noise in the courtroom. "Lily was slandering me with those cheating accusations. She claimed I abused her, but she actually staged the whole thing."

Lily immediately screamed, "Nonsense! Do you even have any evidence?"

I retrieved a USB flash drive from my bag and held it above my head. I had a piercing gaze as I said, "Here's some footage of what Lily had done in the morgue."
