Melodramatic

My wife, Lily Tanner, is a mortician. She's trying to avoid getting fired during her pregnancy, so she keeps locking herself in the morgue. I may be her husband and colleague, but even I am not allowed inside. I don't want her to work too hard, so in the middle of the night, I sneak into the morgue to do her checks for her. However, she reacts by going berserk and sounding the alarm. Ever since then, I've been very careful around her, fearing that it may affect her pregnancy. Later on, with Lily repeatedly receiving praise from the deceased's family, our department decides to hold a commendation ceremony for her. The whole family seems relieved. However, as soon as Lily receives her award, I ask her for a divorce. The room instantly falls silent. Tearing off the medal on her chest, she complains in a wounded tone, "I'm working myself to the bone even when I'm pregnant, and I'm doing all this to give our child a better life. You're worried that I'll outperform you and overtake you as the top mortician in the industry, aren't you?" I look away from her, a cold smile forming on my lips. "Spend the rest of your life with those bodies, then. I don't want the child anymore, and I'm definitely divorcing you."

Chapter 1
The wounded expression instantly froze on Lily Tanner's face.At that moment, her eyes, which had made my heart ache for a decade, were filled with disbelief. She subconsciously put a hand on her belly as she shouted at me in a sobbing voice, "Andrew Conway! Are you out of your mind? How could you say such things on an occasion like this?"Criticism came at me from all directions. Some people even whipped out their phones to take photos.Someone said, "Andrew, Lily is still pregnant. How could you do this to her?"Another person said, "Exactly. Why couldn't you have said this at home instead? Do you really have to stir up such trouble on an important occasion like this?"Someone else said, "Lily has been nothing but nice to you. How heartless can you be?"Accusations came one after another, piercing into me like countless needles.I knew that.In everyone's eyes, I was the ungrateful jerk who was jealous of my own wife. After all, Lily had always been putting on the act of th

Chapter 2
Kyle shouted, "Andrew, how could you slander Lily like that? She was working overtime in the morgue for the sake of her job and family! You couldn't do it yourself, so you're making malicious assumptions about her, aren't you? How pathetic! You're not even fit to be a man, let alone a mortician!"I scoffed as I glanced at Lily's pale face. "Sure, Lily's the only person in this world who's fit to be a mortician. No wonder she's still in the morgue late at night every day. But as for whether she's actually working in there, I suppose she herself knows the answer best."With that, I turned around to leave.Just then, a commotion rang out from the crowd. My father-in-law, Mike Tanner, was making his way here with a grave look on his face.He was one of the veteran leaders of the workplace, and he was distinguished and highly respected. But at that moment, he was shaking with anger as he pointed a finger at me. "I can't believe how wrong I was about you! Lily is pregnant, but instead

Chapter 3
Lily turned to Mike and said pleadingly, "Dad, please talk to Andrew. I know he doesn't really want a divorce. He's just not thinking straight right now."Mike let out a heavy snort, but he did indeed soften his tone. "Andrew, after everything Lily has said, can't you just swallow your pride and apologize? She's pregnant, and she's emotionally unstable. Would it kill you to just give in to her a little?"Also, Kyle is young and hot-headed, and you can't blame him for trying to protect his sister. You're a grown man, so stop being so petty."Lily's best friend, Evelyn Gray, had somehow joined the crowd as well. "Lily has been so good to you, so what are you even complaining about? You've got nothing better to do, have you? You're just looking for trouble!"Wiping her tears, Lily choked and said, "Andrew, I know you've been stressed at work lately. If you're going through a hard time, you can share the burden with me. Don't suffer in silence, okay? And please, don't use divorce to hu

Chapter 4
As Lily was being dragged outside, she made sure to turn and look at me.She had a wounded look of despair in her eyes. "Andrew, are you really going to do this to me?"Instead of responding, I simply watched them walk away with a cold look in my eyes.In the chaos, Kyle suddenly dashed toward me with a raised fist. He didn't even hesitate as he brought it down upon me. "How dare you treat my sister like that! I'm not letting you off that easily! I'll kill you!"The people around us screamed and scattered away.Someone stepped forward to stop the fight, but the situation was already spiraling out of control. In the confusion, I felt someone shoving me, and I ended up ramming against a corner of a table again. But this time, blood instantly flowed from my forehead and blocked my vision."Murder! Andrew is beating someone up!" Evelyn stoked the flames from the sidelines as she screamed in a piercing voice.By the time I broke free, the sound of police sirens was already drawing

My words hit like a bombshell, instantly throwing the room into complete chaos.Everyone was dumbfounded, and their faces were filled with shock. With permission from the judge, I played the video right then and there. The footage was a little dim, but it was clear that the video was recorded in the morgue. The morgue looked a little creepy with only several emergency lights illuminating the space.On-screen, Lily was wearing her white coat as she and a naked young man hugged each other.Their movements were intimate as they exchanged explicit words. The young man was none other than Kyle!More shockingly, Kyle had actually been lying on a morgue slab with a white cloth draped over his body. He had been pretending to be a corpse! He slipped out from under the cloth and started getting intimate with Lily in the morgue. "Lily, that foolish husband of yours really thinks you're working overtime in the morgue, doesn't he?"Kyle kissed Lily's neck as he said mockingly, "He's proba

I said, "Lily deceived me and threatened me with the child she had with her adoptive brother. And now, she's turning around and claiming that I abused her and cheated on her!"The courtroom was in an uproar.Voices of discussion from the gallery crashed upon us like waves, and camera flashes from the reporters flickered frantically.Mike didn't expect the secret he had been hiding for years to be exposed just like that. His vision went black, and he almost crashed onto the floor.Evelyn's mouth hung open, and she couldn't utter a single word for a long while.Lily suddenly screamed as she got up from her wheelchair and lunged at me, but the court officials stopped her in time. Her hair was a mess, and she had a wild look in her eyes. She no longer possessed even a shred of the meekness of a victim.Kyle looked devastated as he collapsed into his chair, completely still and silent.I looked coldly at them, my voice ringing throughout the courtroom as I said, "The evidence is air

Lily's colleagues were looking at her in a different light now.The respect and admiration in their gazes were now replaced by mockery and alienation.Whenever Lily passed by the corridor, she would hear whispers behind her.She forced herself to appear calm as she entered the office, only to find that my desk was empty. The documents on my desk were cleared away, and only a lone computer remained. In the past, Lily and I sat next to each other at work.We would chat about random things and do the deceased's mortuary makeup together. We were completely in sync with each other then.My professional skills were sharper than hers, so I was always offering the best help whenever she got stuck in a rut.On quite a number of occasions, she could finish her work only because I was silently helping her behind the scenes. But now, my desk was empty. The whole office felt lifeless."Lily, there's something off with this body's makeup, but I'm not sure what it is." Kyle approached her

The fridge was always empty.Sometimes, Kyle would help Lily do the chores, but he was so clumsy that he only made things even worse, and she grew even more irritated with him.She couldn't stand it anymore, so she started contacting me.She texted me on WhatsApp, and her tone was much softer now. "Andrew, can we talk? I'm sorry about what I did in the past. Please forgive me."The message was sent, but she never received any replies.Later on, she tried calling me.The phone rang for a long while before the call was picked up. However, only Charlie's voice came through. "Andrew doesn't want to hear your voice. Don't call him ever again."Then, he mercilessly hung up.Lily gripped her phone in her hand, tears streaming uncontrollably down her face.It was the first time she experienced complete rejection, and she felt a bitter ache in her heart. But even then, she refused to back down. She decided to see me in person instead. She heard from my former colleagues that after I

Lily had always thought that Kyle genuinely cared for her and admired her.But as it turned out, it was all a lie.She recalled how she had betrayed me for Kyle's sake. She had lost her family, her job, and everything she ever possessed. She felt like an utter fool.Immense regret and fury welled up within her.She flung the door open and charged in.Kyle was startled when he saw her. He hastily ended the call, and his face was turning pale.Lily's voice was trembling with anger. She pointed at Kyle, glaring at him with her bloodshot eyes as she said, "I heard everything you just said! Kyle, you liar! How dare you lie to me!""Lily, I can explain. It's not what you think it is," Kyle hastily said.Lily screamed, "I heard every single word you said. There's no talking your way out of this."Realizing that he was left with no choice, Kyle decided to just drop the act.His lips curled into a twisted smile. "And so what if you heard everything? Lily, do you really think I'd fal

However, Lily was holding on too tight.I said in a cold voice, "I have nothing to do with you."Lily was sobbing uncontrollably. "We've been together for a decade! I know you still love me, or you wouldn't have hated me so much."I stared at her disheveled appearance. However, there was not a shred of compassion in my gaze. I only felt hatred toward her.I scoffed. "Lily, do you know why I'd set up a camera in the morgue?"Lily froze, then stared at me through the tears."At first, I just found it odd," I slowly began, my voice calm yet lined with biting coldness. "Every time you came out of the morgue, you'd look panicked. You kept holding onto your phone, and you never picked up my calls. I was worried that you were in some kind of danger, or someone was threatening you. That's why I set up the camera in the morgue. But I never thought it would end up capturing a scene like that."I paused for a moment. A hint of pain flashed across my eyes before coldness replaced it. "Lily,
