My Wife Sleeps With A Corpse

The wounded expression instantly froze on Lily Tanner's face.

At that moment, her eyes, which had made my heart ache for a decade, were filled with disbelief.

She subconsciously put a hand on her belly as she shouted at me in a sobbing voice, "Andrew Conway! Are you out of your mind? How could you say such things on an occasion like this?"

Criticism came at me from all directions. Some people even whipped out their phones to take photos.

Someone said, "Andrew, Lily is still pregnant. How could you do this to her?"

Another person said, "Exactly. Why couldn't you have said this at home instead? Do you really have to stir up such trouble on an important occasion like this?"

Someone else said, "Lily has been nothing but nice to you. How heartless can you be?"

Accusations came one after another, piercing into me like countless needles.

I knew that.

In everyone's eyes, I was the ungrateful jerk who was jealous of my own wife.

After all, Lily had always been putting on the act of the good wife who was hardworking, kind, and extremely thoughtful of her husband.

When she came home from work early in the morning, she would even prepare breakfast for the whole family.

Her parents always criticized me. They said I didn't care enough about her, and that I had actually allowed their precious daughter to keep working even while she was pregnant.

On top of that, they would say that I had married the best wife anyone could ever ask for.

But I didn't care about all that anymore.

I pried her fingers off of me, insistent on leaving.

Just then, a figure rushed up to us and stood right in front of Lily, shielding her.

It was her younger brother, and also the new intern at our workplace, Kyle Tanner.

"Andrew, how inhumane can you be?" Kyle sounded even more worked up than Lily did. The veins on his forehead throbbed as he continued, "Lily is still pregnant, and she's worked herself to the bone for our family. She's practically holed up in the morgue all day! But instead of feeling bad for her, you're asking her for a divorce right now, of all times? What kind of man are you?"

As he spoke, he carefully held Lily's arm. He immediately switched to a gentle tone when he said to her, "Lily, it's okay. There's no point in staying with a heartless man like him."

Lily leaned into Kyle's arms, tears streaming continuously down her face.

Kyle's face was turning red in anger and indignation. "Lily was so nice to you, but you just had to hurt her like that, huh? Listen here, Andrew. If something happens to her, I won't have mercy on you!"

I scoffed as I glanced at Lily. "Could you swear that the things you did in the morgue were all part of a mortician's job description?"

My words seemed to have struck a nerve, for Lily's face instantly turned pale.

She subconsciously tightened her grip on Kyle's arm, a look of panic flashing across her eyes.

Kyle immediately pulled Lily behind him.

Then, he got right in my face and started shouting at me.
