Chapter 4

Author: Jasmine's Age
Josh held the baby while giving me a dismissive look. "You're useless. You can't even take care of your own home, so what makes you think you deserve the master bedroom? A nice room like this should go to my precious grandson!"

Tina nodded repeatedly in agreement. She then seemed to think of something. She turned around, went back into the bedroom, and brought out our wedding photos before dumping every single one into the trash.

"Steve already suffers from anxiety. He'll be upset if he sees these."

Josh gave Tina an approving thumbs-up. Their family looked perfectly happy together.

Only after the house had been rearranged to their satisfaction did Tina wave me over. "Hey, you. I recall you booked a private dining room for a client, didn't you?

"Book another one. We'll use the one you've already booked for our family celebration!"

The matter-of-fact way Tina said it struck me as ridiculous.

I gave this family everything I had, but they treated me like a total chump and a walking ATM.

I actually wanted to see just how shameless they could become.

I nodded expressionlessly.

"Caleb, I knew you'd understand!" Tina put on an affectionate act, walked over, and kissed me on the forehead. "Caleb, with Steve staying here, there's not enough space. Why don't you move out?

"Don't worry. I'll come visit you for an hour every week. Of course, if you behave yourself, I might even stay a few extra minutes."

I suppressed my disgust and nodded with a fake smile, but the next second, Ryan raised his smartwatch. "Since you're being nice to Daddy Steve, I'll give you five minutes of video calls every week too.

"Only five minutes, though. Otherwise Daddy Steve will get upset."

I nearly bit the inside of my mouth raw.

It was the only thing stopping me from losing my temper right there.

When I bent down to pack my things, Josh suddenly stepped on my hand. "All this stuff belongs to Tina. What gives you the right to take any of it?

"If you touch so much as a single dime, I'm calling the cops and pressing charges!"

Josh's expression turned vile as he increased the pressure on my hand.

Sweat broke out across my forehead from the pain.

I looked up, only to see Tina and Ryan completely absorbed in playing with the baby.

"Unbelievable. I've really ended up surrounded by a bunch of ungrateful jerks!"

I clenched my jaw and forcefully pulled my hand free.

Josh staggered backward before crashing to the floor with a loud thud.

Tina immediately put the baby down and rushed to Josh's side. She then glared at me with pure resentment.

I acted as if I hadn't seen any of it.

I turned around and walked out of the house.

Later, I scrubbed my hand hard with a tissue. Only after the skin broke and started bleeding did I disgustedly toss the tissue into the trash.

Once that was done, I picked up my phone and called my lawyer.

"I want to give up custody of Ryan."

My lawyer acknowledged it. He then sent me two photos a long while later.

"Mr. Comb, your marriage certificate is fake."

Tina didn't reply to my message. The next day, I waited outside the family court for a long time, but she never showed up.Just as I frowned and reached for my phone to call her, Tina appeared in front of me. She was limping as she held Ryan's hand.Ryan was completely different from the way he'd treated me before. With tears streaming down his face, he threw himself into my arms and cried out for me."Dad, I know I was wrong. Daddy Steve wasn't good to me at all. He hit me every day and wouldn't even give me food."Only you ever truly treated me well. Dad, please don't abandon me."As he spoke, he wiped the tears from the corners of his eyes with his grimy hand. He then pointed at Tina. "Mom knows she was wrong too. She told me that from now on, she'll treat you well, work hard to make money and support the family, and she'll never do anything to hurt you again!"Tina smiled and gently rubbed Ryan's head. Her eyes were also filled with guilt and regret as she looked at me. "Hon

Tina stared at Steve's barely conscious state in horror. She instantly panicked. She clenched her jaw through the pain, struggled to her feet, grabbed him, and hurried downstairs.I watched her leave anxiously.I felt nothing but satisfaction.Back then, when I'd worked myself to exhaustion and my stomach condition suddenly flared up, I had vomited blood and could barely move.I'd also been out meeting a client in a place where it was nearly impossible to hail a cab.I had no choice but to call Tina and ask her to drive over and take me to the hospital, but every time I called, she hung up.Even when I sent her messages, she never replied.I kept waiting and waiting until, in despair, I finally put down my phone. In the end, a kind stranger happened to pass by and drove me to the hospital. But by the time I arrived, it was already too late. I suffered massive internal bleeding. The doctor said that if I'd arrived just thirty minutes earlier, I wouldn't have had to suffer nea

Unfortunately, neither of them had any money.Steve thought for a moment, and his eyes suddenly lit up. He said he would go ask the woman who had kept him for money. She happened to be the owner of Tina's company.Tina hesitated. She frowned slightly, walked over to me, and tugged at my sleeve. "Honey, if I can get the money, restore the house to its original condition, and make everything good as new, would you remarry me?"As she spoke, she raised her hand and slapped herself hard across the face. "I was confused before. I only lost my head because Steve and I used to be in a relationship together when we were younger."But I love you. You're the only one I love now!"Looking at her tearful, lovestruck expression, I felt nothing but disgust. It took all my effort to suppress the nausea churning in my stomach, but Tina took my silence as consent. Her eyes immediately lit up with joy, and she grabbed Steve and ran out.Naturally, I wasn't about to miss a show like this.I dr

None of that had anything to do with me anymore. Now that I'd cut ties with them, I spent the next few days looking for a new place and moving.Three days later, I returned to my old house to retrieve a few important documents. The moment I opened the door, the stench of garbage hit me in the face.I walked inside with disgust and found dirty clothes scattered everywhere. The kitchen sink was piled high with unwashed dishes. There were also half-empty takeout containers.Ryan, who had always been kept clean and tidy, now looked like a child who lived on the streets.Hearing the noise, Tina slowly walked out of the master bedroom. The moment she saw me, a flicker of hope appeared in her eyes. She hurried over to me."Honey, I knew you didn't mean what you said that day. You must have missed us and couldn't bear to leave, so you came back, didn't you?"Honey, this household really can't function without you. Look how filthy it's gotten. You can't stand seeing it like this, can

One photograph after another appeared on the phone screen. As Tina stared at the pictures in my hand, her face gradually turned pale.Looking at her expression, I couldn't help but find it ridiculous. "Tina, the look on your face is hilarious. Looks like you've been cheated on."Tina clenched her fists tightly. She uttered through clenched jaws, "Why? Why did you lie to me?"Steve frantically waved his hands. "Honey, listen to me. Let me explain."They forced me to do it with money, but you're the one I love. The child may have been mine with another woman, but from now on, I'll only recognize you as his mother!"You have to believe me! Haven't we been happy together lately? I only wanted to get some money from them so we could have an even better life!"Tina snorted. She grabbed Ryan, crouched down, and looked directly into his eyes. "Ryan, tell me. What did those ladies do when they came over?"Ryan tilted his head and thought for a moment. "They kissed Daddy Steve on the mou

My grip tightened around my phone. That explained why Tina had always refused whenever I suggested putting both our names on the property. She'd even made it sound reasonable, saying that since I was the one paying the mortgage, my name should be the only one on the deed.Looking back now, perhaps she'd been plotting against me from the very beginning. She wanted me to willingly support her entire family."The marriage certificate is fake, huh. That actually makes things easier."I smirked. I immediately contacted a real estate agent and put the luxury apartment on the market at a discounted price.I only cared about selling it as quickly as possible.Coincidentally, that very afternoon, the agent called to tell me that a buyer was interested.I signed the contract without hesitation, took the money, and checked into a five-star hotel.Leaning back against the comfortable sofa, I looked out at the night view and let out a satisfied sigh.My phone started buzzing beside me.
