Chapter 3

Author: Pear Snowman
"If we're getting divorced, then we'll go to the courthouse tomorrow. We'll split the assets 50-50, and Brian stays with me."

After our conversation fell apart that night, Rachel stopped pretending to be kind. She dropped her gentle mask and began following the advice from the online post, giving me the silent treatment.

Every day after work, she came home and ignored both me and Brian completely. She'd change her shoes, wash up, and then lock herself in the study. The whole routine flowed effortlessly.

Living under the same roof, Brian and I might as well have been invisible to her. She wouldn't even spare us a glance, let alone play with or take care of her own child.

I cooked three meals a day and set them on the table. Rachel wouldn't even look at them before ordering expensive takeout. When the food arrived, she'd feast on it right in front of us. Afterward, she'd leave the trash on the table without cleaning up, then head straight into the study, cold and indifferent.

I watched her childish yet cruel performance coldly, quietly collecting evidence of her neglect and indifference.

What truly broke my heart was what happened half a month later.

Late one night, Brian suddenly developed a high fever and wouldn't stop crying. His little face was flushed bright red. Panicked, I spent the entire night carrying him around the living room, trying to soothe him.

Rachel, who had remained silent the whole time, suddenly yanked open the study door and shouted at me furiously, "Can you make him shut up? I have work tomorrow. Are you trying to ruin my life?"

Suppressing my anger and disappointment, I asked for help, "Our son has a high fever. Can you lend a hand?"

"If he's sick, give him medicine or take him to the hospital. What's the point of asking me? I'm not a doctor!"

She wouldn't even bend down to look at her feverish child. Instead, she picked up a blanket and pillow from the couch, walked into the guest room, and slammed the door shut behind her.

The dull click of the lock shattered the last lingering hope I had for our marriage—and for Rachel.

That night, I carried Brian to the hospital alone, taking a cab in the middle of the night and staying by his bedside until morning.

The next day, I quietly bought several miniature hidden cameras and installed them in the living room, hallway, and other areas without blind spots.

From then on, every act of neglect toward Brian and every instance of emotional abuse toward me were thoroughly recorded.

After putting Brian to sleep that night, I opened the post again as usual. Sure enough, there was a new update.

"I've been giving him the cold shoulder for two weeks. He's up every night taking care of the kid. He looks completely drained. I think he's close to his breaking point. It's time for the final move."

The comments were just as malicious as ever.

"Keep it up, OP. Drag it out a little longer. It won't be long until he hands over custody."

"Stay-at-home husbands have no backbone. He can't keep this up forever. Victory is yours."

There were also plenty of people calling her out.

"This post made me so angry that I can't sleep. How did someone like you end up with such a good husband? Just let him go already!"

"OP, have some decency. How can you be this cruel to your own child? Don't be surprised if you end up alone with nothing."

Rachel replied to every criticism with hostility and spite.

I scrolled through the page expressionlessly, taking screenshots and screen recordings of all her posts, the comments, her account profile, and her IP information. I made sure to collect every piece of evidence.

A few days later, on a Saturday morning, I was feeding Brian when Rachel suddenly wheeled a large suitcase out of the bedroom. She was fully dressed, her expression cold.

"I heard Rachel took a manual labor job at a construction site in town a while back. Then, she got hit by a steel bar and broke her leg. She's a cripple now."Larry shook his head and continued, "Her parents curse her every day in the village, calling her a good-for-nothing divorcee. The whole family can barely afford to eat meat. No one in the village wants anything to do with them. They treat them like the plague."Listening to all this, I felt nothing."You reap what you sow." I lifted my coffee and looked calmly at Larry. Then, I added, "When she plotted against me, she should've known that it would come back to haunt her one day. "Larry, I still have some designs to revise. I'll get going."I walked out of the cafe and breathed in the fresh afternoon air.The woman who had once smugly posted online, plotting how to destroy her husband and tear her family apart, had ultimately schemed herself into an abyss where she had nothing left.Meanwhile, I had finally been given a

That afternoon, Claire and I went to the preschool together to pick up Brian. We had just walked out of the school gate when a woman with tattered clothes, messy hair, and unkempt appearance suddenly came charging out from a street corner. It was Rachel, completely desolate. Her eyes were wild and her expression was almost feral. She threw her arms open and lunged toward Brian."Baby! It's me, Mommy! I'm your real mommy! Come here and let me hold you!"Terrified by her frightening appearance, Brian immediately burst into tears. He clung tightly to Claire's neck, burning his little face against her shoulder and trembling all over."Baby, don't be scared. Mommy's here. You're safe."Claire immediately pulled Brian protectively into her arms, soothing him gently. At the same time, she cautiously stepped back, shielding both me and Brian behind her. When Rachel saw how completely the child depended on Claire and how terrified he was of her, the madness in her eyes was instantly rep

The judge carefully reviewed the evidence, his brows furrowing as his expression grew serious."Defendant Peter Freeman, state your requests."I rose calmly, my gaze sweeping over the defeated Rachel."I firmly oppose any change to the custody arrangement. At the same time, I request that the court order the plaintiff to pay a lump sum of 100 thousand dollars in child support for the three years during which she abandoned the child and to make monthly child support payments of three thousand dollars beginning this month until the child turns 18 years old.""100 thousand dollars?" Rachel instantly lost control, screaming with bloodshot eyes. "I have nothing now! I can't possibly come up with that much money! You're extorting me!""When you secretly transferred marital assets and heartlessly abandoned your child, you had far more than that amount in your possession," I shot back coldly. The courtroom arguments were over almost as soon as they began. The evidence was solid, and ever

"Peter, will you only be happy once you've destroyed our entire family?" Rachel asked."Your family was the one that came here to cause trouble, spread rumors, defame, and harass me. I'm simply protecting my legal rights."My gaze remained cold and unwavering. Then, Rachel noticed Claire sitting quietly beside me. All the old and new resentment came rushing back at once. She lost control, clenched her fists, and charged forward."You're the outsider who keeps sticking your nose into our business! I'm going to teach you a lesson!"Claire's expression didn't change. She calmly stepped aside, caught Rachel by the wrist, and smoothly twisted her arm. She pinned the hysterical woman firmly against the mediation table, restraining her."Behave yourself!" The officers immediately stepped forward and restrained the struggling Rachel, issuing a stern warning. "You've got some nerve, causing a scene at the police station!"Rachel continued struggling and screaming hysterically when sudden

After a brief moment of shock, Olivia became even more aggressive and reached out to snatch my phone."How dare you record us? I'll beat you up, you ungrateful bastard!"Just as her hand was about to reach me, another hand suddenly shot out and grabbed her wrist with a firm grip impossible to break free from.Claire stepped firmly in front of me, her eyes cold and sharp, her voice calm yet commanding."I've already called the police. You can explain everything to them."The moment Gerard and Olivia heard the words "called the police", they panicked. Their bravado immediately faded, but they remained stubborn and defiant. Olivia yanked her wrist free and screamed, fiercely but weakly, "Go ahead and call the police! We just want to see our own grandson. Who are you to stop us? You're an outsider!"Claire couldn't be bothered to argue with them. She stepped sideways to shield both me and Brian, then asked me gently, "Are you okay?""I'm fine." I nodded my head lightly, staring co

"All I have to do is submit the evidence to the industry association and her company's senior management. The rest will take care of itself."Claire handled things swiftly and decisively, never dragging her feet. Within a week, Rachel's punishment arrived right on schedule. That day, I was at the studio, coordinating with a client, when my phone suddenly rang with a call from Rachel. The moment I answered, her nearly hysterical roar exploded through the receiver, filled with despair and fury."Peter Freeman! Did you do this? Did you send those posts and all that evidence to my company?"I held the phone away from my ear, my voice calm and indifferent. "I have no idea what you're talking about."Her voice was hoarse with desperation. "Stop pretending! Now, everyone in the company knows what I did three years ago. HR just called me in. They're going to fire me for serious violation of the company's values and code of ethics. "I was about to be promoted to vice president! You've ru
