Chapter 3

Author: Paper Relic
The moment Autumn saw me, she went pale.

She instinctively took a step toward me, her lips moving as if she wanted to say something. But in the end, she said nothing.

I let out a mocking laugh and turned to Kevin instead. "Or do you think this is my fault?"

Kevin's face went white as he nervously twisted the hem of his suit jacket, wrinkling it in the process. I stared at the suit he was wearing, the very one I'd personally helped design.

There were countless times when I pictured myself wearing that suit, happily waiting for Autumn to walk down the aisle, with Kevin right there at my side, giving us his blessing.

But now, the one wearing it wasn't me, and the one marrying Autumn wasn't me either.

Kevin took a step toward me, clearly flustered as he tried to explain himself to me. "Clark, I'm sorry. I just…"

"You just what? You just couldn't help making a move on my fiancée? I thought you were my friend, but I guess I was just a blind fool!"

All the anger, heartbreak, and resentment I'd been holding back came pouring out at once. By the time I came to my senses, my fist had already slammed into his face.

Kevin hit the ground, a thin trickle of blood running from the corner of his mouth. Autumn shot forward at once, putting herself in front of him and snapping, "Clark, what the heck are you doing?"

But Kevin held her back. "Let him vent."

Then he walked up to me and closed his eyes. "Clark, if you want to hit me, then hit me. I won't fight back. Once you've gotten it all out of your system, you'll still be my child's godfather."

My whole body went rigid. "What is that supposed to mean?"

Instead of answering, he simply turned his gaze to the faint curve of Autumn's belly. In an instant, my mind went completely blank.

By the time I realized what I was doing, I already had his collar in a death grip. But in the next moment, Autumn stormed over and slapped me hard across the face.

"Clark, have you lost your mind? It's your own fate that you don't get to be this baby's father, so why are you taking it out on Kev?

"He ruined his own face and endured three years of humiliation just to protect your feelings. What right do you have to blame him?"

Autumn screamed at me in a fit of rage, her eyes filled with disgust. Then she took Kevin by the hand and walked away without a backward glance.

Miranda glared at me furiously. "Autumn is carrying Kev's child! If anything happens to him, she won't forgive you for the rest of her life!"

Even Tony looked at me with nothing but disappointment. "Clark, that was too far."

I sank to the ground, dazedly watching them chase after Autumn. It felt like every ounce of strength had been sucked out of me.

They all seemed to have forgotten that Autumn and I had a child once, too, five years ago.

Back then, wanting to help Kevin make a name for his newly established company, Autumn went behind my back and traveled with him to medical equipment companies all over the place, trying to drum up business.

She drank glass after glass of ice-cold liquor. And that child we had finally managed to conceive, the one we didn't even know was there yet, was gone before we ever had the chance to find out.

When I found out, I was so angry that I wanted to end my friendship with Kevin once and for all. But Autumn held me tightly and told me not to blame Kevin.

She said she'd only wanted to do something for the people I cared about, something that would make me happy.

Back then, I believed every word. I thought she was just too kind for her own good. I had choked out words of comfort, telling her over and over that we could still have another child someday.

The tears she'd shed onto my neck that day were hot enough to burn me. But now, as I watched her walk away without so much as a backward glance, I felt cold all over, and I shivered from head to toe.

Unable to take the shock any longer, I collapsed to the ground. When I woke up, Autumn was sitting beside my bed.

The moment she met my hollow gaze, she stiffened. "The doctor said you need to get plenty of rest."

She held out a glass of hot water and a pill, intending to give them to me. With my gaze on her, I pushed her hand away.

The hot water spilled all over the back of her hand, instantly turning the skin red.

Her brows knitted together, but she silently endured the pain. And when I tried to get up and leave, she suddenly grabbed my wrist. "Clark, you can take out all your anger on me if you want. But you can't go outside right now."

Autumn held onto me tightly. She looked like she was on edge, like she was terrified I'd discover something.

Suddenly, the sound of porcelain breaking echoed up from the living room downstairs.

A familiar roar of rage followed immediately after. My heart clenched at the sound. I yanked myself free from her before racing downstairs.

And the moment I saw what was happening in the living room, the blood in my veins ran cold.

The call connected, but for a long while, there was nothing but silence on the other end.The moment I realized it might be Autumn, I immediately tried to end the call. But before I could, her hoarse voice came through the phone."Clark, I suddenly have another set of memories in my head. You went back to the past and changed our future, didn't you?"She choked back a sob. "If you already knew the future, why didn't you stop me? If I'd just never run out of that classroom, if I'd just never gone to Kevin, maybe this time, we would've had a happy ending."There was no point pretending I didn't know anything anymore just to dodge her questions. So, I stayed silent for a moment before finally speaking."I already tried that path back then, when I caught you and Kevin in bed together. Don't you remember the answer you gave me in the end?"Before she could say anything else, I hung up. But Autumn was more persistent than I'd expected. The next day, at my celebration party, she appear

Clark's POVEven after I'd settled into the car, I was still wiping at my wrist.Dawn Hale saw what I was doing but didn't say anything about it. She simply took a sterilized towel from the car's climate-controlled compartment and gently wiped my wrist. The towel was warm against my skin, and somehow, that warmth seemed to reach all the way into my heart. "Aren't you going to ask who she was?"Dawn just smiled and gently kissed my cheek. "Rather than worrying about that unimportant person, I'd much rather my dear husband take better care of himself while he's busy working toward his goals."As I pulled her into my arms, I couldn't help but chuckle. Yet when I lowered my gaze, Autumn's words once again echoed in my mind. "Do you really not remember everything we went through together?"I hadn't answered, not because I didn't remember, but because I remembered everything far too clearly.I remembered exactly how she and Kevin had betrayed me, and how they drove my parents and me i

The space around Autumn crumbled apart slowly, then rapidly snapped back together. The spacious penthouse transformed into a cramped, suffocating basement. A greasy, grime-covered photo of her and Kevin hung on the brick wall.Though it was supposed to be a wedding photo, it looked more like a random snapshot of the two of them together.Even the smiles in the photo looked painfully forced. Kevin, who had been sprawled helplessly on the floor a moment ago, now had his own face back.He looked down at the wrinkled tank top he was wearing and suddenly shouted, "What the hell is going on?"Autumn was stunned by the unbelievable change as well. She immediately looked down at the phone in her hand. But no matter how far she scrolled, the text from before was nowhere to be found, as if the whole thing had been nothing but a hallucination.Yet at some point, her perfectly tailored outfit had become a washed-out T-shirt and jeans. Even the ring Clark had once put on her finger was gon

Autumn hesitated for a moment before turning her cold gaze on Kevin. "Is something wrong?"Kevin was taken aback. Ever since he kept Autumn from telling everyone about her relationship with Clark, she had started treating him coldly. He knew she was angry.Just like back when Clark had lost both legs because of the two of them, Autumn had been furious with him back then too. At one point, she had even threatened to leave him and be good to Clark. But when he pretended to be drunk at a bar, she still came running back to him without a second thought. So, this time, he figured, it was only a matter of time before Autumn forgave him. He stepped forward and placed his hands on Autumn's shoulders."Autumn, you have to move on eventually. You can't keep living in the past. Clark cared about us deeply. He wouldn't want to see us spend the rest of our lives hurting over him."At the mention of Clark, Autumn froze. She raised her head to look at the man before her, the man who was using

Third-Person POVThe moment Autumn saw Clark running into the street, she frantically sprinted in his direction. But by then, it was already too late. That slender figure was swallowed up by the oncoming traffic before being brutally sent flying. For a moment, the entire world seemed to come to a standstill. It was June, yet Autumn suddenly felt unbearably cold. It was as though icy wind was pouring straight into her heart, causing her hands to shake. She stiffly walked over to the motionless Clark and nudged him. "Clark, what are you doing?"Her face was white as paper, but she still forced a mocking smile onto her lips. "Are you pulling another stunt to force me to leave Kev?"Autumn ignored the shrill honking around her and the onlookers' whispers. She stubbornly refused to look away, as though she were waiting for him to answer. But the person lying there showed no reaction whatsoever. It was unbearably quiet, so quiet that Autumn could hear her own racing heartbeat.Ever s

Kevin stood there in his pajama shorts, with broken porcelain scattered all around his feet. Standing across from him were my parents.Autumn rushed over, grabbing him and checking him over. "Kev, are you hurt?""Kev?"Mom and Dad exchanged a look. Before they could even ask why Kevin's face had become identical to mine, they noticed the way Kevin and Autumn were holding hands. Their expressions immediately darkened."Autumn, what is the meaning of this?"Autumn was quiet for a moment. Then she gripped Kevin's hand tighter. "It's exactly what you saw and heard."Dad's chest heaved violently, and he nearly collapsed. "Have you lost your mind? How could you do this to Clark?"Mom steadied him, then turned her furious gaze on the two of them.Kevin suddenly dropped to his knees in front of my parents. "Mr. and Mrs. Ballard, this is all my fault. I'm the one who wronged Clark. I'm begging you. Please, just let us be together."Autumn hurriedly pulled him to his feet before turning
