Chapter 3

Author: Ann Chase
Due to emotional distress, Julia went into sudden labor and gave birth to a baby boy, Noah Poole. Fortunately, at nine months along, Noah was a healthy weight and didn't need to be placed in an incubator.

Isaac walked up to the hospital room, intending to step inside and demand an explanation from Julia. But before he could enter, he saw a crowd gathered around her bed.

"Thank goodness we saw the group message and heard that Julia gave birth! We rushed over as fast as we could!"

"Daniel, Julia really loves you to death. She abandoned a multi-billion-dollar business deal just to carry your child!"

"You're so lucky, Julia. After two years with Daniel, you finally have a baby together! You don't have to worry about a thing now. We've already ordered gifts and had them sent over to your house in Starry Bay!"

Holding the newborn in her arms, Julia offered a soft, tender smile. "None of this is too much for Daniel."

Standing inside the room were Julia's close friends. They chatted effortlessly with Daniel as if they had known him for years.

They had a group chat, and they seemed to know Daniel so well.

Starry Bay was supposed to be the home Isaac shared with Julia. It was an ultra-luxury estate worth tens of millions of dollars, completely out of reach for an ordinary person.

What cut Isaac deepest, though, was learning they had been together for two whole years. Two years, and he had been kept completely in the dark.

His hands clenched into tight fists at his sides. Just as he was about to push the door open, he caught sight of Daniel looking down at the woman in bed with a look of deep disappointment.

"Julia, tell me the truth. What exactly is going on between you and Isaac? Why did he call you 'honey'? Why did he say I stole you from him? If you don't make this clear right now, I'm leaving tomorrow, and I'm leaving you and Noah behind!"

A heavy silence fell over the room.

Julia helplessly settled Noah back into the cradle and explained gently, "Don't be silly. What could I possibly have to do with him? Isaac is just my ex-husband. We divorced a year ago. You're the only man I love. Otherwise, why would I ever have a child with you?"

"Is that true?"

Daniel eyed her with skepticism. "Then, why did he just talk about getting a divorce with you?"

Her friends quickly jumped in to back her up. "Daniel, how can you doubt Julia? The two of you signed the marriage certificate! We were all there to witness it! How could she lie to you?

"Isaac probably just has a terrible memory and forgot they broke up. After all, a woman as incredible as Julia isn't someone you just get over!"

"Then, why didn't you tell me sooner?" Daniel scoffed coldly. "Sounds to me like your ex did it on purpose! He's a doctor, yet he's this malicious!

"If it weren't for him, you wouldn't have gone into premature labor! Julia, I want you to have him fired from this hospital right now. And make sure he can never practice medicine again!"

Julia remained silent.

Daniel's expression darkened instantly. "You're refusing? Do you still have feelings for him? Fine, go back to him then! Julia, we're getting a divorce! I'm never seeing you or Noah again!"

"Alright, alright, I promise."

Julia wrapped her arms around him, her tone patient and sweet. "I'll take care of it right away."

Suddenly, someone spotted Isaac standing at the doorway and gasped, "Isaac! What are you doing here? Get out!"

The moment Daniel saw him, his temper flared again. "Are you trying to hurt my child now too? You're sick! Julia already divorced you, but you keep clinging to her! You're a pathetic excuse for a man!"

Isaac let out a bitter laugh at those words.

He looked up at Julia. "Julia, tell me. Are we really divorced?"

Julia kept one arm around Daniel to soothe him, while looking at Isaac with complete indifference. "Yes, we are. Isaac, it's time you accept reality."

A suffocating pain seared through the depths of his heart. As he looked at her cold, ruthless face, everything finally clicked.

It really was over between him and Julia.

Isaac replied calmly, "Don't make me hate you. If it weren't for you, none of this would've happened. Daniel wouldn't be sitting in a foreign prison right now. This is all your fault. It's time to put an end to this once and for all, don't you think?""I'm sorry." Julia truly meant it. "I never imagined Daniel would lose his mind like this. I was wrong, Isaac.""Then, just leave. Don't come looking for me again. I'm completely exhausted, and I really don't want to see you anymore."Julia said, "I've already canceled your contract. Avernia isn't for you. You should head back home. The position of Head of OB-GYN at Jerandale Hospital is still yours.""I don't want to go back." Isaac turned her down. "I've decided to stay here. The work I'm doing here actually matters.""Alright." Julia nodded softly. "I get it."She finally realized that she had lost Isaac for good and that there was no longer any place for her in his heart. It was time for her to go."I'm leaving first thing tom

A dull thud echoed through the alley as Helen collapsed instantly to the ground."How dare you ruin my plan?"Daniel scrambled up from the dirt, kicked her aside, and stomped toward Isaac. "Isaac, you're dead today. Nobody is coming to save you now!"Isaac slowly drifted back into consciousness. Seeing Daniel approaching with a rock in hand, he frowned and dragged himself up from the pavement with immense effort. "Daniel… Turn back before it's too late. Stop adding to your crimes.""Bullshit! There's no turning back for me!"Daniel raised the rock high above his head, aiming straight for Isaac.Suddenly, Helen reached out her hands and clamped tightly onto Daniel's ankle. "Dr. Howard, run!""Let go of me, you bitch!"Enraged, Daniel struck Helen several more times.Yet even as blood poured over her face, her arms remained locked around his leg like a vise.Seeing this, Isaac lunged at Daniel, and the two broke into a fierce fight."Isaac! Go to hell!" Daniel shouted."Stop

Isaac yelled, "Get off me! Don't touch me! Daniel! You can't do this! Tell them to stop!"He resisted with every ounce of strength he had left, finally inciting the temper of one of the men.The thug raised a heavy fist and slammed it into Isaac's head repeatedly until he knocked him completely unconscious.Gazing down at the passed-out man, Daniel pulled out his phone and dialed Julia's number. When Julia saw the caller ID, her first instinct was to decline the call.Yet remembering Leslie's warning, she forced herself to swipe answer. She was terrified that if Daniel had truly tracked them down to Avernia, he might try to harm Isaac."Daniel, why are you calling me?" she asked."Nothing special. Just wanted to catch up with you.""Cut the nonsense! I know you're in Avernia. What the hell do you want?""You're quite smart." Daniel chuckled darkly."I heard today is Isaac's day off, and I happened to spot him strolling through the open-air market. Coincidentally, a few of my

Morning sunlight spilled over the bustling open-air market.Isaac turned to look at the woman beside him. Her cheek was swollen and red. Julia's slap had landed with considerable force."I'm so sorry for dragging you into this," he said."You're far too polite, Dr. Howard." Helen smiled, unbothered."If it helped you out, then it was worth it. Though I can tell Ms. Gordon genuinely cares about you. Have you really never considered giving her another chance?""Cares about me?"Isaac let out a cold laugh. "If she cared about me, she wouldn't have exiled me to a place like this, let alone cheated on me during our marriage and had a child with someone else."Helen said nothing more. Her gaze fell on a silk scarf displayed at a market stall. She picked it up and draped it effortlessly around her neck. "How do I look?"Her smile was bright and radiant. Her elegant and refined face drew glances from passersby.Even Isaac found himself subtly captivated by her warmth. He nodded and a

Ever since Julia arrived in Avernia, she had been popping up out of nowhere to harass Isaac. She bought him flowers, gave him gifts, and constantly asked him out to dinner or to go shopping. No matter how many times Isaac turned her down, she refused to give up, clinging to him like a stubborn shadow he couldn't shake.Knowing her all too well, Isaac eventually stopped paying her any mind.He was bound to stay here for five years, and based on what he knew of Julia, there was no way she would last five whole years in a place like this.Sure enough, her company in Corvella soon called. "Ms. Gordon, an issue has come up at the company. We need you back to handle it.""We have a deputy CEO. Have him take care of it for now. Everything else can wait until I get back."Just as she was about to hang up, Leslie quickly added, "There's one more thing. Mr. Poole went to your house looking for you recently. After learning you had gone to Avernia, he completely vanished from Jerandale. I su

"What about you?" Isaac asked. "Why did you come here?"Helen looked soft-spoken and delicate, hardly the type one would expect to volunteer for medical aid in Avernia."To save lives and relieve suffering." Her response was somewhat cliché.Sensing that she had her own story, Isaac didn't press any further. The two ended up talking late into the night. …The next morning, as soon as Isaac arrived at the hospital, he saw Julia. She had clearly been waiting for him for a while. The moment she spotted him, a charming smile curved onto her red lips. "Good morning, Isaac. Have you had breakfast yet?""Yeah." Isaac walked right past her and headed straight toward the obstetrics department.Julia clutched her wounded abdomen and hurried to match his pace. "How about we grab lunch together?"Isaac ignored her, but she kept pestering him like a lingering shadow. Finally losing his patience, he stopped in his tracks and turned to face her. "Enough, Julia! Haven't I made myself clear
