Chapter 5

Author: Triple Threat
Irene knew exactly how much I had sacrificed for the Eurentia project, yet she still handed it to Steven to force me into backing down.

My phone buzzed with a new message from her. "You still have a chance to admit that you were wrong."

I didn't reply. I set my phone down and went to wash up.

She seemed to forget that I was the one who secured the Eurentia project. The partner didn't care about the company—they only trusted me.

After washing up, I went downstairs to grab some breakfast. When I returned, I found that all my things had been thrown out of the office.

My mug and files had been tossed out, and the signed divorce agreement was torn in half. The only thing left was the wedding photo of Irene and me, set carefully on the balcony.

Steven sat proudly in my chair, a mocking grin on his face. "Sorry, Jason. Irie already gave me this office. You can take that spot over there from now on."

He pointed smugly toward the storage room by the restroom, where water was leaking. I didn't bother responding to him and turned to look at Irene, who had stayed quiet off to the side.

She looked like she hadn't slept a wink. Her eyes were bloodshot, yet the corners of her mouth twisted into a wicked grin. "Steve is right. I've already given him the office. But if you withdraw the divorce, maybe I could—"

"No need."

I cut her off and grabbed the wedding photo from the balcony. I met Irene's slightly smug gaze and tossed the photo into the trash. "I don't need this either. You can throw it out, too."

As soon as I finished speaking, I picked up my laptop from the desk and walked out, pretending not to notice the anger burning in Irene's eyes.

It was Monday, and I was set to start my new job abroad the next day. I still needed to go back and pack my things.

I didn't attend the launch event that evening. Instead, I stayed home to conduct a final discussion with the Eurentia partner as DM Group's manager.

The moment the deal was confirmed, I received a message from Irene. "I've invited the media to livestream tonight's launch. If you still don't apologize, the Eurentia project will really have nothing to do with you."

I glanced at the message and muted the chat. It was almost time, and I had to get going to catch my flight.

At 7:00 pm, the media began to arrive. The event was being broadcast live across the city.

Steven had spent a fortune on a celebrity makeup artist and was impeccably dressed. He linked arms with Irene and smiled radiantly. Irene wore a gray skirt suit, exuding elegance, but her gaze flicked anxiously across everyone in the audience.

She wondered why I still hadn't shown up. Her initial excitement gradually gave way to anxiety, but the launch had to go on.

Irene pressed her lips together and took the microphone. "Hello everyone, I'm Irene Johnson, CEO of Johnson Corporation. Today's launch is about our company's 'Victoria' project in partnership with GK Group. This project—"

"Hold on!"

A reporter with a badge from an international financial news channel suddenly stood up. "Ms. Johnson, are you certain that it is the Victoria project?"

Irene froze. "Of course. This is our company—"

Irene's assistant rushed onto the stage and whispered frantically in her ear. "Ms. Johnson, something's wrong! Just a minute ago, DM Group issued an official statement. The Victoria project has been taken over by them, and Mr. White has joined their team."

What Irene forgot was that businesspeople cared about credibility above all else.Failing to secure the Victoria project was already a disaster. When I exposed that she had cheated on me with Steven, everything spiraled even further. Both her company's reputation and her own were ruined across the industry. No one dared to work with her anymore.…At first, Steven was full of drive, staying late to work on proposals while secretly keeping tabs on my performance overseas. But the more my career thrived, the more unbalanced and jealous he became.By the third month of Johnson Corporation's juggling of debts and its failure to make payroll, he finally snapped."Do you even know how to run a company? If this keeps up, it's only a matter of time before the company collapses. And when that happens, I can forget about being the CEO's husband. I'll probably end up begging on the streets with you!"Irene was already struggling to understand the technical terms popping up on the screen,

"I'm sorry, Jay. I didn't know what you went through. I was wrong in the past. "Please forgive me. It's my fault. You can hit me. Go ahead and hit me," Irene said, grabbing my hand and striking herself with it.Her dragging and pulling made my anger boil over, so I slapped her without hesitation and snapped, "Have you had enough of this nonsense? I'm not saying this to make you admit you were wrong. I'm telling you that it's over between us."The mango was my bottom line. You crossed it for Steven, and that means there's no chance for us anymore. Do you understand?"Yet she seemed genuinely unable to understand. She replied with immense sorrow, "So you hate me that much? You hate me enough to take the Victoria project away and ruin Johnson Corporation, the company we built together. Is that how you planned to get back at me?"I replied, "You're overthinking it. I was in charge of the Victoria project from the start. It was only natural for me to take what's mine. Stop clinging to

Irene never had to put in any effort, so how could she ever need to ask anyone for favors?I suddenly grew curious about what other cutting words might come out of her mouth, a mouth that never spoke anything kind, so I stopped trying to pull my hand away. Instead, I headed to a nearby cafe and set my stopwatch, waiting for the ten minutes I had agreed to give her."Jay, where have you been all this time? Do you have any idea how long I've been looking for you?"Irene was still the same as before, always full of sweet words. Back when I publicly took the Victoria project with me and changed jobs, even a fool could have figured out where I was, let alone her. She really stopped at nothing to show her deep affection.I sneered and glanced at my watch. "If all you're going to say is this kind of nonsense, I don't think we need to waste the next eight minutes."Irene was momentarily at a loss for words. She sulked, insisting, "Jay, there's no need for us to be so confrontational. I re

Irene's expression darkened. Then, she asked, "And what else?""And the post you made a few days ago that included a photo with Mr. Carter."The assistant's voice grew softer and softer until it was barely audible, but everyone still understood exactly what she meant. At that moment, Steven finally snapped out of his daze. He stepped out from the corner and grabbed the assistant. His voice was half questioning and half scolding. "What did you just say? That bastard Jason! Who gave him permission to do that?"Since Steven had the nerve to interfere in someone's relationship, he should have known that once it all came out, he'd be buried under the public's scorn. My post on social media had practically confirmed their affair. Then, taking the Victoria project with me wouldn't have made me seem ruthless to the public. On the contrary, they would have seen me as clever and someone who always got even.As soon as Steven finished speaking, Irene slapped him hard. The blow was so st

  • My Wife vs. a Mango… Guess Who Won?   Chapter 7

"Ms. Johnson, I heard that GK Group secured the deal because they poached a key figure from your company. Could you clarify this?" a reporter asked."Hello, Ms. Johnson. We've been told that you had a very close relationship with the former manager, Mr. White. And the man by your side, Mr. Carter, is rumored to have interfered in your relationship with him and taken his place. It even drove him to leave the company. Is that true?"The barrage of aggressive questions left Irene unable to answer. What was even more terrifying was that the questions these reporters asked, along with the rumors they knew, were not only sharp but also true. They fired off questions so quickly that Irene never even got a chance to defend herself.Besides, I handled this matter too ruthlessly. If she wanted to salvage the company's reputation, the only way was to bring me back and let me take over the Victoria project again. There was no other solution. With the help of the secretary and security, Irene

"What?"Irene stared blankly for a moment. She was stunned and unable to believe what she had heard. Everyone in the room understood exactly what an early project announcement meant, especially Irene, who had spent years navigating the business world.Steven's face went pale. That deal was worth a billion dollars. Without the Eurentia order, the company might not even be able to stay afloat, and his dream of being the CEO's husband would end after just a single day.He cast a worried look at Irene, only to see her frozen in place, unable to say a word.Irene still couldn't believe that after filing for divorce, I would be so heartless as to go this far. A crowd of reporters thrust their microphones toward her, yet she remained silent, frozen like a statue, and nearly lost her balance.I had always been tolerant of her over the years, so she never imagined I could be this ruthless now.My birthday had just passed, and for some reason, Irene suddenly remembered our first birthday c
