Mia's point of view

For the first time, Mia won the race against Tiago. Not that it had been entirely fair, but she believed she had earned points for her cleverness. And it seemed that Tiago thought so too, because his smile made it clear that she had scored points with him.

She entered the shed excited for another day of training, and again the coach told them to run twenty laps. This time, Mia kept up with Nolan and the others without difficulty, leaving a visibly irritated Diana behind.

The coach announced without hesitation:

“Today we're going to practice hand-to-hand combat.”

Diana flashed a scary smile and, looking at Mia, said:

“Hey, coach, how about a rematch? That is, if Mia wants to and isn't afraid.”
