Chapter 9: She's not humble

Chapter 9: She's not humble

Ari's POV

I was breathless….like literally out of breath.

I tried to breathe properly when I noticed her eyes were closed.

At first, she was unconscious but after a few slaps on the face, she slowly opened her eyes and coughed up water.

"Oh my God! I am alive"

"Not for long" I told her "if you lost the car keys, I will throw you back into the river" I glued my eyes on her.

It was not a joke. I was dead serious. The Black family had a thing for cars, I was inseparable with my impala, the car Storm took just as Alpha Ryan was inseparable with his Aston Martin car.

It was foolish but I know deep down that if my father was to choose between me and his car, I would be discarded in a second.

Okay! Maybe it was an exaggeration but that car would be a close second and I would be in pain for putting him in a position where he had to choose.

I glared at the girl in front of me…Aniston, I was irritated beyond reason. I could feel my wolf trying to gain consciousness and speak to me but now wasn't the time.

Not when I was in the middle of a very important threat.

"You…are n-not serious" Aniston narrowed her eyes like I was making the funniest joke of the century.

I wasn't.

I picked her up even though my lungs felt like it was lined with corrosive pebbles and I was at the risk of getting frostbite and I started walking towards the river.

"Ari! Ari!" She yelled and slapped my back repeatedly as I moved even closer.

Who am I if not a wolf of my words?

I walked briskly towards the river until I was dangerously close.

I didn't stop until I heard a jingle.

"I still have your keys, you psycho!" She yelled and struggled to be free.

I took a breath of relief.

Thank you Lord! I get to escape my father's wrath and Ani gets to keep her life, no matter how tragically short she was going to make it.

I exhaled as relief flooded my body. My actions might be drastic but until you've become Alpha Ryan's son, lived in his cold shadow and watched his eyes turn red when he is angry, you have absolutely no right to point fingers or judge or even take Aniston's side.

"Now, will you put me down?!" She demanded and slowly I placed her on her feet.

She was shivering now from the aftermath of taking an unpleasant swim in an icy river and so was I.

She dangled the keys in front of me and she tried to stop her teeth from clattering.

"You are a psychopath, Ari. You were seriously going to throw me back into the river weren't you?" She asked me.

Her honey brown eyes glittering like it had a simmering liquid on it.

I realized suddenly that she was beautiful.

I guess it was one of those things one sees if they are not carrying a dangling girl over their shoulder like a homicidal Maniac.

She couldn't be a year or two younger than me and she was pretty…really pretty with her perfect posture and wasp thin waist, her long eyelashes coupled with honey brown eyes made her look dreamy. Everything about Aniston's appearance was perfect.

I never thought I would see a girl prettier than Jennifer, my girlfriend…I mean ex-girlfriend but Aniston was.

Too bad she was a little cuckoo in the head.

"Oh my gosh! You are checking me out. You are just a regular guy aren't you, Ari? I mean, I don't blame you. I am beautiful"

I scoffed.

I see she's not humble either.

I hate those!

"Oh come on, I am beautiful in every conventional sense and you know it…it isn't a secret people try to hide from me. I am always the prettiest girl in every room and it didn't at all screw with my head" Aniston leaned closer to me and she whispered "just so you know, I am being sarcastic, I am obviously crazy but you are not a psycho or something. You weren't really going to drop me in the river, were you Ari?"

"Yes. Now, hand over the keys to me. I have got to find Storm" I demanded with an outstretched hands.

"Is that your dog?" She asked me.

"No! My brother"

she was beginning to get on my nerves.

"That's a stupid name. Are you going to tell me next, that your middle name is thunder or something?" She said and started laughing.

I blinked and looked away.

Sure, my parents had a thing for weather but it doesn't give her the right to mock me! I have a good mind to pick her up and toss her back into the river.

Aniston stopped laughing abruptly and she dimmed her eyes.

"Oh…my…God, your middle name is actually thunder!"

"It's thunderbolt actually! And it's a very nice name that commands respect" I yelled and pointed at her.

"It's stupider than Storm"

"For a girl who wants to die, you talk a lot. Give me my father's keys, Aniston!"

"I will as soon as you answer a question. Do you find me attractive?"

I kept quiet. I wasn't going to puff up her massive ego even more.

Aniston must have seen that I was in no hurry to answer her question and so, she said "Do you want your keys back? If you do then answer my question"

"Just give them to…" I tried to forcefully take the keys but she quickly placed the key in her bra.

"Hey! That belongs to my father!" I reminded her and pointed to the location of her breast.

"Then start talking" she insisted.

"You are beautiful. Now, stop messing around and give me the keys…" I started to speak but she interrupted me.

" I am cold" Aniston told me and started rubbing her palms together to stay warm.
