Chapter 3. Summer is missing

Summer jumped off the swing, she felt a sharp pain in her foot. She looked at her shoe which now had streaks of blood.

She tried to remove her shoe but it was stuck and with each tug the pain jolted up her leg.

She sat down in the dirt and placed her foot on her lap, looking at her foot with concentration.

There was something shiny underneath her shoe.

She used her nail to pull it out and to her surprise after much struggle, was a nail that had pierced through her shoe and into her foot.

The rain beat down on her as the blood gushed from her wound. She grabbed Bobby's handkerchief out of the mud and swabbed her foot with the clean side.

She rummaged through her purse and found a tampon. She carefully pulled out some wool from it and packed the hole in her foot, slipping her shoe back on.

She looked at the blood stained handkerchief and through it once more on the ground.

Taking her wolf form she galloped into town, taking her human form one alley before a motel.

Drenched, she walked into the motel foyer and booked a room. She needed some rest and her foot throbbed.

Slamming the door behind her, she went to the medicine cabinet in the bathroom and rummaged through the contents, finding a first aid kit.

She threw it on the bed and took a quick shower. She had no clothes and the only thing available was a bath robe, which she settled for.

The bed was soft and she sunk into it when she took a seat. Raising her leg she fished out the wool that she packed in her small wound.

She poured the antiseptic liquid and bit the sleeve of her gown.

Her foot felt as if it was on fire.

After placing a band aid on it, she layed in bed ,staring at the vintage White ceiling.

After an hour of crying, her eyes felt heavy and she drifted of into a deep sleep.

Summer didn't have a plan, but she knew by the morning she would have a clear mind.

The rays of sun came through the blinds and warmed her cheeks.

Still yawning ,she stretched herself out, realising she was not in her own bed.

The events of last night flooded her mind and she sat up processing everything that had happened. She felt humiliated. She would be the laughing stock of the school.

She thanked her lucky stars that she had completed her exams and was only waiting for her results which would be posted online in a week.

She didn't have to go back to school. But she also didn't want to be in her life. She wished she could trade her life to be someone else.

She took out her cellphone and looked at the time. It was eight o clock and she still didn't feel like going home. She needed somewhere to go. She didn't want to go home to her mother's advice. Although she loved her mom, she was bad at relationship advice. She had one failed marriage and every other relationship after that was like a history textbook.

The only person she could count on was her dad. Although she only visited him during the holidays, he was the more sensible party. He lived like a hundred miles away and that was far enough from this life.

Dialing his number she waited for it to connect.

"Hello, darling." The voice on the other side was warm and gave her a fuzzy feeling.

" Hi dad. I am ready to take you up on that offer. I want to come live with you." Summer said in almost tears. She knew this would break her mother's heart but she needed to do this for herself.

"Are you serious? Honey. Does your mom know?"

" Dad I am eighteen. It is my choice. But please don't tell mom. I will explain everything when I see you." Summer said desperately.

"Alright honey. I'm sending a car to pick you up. Send me your location."

" I can't . I will tell you. Please make sure it is kept private. 22 Drewstead street. Just don't ask me anymore questions. I will tell you everything when I reach."

" I will see you tonight. Someone will fetch you and take you to my private jet." Her dad replied before disconnecting.

She picked up her mud stained dress from the bed. It was dry and the only clothing she had to wear.

She got ready and checked out when the driver arrived.

" Mr Ray's daughter?" The driver asked lifting an eyebrow.

"Yes. Is there something wrong?, Summer asked.

" Oh no, nothing." He averted his gaze ,opening the car door for her.

She looked around, there were no cameras or people visible.

" The airstrip is an hour away. Please do make yourself comfortable. There are snacks in the centre console." The driver said without even looking at her in the rearview mirror.

Summer looked down at herself, she looked like a beggar but she couldn't help it. She wasn't going home to change and neither was she going to pack anything. It's better to start new, new clothes, new identity, new life.

Summer opened a packet of chips and devoured them, licking her fingers. She had not eaten since lunch yesterday and was starving.

The driver looked in his review mirror and his face contorted into a look of displeasure.

Summer did not care, she continued to open a bag of jellybeans and pour them down her throat while she stared into his eyes in the review mirror.

He obviously didn't see a hungry wolf in his life. She could sense he was a human and laughed to herself when a thought of turning into a wolf popped up in her head. She could just imagine the terrified look on his face and the fact that he might mess himself.

She had never had such thoughts before, but since last night, all sorts of bad things came to her mind.
