Chapter 4

Author: Peachy YoYo
I wasn't about to let them ruin my good mood, so I walked away.

To my surprise, Cersei followed me out of the ballroom.

She grabbed my wrist, her eyes fixed on the diamond necklace around my neck.

"Lilith, where did you get that necklace? It's pretty. There's no way you could afford it. It must be lab-grown. I'd say it's worth maybe 150 dollars. Let me wear it for a few days. You're working anyway, so it's not like you need it."

I instinctively reached for the necklace and stepped back.

Of course. Now she wanted my necklace too.

The Don had paid nearly three hundred million dollars for it at an underground auction.

It was his wedding gift for Raphael and me.

Growing up, whenever Cersei wanted something of mine, Mom and Dad made me give it to her.

Apparently, nothing had changed.

Before I could say anything, Mom lunged forward and tore the necklace from my neck.

"It isn't worth anything. Your sister wants it, so give it to her. What kind of older sister makes such a fuss over a necklace?"

The moment Mom turned to Cersei, her face softened. She carefully fastened the necklace around Cersei's neck.

"Darling, it suits you perfectly. It looks far better on you than it did on Lilith."

I swallowed my anger. The last thing I wanted was to cause a scene.

"Cersei, give it back, and I'll pretend this never happened."

Cersei scoffed, then turned toward Antonio and Dad to show off her new prize.

Dad immediately started saying how good it looked on her.

But the moment Antonio saw the necklace, his eyes widened.

"Where did you get that necklace? That's the Don's three-hundred-million-dollar wedding gift to Raphael and his bride!"

Cersei burst out laughing. "Antonio, you've got it wrong. This was Lilith's. There's no way it could be the same necklace. It's obviously a cheap fake!"

Mom quickly agreed, "She's right, Antonio. You're worrying over nothing. How could Lilith possibly own a necklace that expensive? You must be mistaken."

Antonio visibly relaxed.

Then he pulled out a stack of bills and threw them in my face.

"Cersei likes it, so I'm buying it. Here's 300 dollars. Keep the change."

The bills scattered at my feet. My face burned with humiliation.

I clenched my jaw and looked him straight in the eye.

"The necklace is not for sale!"

Cersei immediately stepped in, pretending to play peacemaker. "What? Isn't 300 dollars enough? It's just a fake. If you need money, you can borrow from us. There's no need to rip us off over some fake necklace."

Antonio gave a contemptuous laugh. "Fine. Since you're Cersei's sister, I'll give you a little more."

He threw another 300 dollars at me.

"Is that enough?"

The commotion was starting to draw a crowd.

Mom noticed everyone staring and snapped at me, "Lilith, it's a fake necklace! How dare you charge your sister such a ridiculous amount for it? 600 dollars is enough to support you and Raphael for a month. Pick up the money!"

I ignored her and kept my eyes on Cersei.

"Give the necklace back. I told you, it's not for sale!"

Antonio's face darkened. He turned to his bodyguards.

"What are you waiting for? Help Lilith pick up her money!"

Before I could get away, they grabbed both my arms and forced me to my knees to pick up the bills.

I struggled, but their grip was too strong.

"Let go of me! Antonio, when Raphael finds out what you did to me, he won't let you get away with it!"

Antonio burst out laughing. "Raphael? You mean that penniless husband of yours who opens car doors? Just because he has the same name as the Don's heir doesn't mean he has the same power. Go ahead. I'm curious to see what he'll do to me!"

He had barely finished speaking.

Dozens of armed guards stormed toward us.

Before Antonio's men could react, the guards pressed guns to their heads and forced them to their knees.

Antonio knelt among them with a gun pointed at him too.

Raphael strode toward us, his expression murderous.

Antonio turned white and stammered, "Mr. Di Lauro, y-you've misunderstood. I wasn't trying to cause trouble. I-I caught a thief who stole your diamond necklace. I was interrogating her!"

Raphael walked straight past him and gently helped me to my feet.

Then he turned to Antonio, and all the warmth vanished from his face. "A thief?"

His voice was ice-cold. "Are you calling my wife a thief?"

"I was going to pretend I knew nothing and let you walk away. But then you tried to poison Raphael and me."I opened the bottle. This is what Mom felt before you killed her! No. She must have suffered even more, because you were the child she favored for years."Cersei stopped struggling. She stopped begging. She swallowed the wine, one mouthful after another. Then she curled into a ball on the floor and waited to die.Five minutes passed. Then 10. But nothing happened.Cersei slowly looked up.Realizing she was still alive, she stumbled to her feet and stared at me."W-why? Why am I still alive? Why didn't you kill me?"I looked into her swollen, confused eyes.

I returned from my business trip.To my surprise, Cersei had already packed her things and was ready to leave. Before leaving, she'd prepared a full dinner for us.Her eyes were red as she poured each of us a glass of wine."Lilith, thank you for putting the past aside and helping Dad and me. I'd like to toast you. Raphael, thank you too for taking care of me while I was here. I promise I'll never bother either of you again."Raphael didn't even look at her. He ran a finger around the rim of his glass without saying a word.I picked up my wine and glanced at Cersei. Her hands were trembling. I decided to give her one last chance."Cersei, is there nothing else you want to say to me?"Cersei flinched as if I'd hit her.Her eyes darted nervously to Raphael, then back to me.She forced a stiff smile."Lilith, I-I have nothing else to say."I nodded and raised my glass toward Raphael.Raphael looked at me for a moment, then gave me a helpless smile. He raised his glass and gently clinked i

I was being driven across the city for work when Cersei suddenly appeared.Like a madwoman, she ran straight into the path of the Rolls-Royce Phantom. If the driver had reacted even a second later, we would've hit her head-on.He swerved, but the side of the car still clipped her and sent her crashing onto the pavement. Her calf was torn open to the bone, and blood poured down her leg.I watched silently from the back seat and felt almost nothing. She might as well have been a stranger. Even I was surprised by how calm I felt.I was about to tell my bodyguards to take her to the hospital when Cersei forced herself to her feet and threw herself across the hood. She sobbed as she tried to shout something at me.After a moment, I told the driver to roll down my window. Her desperate sobs immediately filled the car."Lilith, M-Mom had a heart attack. We found her too late. They couldn't save her! Dad owes a fortune in gambling debts. He mortgaged the house, but it still wasn't enough. The

Panic flashed across Mom's face, but she forced herself to stay calm."What do you mean? What does this have to do with Cersei?"The man said nothing. He simply snapped his fingers. His men stepped forward and dropped a stack of loan and mortgage papers in front of Mom."Your daughter lost two point four million dollars at my boss's casino. She mortgaged this house to us. Even after that, she still owes six hundred thousand dollars. You have one month to pay up. If you don't, you'll have to deal with the consequences."Mom shook her head in disbelief. With trembling hands, she flipped through the documents. Every signature was Cersei's."Impossible! T-these signatures have to be forged! Cersei would never gamble, let alone lose that kind of money!"The man had heard enough. He ordered his men to throw Mom out of the house. She hit the curb hard and lay there trembling.Mom reached for her phone to call the police, but before she could dial, Cersei rushed over and snatched it from her h

Antonio looked back and forth between Raphael and me, completely stunned."Your wife? Lilith is your wife?"Cersei didn't look worried at all. If anything, she seemed amused."Antonio, don't tell me you actually believe this. My poor brother-in-law obviously hired these people to put on another show. What are you so scared of?"Dad gave Raphael a look of disgust."Raphael, we know you just happen to have the same name as the Don's heir. Stop pretending."Mom shook her head at me in disappointment."Lilith, it's a worthless necklace. Why did you have to make such a huge scene over it? How did I ever give birth to a daughter like you?"Antonio was covered in a cold sweat. He spun around and glared at the three of them."What are you talking about? He's the Don's heir! This is Mr. Di Lauro!"Cersei stared at Raphael in disbelief. The man she had mocked as a low-level employee who opened car doors was actually the Don's heir. She didn't want to believe it.But the terror on Antonio's face
