Chapter 2

Three years later.

It was a dazzling night with luxury cars spotted at the entrance of South City’s Hilton Hotel. Reporters and their cameras swamped the place. Centurion Group was organizing a cocktail party, and they had invited South City’s business tycoons to attend. The reporters had gathered there in hopes of getting exclusives to make tomorrow’s headlines.

Around eight o’clock that evening, an impressive Maybach pulled up to the entrance.

“It’s Mr. Quimby! Mr. Quimby from Centurion Group has arrived!” The reporters immediately rushed forward with their cameras.

Zachary Quimby had donned a white suit, and he had an arrogant smile on his face when he got out of the car. Supermodel Lulu, who was wearing a gorgeous strapless evening gown, got out from the other side. Zachary reached out and held her hand as they posed for the cameras.

Yvonne was in the front passenger seat, looking at Zachary and Lulu through the car window with a briefcase in her hands. ‘Who on earth will drag their assistant to a party? Zachary Quimby must be crazy!’

Yvonne was still thinking to herself when the driver spoke up next to her, “Assistant Yates, please get out of the car! The young master will not be pleased if we’re late!”

She sighed. While grabbing onto the briefcase, she lowered her head and opened the car door.

Zachary and Lulu were almost reaching the hotel entrance. As she quickened her steps to catch up, she heard the reporters behind her gasp, “It’s Jackson Miller! Jackson Miller is here too!”

Yvonne instinctively turned her head once she heard the name ‘Jackson Miller’. A luxurious Aston Martin pulled up to the hotel’s entrance, and security guards went forward to open the doors. Jackson got out of the car, dressed in a dashing black suit. Even after three years, he was still as captivating as before.

Yvonne got lost in her thoughts. The guards proceeded to open the other side door to let Fiona out of the car. She was wearing a crimson evening gown and had a shy smile on her face as she slowly stepped out.

“Wow! What a beautiful couple!”

“Who would disagree? One is the beloved daughter of a secretary, whereas the other is the owner of a major shopping mall. They are perfect for each other!”

As the reporters were commenting out loud around her, Yvonne looked at the beautiful couple and smiled coldly. Of course, the cheating man and his mistress would be perfect for each other!

She was done looking at the disgusting couple and quickly turned back to run after Zachary. Zachary and Lulu had already gotten into the elevator. When she realized that the elevator doors were about to close, Yvonne dashed forward and used her arm to hold the doors from shutting. As she got into the elevator, Zachary snickered and said, “Assistant Yates, you seem to enjoy scaring people, don’t you?”

“Sorry!” Yvonne lowered her head and apologized.

Zachary snorted and said, “Keep up next time. If you don’t pull yourself together, you’ll get fired!”

“Yes, I understand!”

After seeing Yvonne giving in to his remarks, Zachary had no reason to lose his temper and let her off with a glare.

The elevator stopped on the eighteenth floor. Zachary wrapped his arm around Lulu’s waist and walked out of the elevator. Yvonne, still holding on to the briefcase, quickly followed them to the entrance of the hall. Zachary turned to Yvonne and said, “Wait for me in the lounge. Remember to come as soon as I call for you. Otherwise, I will deduct your bonus by half if I can’t find you!”

“Yes, sir! I understand, President Quimby.”

As she watched Zachary and Lulu walk into the hall, Yvonne let out a sigh of relief and headed toward the lounge.

The other elevator arrived on the floor, and Jackson walked out with Fiona. Jackson looked down the corridor and saw Yvonne opening the door to the lounge at the end of the hallway. He stopped. ‘Was that her? No way, she had left three years ago. How would she be here now? I must be imagining things.’

Fiona noticed that Jackson had stopped. She looked down the same corridor where Jackson was staring and could not see anything. She asked with a puzzled look, “Jackson, what are you looking at?”

“Nothing much, let’s go!”

Yvonne had waited in the lounge for more than an hour. Her stomach growled in hunger. ‘Zachary Quimby, you selfish man! You’re enjoying fine wine and good food from a high-class buffet with a gorgeous woman in your arms while your assistant starves over here! What an evil capitalist!’

She was still silently cursing Zachary when he called her. “Get yourself something to eat from the hall. Remember what I told you. Don’t go wandering around! Head back to the lounge and wait for me there once you have finished!”

“Yes, President Quimby!”

Yvonne opened the door and headed to the hall. Everyone dressed up to the nines. Yvonne only spared them a glance before she went straight for the buffet table. After getting herself a glass of juice and a plate of food, Yvonne looked for a place to sit down to eat. Before she managed to do so, there was a voice calling to her from behind. “Bring me something to eat!”
