CHAPTER 32: It ends now

Wrapped in a crimson silk robe that clung to her curves like a lover’s grip, her raven-black hair flowed down her back in carefully tousled waves. Marena didn’t look surprised. She looked smug. Like she’d caught wind of her name and came running to bask in the drama.

She sashayed into the office. She did not care that more than half of the room despised her presence.

“Oh dear,” she drawled, arching a brow as she stepped fully into the room. “Did someone say my name?”

She turned to Rea with a sickly sweet smile. A silent challenge mingling with amusement in her catty eyes.

Rea stiffened. “What are you doing here? This space is out of bounds for you. Your services are not required here,” she replied, crossing her arms under her chest.

Marena tilted her head, her smile, venom-sweet.

“It’s Nero’s house, Rea. Not yours. And besides, I came to see if the new bride had survived her first night.”

A mischievous glint sparked in her eyes. “And about what you said earli

CHAPTER 38: This is your realityThe heavy double doors of Nero’s office groaned open under Olivia’s trembling hands. She stepped inside before she could think better of it. Before fear could paralyze her again. She almost lost her courage when she remembered what happened the last time she was in his office. But this time, it was different. Lulu was safe. The chip was no longer inside her. The chip—the root of all of this. The catalyst of the cruel, chaotic spiral of her life had finally surfaced. And now, it was all over.It had to be. All she had to do was request a divorce, and go back to her life.Nero was behind his massive desk, dark brows furrowed as his amber eyes bore holes into the chip. His suit jacket was off, sleeves rolled up, veins visible on his forearms as his fingers drummed rhythmically against the polished wood. The blinds were drawn on the windows behind him casting a dusky glow across the room, slashing shadows across his sharp angular features. He didn’t look

CHAPTER 37: A ray of hopeThe sunlight that poured into the room in soft shafts, warmed the marble floor and gilded the edges of Olivia’s amimated face as she knelt beside the ornate couch, her fingers running gently through the orange fur of her beloved cat. Lulu purred in her arm. She was slow and weak, but alive, and that was enough for Olivia. Her laughter, light and almost childlike, echoed faintly as she teased the cat with the silk ribbon Elena had handed her minutes ago. For a peaceful moment, Olivia forgot everything—the weight of her new life, the fear, the loneliness, the sharp ache that had reduced to a dull throb in her injured thigh. They all faded behind the simple joy of holding something she loved. It was just like her former life. As Olivia and her pet enjoyed the other's company in reunion, Elena, seated nearby, smiled quietly as she watched the guarded smile she had become accustomed to from the young woman—but which rarely appeared crack into something real for

CHAPTER 36: The ChipNero reclined in his leather chair, a glass of iced tea swirling slowly between his fingers. The beverage was amber— the same shade as his eyes, catching the light like a glint of fire in his hand. His thoughts were tangled, his mind working faster than his body allowed him to display. The events of the past few days had been anything but typical—even by mafia standards. He could not understand why he had made certain decisions today, simply because he had seen her shed tears. He could say that he was doing it because he was playing a game with her. He told that to other people—but not himself. His phone rang.He didn’t flinch. His fingers stilled on the glass as he reached for the device and answered, a coolness in his voice as he brought it to his ear.“Speak.”“Sir,” came the voice of the vet, Dr Martine, tentative, formal, filled with deference. “I’ve completed the procedure on the cat. There was something… unusual lodged in the intestinal lining. Not organic

CHAPTER 35: Sent by the bossThe air hung heavy and stiff in the lounge, tightly weighed down by a silence too thick to ignore. Olivia sat curled up on the plush velvet settee, her arms wrapped around Lulu’s frail body. The soft whimpering of the cat, barely audible, cut deeper than blades into Olivia’s heart than any words or threats ever could. Her tears, silent at first, now ran freely down her cheeks, soaking into Lulu’s fur as if trying to pass on some of her own strength to the tiny creature. She was utterly broken by what had happened in Nero's office— the humiliation, and by the cold indifference that had dashed the little flicker of hope she had that he might help her. She thought that reuniting with her cat would bring her some peace. But now that peace was slipping away from her hands.Elena, who had just returned from supervising the maids in the kitchen, stood a short distance away, her heart aching at the sight. She hated this. She did not like watching the young girl— s

CHAPTER 34: All for LuluLulu, normally lively, and active—especially whenever she saw Olivia, nuzzled weakly into her chest, her breathing slow and shallow. Panic bloomed in her owner's stomach.“Elena,” she whispered, alarmed. “She’s not okay. Look at her. She’s not moving. Did something happen to her?”The storm of pain, and humiliation Marena had evoked in her—long forgotten, as she cradled her beloved cat with panic.Elena’s face paled. “Oh no. I did not notice that anything was wrong with her. She... she might be sick.” The housekeeper had thought that the restlessness of the cat all morning was because she was missing her owner. How wrong she had been.Olivia stroked Lulu’s fur with growing panic—especially with the weak purrs coming from her. “Has she eaten? What did she eat?” she asked, her frantic gaze flicking to Elena.“She hasn't really been feeding well the last couple of days. I thought maybe she was just adjusting to the new food.”“Can I see it? The food?”“Excuse

CHAPTER 33: The wife and the mistress Olivia stirred from sleep, releasing a gasp that had been trapped in her throat, while her fingers were clutching the edge of the duvet as though it were a lifeline. Her breath was deep, and came in short spurts as her eyes darted around her surroundings. The memory of last night clawed at her chest—the masked intruder who had tried to assassinate her, the fight she put up for her life; the cold brush of death only seconds away. Her pulse hadn’t calmed since. The weight of it all came pressing down on her, and it was as if she was living the nightmare again. Her forehead creased when she realised that she was laying down on the bed. From what she could recall, she was still crouched in the corner of the room, close to the bed when the doctor walked into the room last night. She had been almost hysterical, as he had injected her, and that was the last thing she remembered. Her eyes darted across the room, and her breath caught in her throat when
