CHAPTER 6: What is your business with Olivia?
“Is it possible that you are confusing the location of the chip?” Nico dared to ask the fuming Nero. Nero glowered at his second in command, who hardly ever questioned or doubted him, even once. “I swear to God, I will put a bullet between your eyes if you ask that question again,Nico. What do you think I am? A child?” he barked furiously and ran a hand through his lustrous inky locks in frustration. Nero was mad with rage. He had successfully secured his important chip only to lose it to a common whore. Damn it! He had let his guard down only once with his service girl, and this had happened. This was all Marena's fault. His teeth clenched, and a muscle ticked in his jaw as he thought of the pain he was going to inflict on her. But the greater pain–he was saving for that escort girl. He felt so affronted that a mere whore had deceived him, and stolen from him. As the car got closer to the cafe where he had initially met the girl, Nico still could not reconcile what was going on. The girl had not looked like a wild girl, but she had slept with Nero the first time they met. She in no way looked like a thief—but the coveted chip was missing after she left. He had checked the CCTV cameras, and no other person had access to the penthouse aside her, and she was indeed seen wearing Nero's jacket which he said he had dropped the chip in. As he looked at the face of his boss through the rearview mirror, he knew that a violent storm of terror and destruction was brewing. The dark shades that rested on his aristocratic nose shielded his striking ambers, but Nico knew that they were viciously trained on him. “We’re here,” the driver announced. Nico caught Nero's dark gaze in the mirror before they both stepped out of the car, and walked towards the small cafe. He pushed in the door, and they both walked in, to the smell of coffee, pastries and desserts. There were customers in the cafe, and they whispered amongst themselves about the two men who just entered. Nero paid no mind to the attention they were generating as his sharp eyes scanned around for the pale skin, and green eyes he remembered vividly. “What can I get for you, sirs?”a young woman asked as she approached them, a writing pad and pen in hand. “We're looking for one of your servers,” Nico replied to the girl who was throwing flirty glances and gestures at Nero who was behind him. Bad timing girl. It would keep your head on your shoulders if you stopped right now, Nico thought. The girl frowned slightly. Confused on who he was talking about–but she was also annoyed that they did not notice her, but were searching for someone else. “Which one of our servers, sir? What is the name of the person?” Nico realised that he didn’t even get her name. He never saw the need for it. “I don't know her name. But she attended to me yesterday, and also this morning.” The girl had a more confused expression on her face. She had no idea which of the few servers in the cafe they were talking about. She had only started working at the cafe earlier today, because they were suddenly short staffed. “I don't–” “Average height, probably 5ft 3, dark long wavy hair, pale skin, and jade green eyes,”Nero interrupted her in a dark voice, sharp with impatience. The girl felt a jolt of fear run through her at the danger that emanated from the adonis looking man that she had been trying to attract, and she shrunk into herself and recoiled visibly. “I don't know. I just started working here today,” she answered in a low voice. Nero almost snapped in anger. “And you were wasting our time all along?” He gritted in a low icy tone. The girl was terrified. “You can ask my boss, the owner. I'll go get her,” she replied and immediately sped off. Nico, who had calmly been watching the exchange, turned to Nero. “Calm down, boss. We will recover the chip.” “Oh I sure will,Nico. But I am going to teach that girl a lesson,” He promised darkly. An older woman approached them with a guarded, and unfriendly expression. “How may I help you?” she asked, eyeing them suspiciously. She was already wary of the talk imposing men that her staff had informed her were asking for someone. She never had any customers that looked like them in her cafe before. But she could tell they meant trouble. They looked like sinners too. “We are looking for one of your staff that has something that belongs to me,” Nero replied to the unfriendly woman before him. Her staff had already told her the description that they had given of who they were looking for, and she knew it was Olivia. Her daughter. She had awoken this morning to find that Olivia's belongings were gone, but when she arrived at her cafe, she had been informed by someone who saw them, that she had run away with that useless boy, Connor. She was so angry, and regretted ever deciding to have Olivia. Now these dangerous and sinful looking men were looking for her. “Why are you looking for that child of sin?” she barked at the young men. Nico was momentarily confused at the animosity, and bitterness in her tone, but kept a neutral face nonetheless. Nero smirked darkly at the hostile woman. Apart from his ruthlessness, intelligence, talent and skill, sharp business skills and other impressive skills, he had an uncanny ability to read people—most people though, like the woman before him. “You know who I am talking about,” He observed as he approached the woman who stood her ground—her eyes flashing with acrimony and judgement. “I don't know what business you have with Olivia, but you have to take it elsewhere. Better yet follow her and her boyfriend to wherever they ran away to. This is my place of business. It's not for social calls” Olivia. So that was her name,Nero thought. Wait a minute, did she say she ran away with her boyfriend? “Listen lady, I'm going to advise you to start talking. This Olivia, is your daughter right? Where is she?”he asked darkly. The older woman felt her back break out in cold sweat as a result of fear. The young man was very intimidating and reeked of danger. Just how was that girl connected with him? “What is your business with Olivia?” She challenged him. The young boss chuckled darkly as he stopped a few feet away from the woman. He had already deduced that she was one of those zealot religious fanatics. He slightly bent his tall frame to peer into her harsh judgemental eyes. “Well, let's just say that I just fucked her senseless earlier, and the proof of her chastity is still currently stained into my sheets right now,” he replied casually with a careless shrug, and a mad glint in his eyes. The woman's face doubled in size, and grew red with incredulity and fury, even her eyes almost bulged out of their sockets. She was shocked by his crude words, his shamelessness and impudence. “You sinner! How dare you!”she shrieked with hands balled tightly beside her. Nico shook his head at Nero’s shamelessness, crudity, and unending depravity. He was intentionally riling up the woman by recounting his obscene and immoral encounter with her daughter. It was drawing quite the attention, the entire cafe was quiet now, and all attention was on them. “Sir, I have some information for you.” Nico and Nero turned around to face a young girl who was dressed in the server's uniform. “Speak,” Nero replied, and shoved his hands in his pockets. “I know where you can find Olivia.”CHAPTER 56: Connor was poisonedThe heavy iron doors groaned as Nico pushed them open. And just as soon as he stepped into the familiar dark hole, the damp stench of the dungeon curled into Nero’s lungs, foul as a rotting corpse. He descended the stone steps with controlled strides, his hands shoving into the pockets of the sweatpants he just pulled on as he slid out of bed a few minutes ago. The feelings and memories of yesterday still lingered, as he was still wound tight inside. Every nerve in his body was raw from the events of the previous day. The brutal butchering of one of his men, the return of Olivia’s ex, and her continued attachment to him. He knew he had been rough with her last night. He should have been more gentle because of the baby. Yet what he had unleashed on her was the gentlest he could based on the way he was feeling. His jaw flexed; his hands itched for violence. He needed to break something. “Nico. Call the doctor and have him come over to check on Olivia.”
CHAPTER 55: You drive me insane,Olivia Olivia flinched at the venom in his tone, but she forced herself not to falter. “Yes. If it means saving his life, then yes.”The room fell silent. The words hung heavily between them. There were no mistakes. No misconception and no turning back. Nero threw his dark head back and laughed. Low, sharp, bitter. “Olivia. I finally see you. Not the trembling, innocent, little, religious girl that mommy dearest raised. And certainly not the meek little bird I thought I married. No. You are willing to sell yourself to me for the sake of your lover. How noble. A martyr. A fucking hero, just like him.”His laughter died, replaced by a snarl. “Do you know how that makes me feel? That you’d give me your body, not because you want me, but because of him? Do you know what that makes you?”Olivia’s tears slid faster. “I’m sorry. I don’t know what else to do—”“Shut up,” he snapped, getting up on his feet. He took slow predatory steps towards her and it too
CHAPTER 54: A coin tossed on the tableOlivia’s throat tightened. His words cut like a blade. Anything I ask? She was not dumb nor was she too dense not to read the intent in his tone. She swallowed the thick lump in her throat, wiping her sweaty palm on the fabric of her dress. She nodded. Her voice trembled. “Yes. Please. Just don’t kill him, Nero. I beg you.”A pang of fury mixed with bitterness crawled up Nero’s throat. His eyes narrowed, his silence louder than a shout. Olivia was not expecting it, when he suddenly reached out and dragged her closer by the wrist, his grip firm but not enough to hurt or bruise. His words were ice wrapped in steel. “You dare to beg for him. You dare to plead for another man before me. Not for yourself. Not for me. You fall to your knees and plead… for another man?”Olivia whimpered, but dared not to move an inch. He dragged her so close to his face again that his breath ghosted against her cheek, harsh and bitter. “Do you know what that does
CHAPTER 53: I'd do anything you askBoth women's heads snapped to the door. The air shifted.Nero.The young don stepped inside, his presence a black tide that swallowed the room whole. Nero had just returned to the compound with Nico. The anger was still rolling off him in waves. The rage of what had happened was still clinging to him. Even the shadows lurking in his eyes were sharp enough to carve flesh. The temperature in the room dropped drastically as soon as he entered.Elena stood at once, bowing her head slightly. “Don.” She walked toward the door, her hand brushing Olivia’s shoulder briefly in a silent plea for composure before leaving the room. Before she stepped through the threshold, she stopped briefly to cast Olivia a brief glance before slipping out through the door. The room descended into a heavy silence yet again.Nero ignored Olivia at first and shrugged off his coat. She shifted and squirmed uncomfortably where she was still perched on the edge of the bed, twisti
CHAPTER 52: And yet you're hereOlivia had never felt a room so cold. It wasn’t the temperature, it was the silence. Hours had passed since Connor had been brutally beaten by Nero and taken away. Hours had passed since she had no idea how he was; if he was still alive. She was no longer in the infirmary wing. No sooner had Connor been taken away, then some guards arrived with Elena and moved her back to the main house, and this time back to Nero’s bedroom.Whatever progress she made when he listened to her and let her have her own bedroom was lost. She was back to square one—locked up like a prisoner. The silence of the house was deafening. It was like a house where screams had gone unanswered. Olivia curled into the corner of the large bed, arms wrapped around her knees, rocking herself as tears slid soundlessly down her cheeks. Even in her misery, her hands were still subconsciously wrapped around her middle. She hadn't stopped crying. Every breath felt like glass in her lungs. She
CHAPTER 51: Something's not right Several men shifted uncomfortably at the mention, eyes darting to Nero as if to gauge his reaction. Some of them wondered how Nico had dared to voice that name out loud, though most, if not all of them, were thinking the same thing.Alonzo’s reign of terror had been littered by mutilated bodies and branded or marked corpses. He got off by making a public spectacle of people. Nero had killed him by his own hands before blowing up the building alongside his body.He stepped back slowly, taking off the gloves that he had put on in the car before they arrived at the scene. He looked at Nico for a long time, his lips curling into a sardonic grin.“Alonzo is dead. I killed him. I put two bullets through his skull myself, if memory serves me well. Unless the man clawed his way out of his grave and picked up a dagger, this isn’t his handiwork. And lay off the ghost theories and suspicions—Nico, unless you want me to string you up on a cross.”Nico shrugged,
