NIRELLE

I want to act as if everything is fine, but there has never been anything fine with me. I sigh as I stare at myself in the mirror. I had gotten Lucien and Theo in this mess; I must do what I have to do to get them out of it, even though it means that I have to meet up with Cassian again.

I did not know if it was because I had a crush on him that blinded me to see everything sketchy about him, but now that I look at it with a new light, I can't help but see everything that I had missed. Clarendon had been frequent at our house while I was growing up, but I was sure that it was because he worked with Enoch.

He had the same lingering gaze that Enoch always had with me but never tried anything inappropriate with me, so I would never have suspected him. His wife was never on good terms with my mom, which was extremely weird as well. I sigh and feel the light weight of the brush against my skin gently. I close my eyes and take another deep breath to steady myself.

  • NIRELLE   HALF THE TRUTH

NIRELLE"What are you sorry for? The video? It's not your fault; it was not like you knew he was going to take a video of what happened and then put it online, trying to bash us." I know that Theo was not blaming me, but that was all it sounded like to me. If I had behaved then, this would not have happened at all."I should have controlled my anger as well," he added, and I have to say that he did a good job putting his anger in check after Cassian had referred to him as a dog. I wonder if the roles had been reversed if Cassian would have been able to handle it."I am still at fault. If I had just listened instead of trying to take revenge on Lucien for being a jerk, then this wouldn't have happened." I notice how quiet Lucien is being and how comfortable I am with addressing him by his first name again."Lucien, convince her that this is not her fault," Theo said, looking at the slightly flustered man. I could not figure out what made him so flustered. He closed his eyes and nodded.

  • NIRELLE    TOO QUIET TO BE A TRAP

NIRELLEI had cried more than I thought I would. It had been a while since I let someone overwhelm me as such. Since I decided to stop letting the Thamore family feed on my pain. I knew not to cry again, especially in front of them, and as I began to learn how to suppress my emotions, it became easier to deal with them. Why did this thing with Lucien tick me off more than it was supposed to?I had seen the video of Theo with Cassian, and none of it made sense. There was no other person in the restaurant with us, and it looked as if someone had used a phone to record it and not the CCTV. That means that it had been properly created to divert attention, and this must have been done by Cassian.Who else would do such a thing? He was the only one with the power in that room, but why would he? I wanted to call him and ask why, but all I could think of was Lucien. He must be asleep, but I couldn't sleep because I was worried about what this would do to his image."Cassian had nothing to gai

  • NIRELLE   THE NIGHT THE DEAD RETURNED

LUCIENI am startled awake out of bed, sitting down and trying to calm my heartbeat in my chest. I look around the pitch-dark room before my easy fall to the bedside alarm clock. I sigh as I realise it is a few minutes past 2 am. I had fallen asleep only to be awakened by this nightmare. It had been years since I had had one. I had managed to keep away all of the triggers that caused them, but now that I had to talk to Nirelle about it, all of the memories I had thought I had overcome came flooding back.So I had not been able to overcome it? I just thought that I did. I sigh and rub the sleep out of my eyes; with this, I know I won't be able to sleep again. I take up my phone and sit facing the large window that overlooks the entire house floor with one view, and I begin to try and catch up with work. I am scrolling endlessly on social media because it is impossible for me to focus on one thing now, and it is a much-needed distraction that I need.My eyes fall on a video, and my hear

  • NIRELLE   MORALLY GREY

LUCIEN"Pick a side?" The sound of that does not sit well with me. She is not supposed to pick a side; she is supposed to be on mine no matter what. How do I tell her that even though Cassian was a teenager, he already endorsed all of the bad deeds his father and hers did? How do I tell her that Cassian knew every single atrocity her father committed against her, and all he did was hide it well?He had watched both men destroy my family over money and then swept it all under the carpet, and yet no shame at all? He knew in detail all the evil things his parents did, yet he was okay with it, and now he was ready to indulge and do all of that too."Lucien, I am not a tool for you to use; you don't own me. If you want me to help, then you need to explain it to me in a way I can understand fully."

  • NIRELLE   PICK A SIDE

NIRELLE"What do you want?" The sound of my own crying voice startles me just a bit. I look back at Theo blankly. "You did not say he was here, too. Is he here to apologise?" I ask."If I had said he was, would you have opened up?" Theo asked, and I asked myself the question multiple times before shaking my head slowly. All of this was his fault and no one else's. If he had not been a jerk to me last night, then I would not have tried to provoke him and ended up in this mess."Is he here to apologise?" I asked, feeling my throat crack a bit as the words flowed."I don't know why he is here, but I am here to apologise." I can see Lucien's discomfort at his friend not taking the initiative for him."Then only you can come in." I step aside, and Theo steps in. I try to close the door, but it won't; his body is midway in the frame, and his hand is holding t
