Adeline is sleepy therefore I escort her to one of my guest rooms and show her in then tell her to relax and enjoy her sleep. She didn't sleep well last night since Jaxon struck at three in the morning when she hadn't gotten enough sleep.

While yawning, she bids me goodbye after giving her a peck on her cheek and I carefully lock her door in a way that I can unlock it from outside and she also can unlock it from inside.

I don't want to linger around here knowing that she's in there. Therefore, I take a quick shower since I remember I haven't showered since morning and then dress up for the office. I'm not mentally fit to go to the field for training, after all that happened earlier today.

It's already past lunch but since my stomach is still full, I head straight to my office. At the Pack House's living room, I meet Debra who is already clearing the dining table and she smiles sheepishly at me. I don't know what she has in mind but let her suit herself.

In my office, I settle behind my desk and open my laptop so as to get to work. I start by checking my mail box and I go through them, replying to those that need to be replied to.

As I reply to my emails, something comes to my mind and I suddenly recall that I don't know Adeline that much, only her late parents and that they shifted to our Pack when Adeline was three years old. We accepted them to be Pack members without asking many questions and since then, they dedicated their time at the Pack and served it zealously.

Adeline's several encounters with our mother, the moon goddess makes me think deeper about her origin. Adeline isn't just a mere Omega wolf, she must be someone of a higher rank.

Ah, poor me!

I can't even remember the Pack her parents said they came from and their reason for wanting to join our Pack.

Damn it!

I hit my desk with my fist, trying to remember something but it's all in vain.

Was the fire that took their lives normal or someone inflicted it?

A lot of questions run through my mind and I can't seem to get to any valid solution.

Exhausting all my thinking avenues, I decide to close my laptop and start digging manually. I stand up from my chair, stretch and then exit my office. I ensure I lock it then head straight to the living room.

Debra is still there, cleaning the dining table as she hums to an imaginary tune. She's so engrossed into her humming such that she doesn't see me approaching.

I stand behind her for almost a minute, careful not to cut her joy short and when she lifts her head from the table, she almost jumps out of her skin.

"Alpha, you scared me! How long have you been standing there?" She asks while clutching onto her kitchen towel which she was using to clean the table.

"Less than a minute." I reply and she sighs heavily. "I'd like to ask you about something very important." I add.

"What is it, Alpha?" She appears concerned as she looks up at me. She's definitely eager to know what I am up to.

"Sit," I say to her, trying my best not to let it come out as a command, "we can't do this while standing!" I add.

Debra panics.

She's definitely wondering what she has done for me to summon her.

"Tell me everything you know or knew about Adeline's parents." I ask and she sighs heavily, maybe in relief. That's not the question she was expecting from me.

Maybe she was expecting some scolding or reprimanding.

"Not much." She states.

"Tell me the little you know." I demand eagerly.

"Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell Hesbon were Adeline's parents." She says then pauses.

"I know that part already." I say to her when he hesitates. "Which Pack were they from before joining this Pack?" I ask curiously, already running out of patience. I want to get answers as soon as possible.

"Oh, that?" She asks. "Well, they were from The Green Moon Pack but they had stayed with humans in a town in the East before deciding to join this Pack." She explains and I smile broadly. At least, we're getting somewhere.

"Why did they leave their Pack?" I'm eager to know.

"Rachael told me that they had issues with Maxwell's brother who was the Pack's Alpha, that's why they escaped."

"Oh, really?"

"Yeah. Maxwell was the Pack's Beta, even though he was older than his brother who was the Alpha. She didn't tell me more than that." Debra sighs as she winds up her explanation.

"Wait, so you mean Adeline is from an Alpha bloodline? I knew it!" I ask then say dreamily, as Debra nods in agreement. "Thank you for the information, Debra. You can leave." I excuse her and she stands up to leave, still holding her kitchen towel in her hands.

Sighing, I stand up from the dining chair and head back to my office, a lot of thoughts running through my mind.

One thing is for sure....

The fire that consumed Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell wasn't natural.

It was influenced.

It must have been ignited by someone.

Oh no!

All these thoughts are making me anxious. I don't know how I'm supposed to stop thinking about all these especially now that I know the truth about their origin.

How stupid could I have been not to bother asking the late Maxwell where they had come from and their reason for leaving their Pack?

Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!

Adeline has Alpha blood in her, that's the reason why the moon goddess favoured her that much. She must have a purpose and a task to perform in this Pack, not only as the Pack's Luna but something more.... something else.... Something I can't place a finger on!

Oh no!

I must get to work and try to find out if the fire was started by someone and if it happens to be true, I'll hunt the bastard, dig him out the hell hole that he might be hiding in.

Adeline must not find out about her origin until I am done with my investigations.

I call Debra into my office via mind link and when she arrives, I warn her not to disclose anything to Adeline and if there's anything to be disclosed to her, then I'll be the one to do it. She nods in agreement and then I release her to go back to her duties.

As I think on what to do about the fire incident, one person comes into my mind and I decide to call him to my office immediately.

Trevor!

He'll definitely help with the CCTV footage for that night because the whole Pack is well covered with CCTV cameras and I'm sure we can't miss the happenings of that fateful night.

Oh goodness!

Why didn't I think about checking out the CCTV footage before today?

Or is it because Adeline, the victims' daughter is my fated mate?

Am I this selfish?

At least I'd have acted earlier but I just don't know what came over me that made me not to check the footage!

I must be one hell of a selfish Alpha!

Wait a minute!

Could that have been the reason why mother goddess took my mate and daughter?

To teach me a lesson in humanity?

I already hate myself for being that negligent of my Pack members and their well-being!

"Trevor, you're here?" I ask as I look up when I feel some strange presence nearby. I was so engrossed in my thoughts of self blame to notice as he got into my office.

"Yes Alpha, is everything okay?" He asks as he scrutinizes me keenly. That's when I feel some wetness on my cheek as upon placing my hand on it, I wipe out some tears.

Great! Just great!

So I was crying?! This is not good at all!

"Something got into my eyes." I lie smoothly as I wipe all the traces of tears from my eyes, cheeks and the whole face in general.

"Oh, I see." He says while walking closer to my desk. " What can I do for you, Alpha?" He asks curiously.

Clearing my throat, I lean back on my chair and usher him to a nearby seat and upon settling behind one desktop, I turn to him and say, "I need the CCTV footage for the date when Mr and Mrs Maxwell Hesbon died in a fire accident at their house." I instruct him, something that makes him appear surprised, then looks at me questioningly.

"Why now Alpha? Remember it has been over a year since they died?"

"I know and that's why I want the footage to be reviewed. Is that so hard to do? Am I asking for so much from you?" I ask in an attempt to intimidate him, but he doesn't swallow my bait. He's so smart to swallow both hook and bait!

"No- no Alpha. Just give me the dates and I'll get to work immediately!" He says as he turns to the computer.

"I thought as much!" I say as I pull my diary from one of the drawers and start going through the pages.
