Scarlett had mixed feelings about attending the event for the company. She had come up with a plan to only make the meals and send her staff to attend the event, but Alex was not having it.

"You need to be there so they know that you are committed to your contract with them," he said.

"I don't think my presence would make any difference," she blurted out. "These people just want to eat, and eat they will while I get paid," she added in a bit of annoyance. It did not go unnoticed.

Alex moved closer to her and held her by the shoulders as he looked into her eyes.

"Is there a reason why you do not want to be there?" He asked her in the calmest tone he could muster.

Scarlett shifted from him and turned around. Ever since the night of the meeting when she had anticipated seeing Lucas, she had been a bit annoyed because she wanted to remember so much that it was frustrating that she had never gotten to meet him.
