“Thank you for this day,” Alexei smiled as she looked into Andrei’s eyes. Andrei drove Alexei home; their houses are not that far from each other so it is easy to take Alexei home. She was still inside Andrei’s car, she wanted to thank him before going out.

“I enjoyed, too,” Andrei smiled, “I didn’t expect that I’ll see you again and a chance to bond with you again.”

“Do you want to go out again tomorrow?” Andrei asked.

“Sure,” Alexei answered immediately and without any doubts.

“Can I have your number? So I can tell you the plans,” Andrei shyly said while scratching his nape. He was unable to look directly at Alexei.

Alexei laughed slightly before she put her hand in front of Andrei, “Give me your phone.”

Andrei put his phone on Alexei’s hand then Alexei typed her number. She gave back the phone on Andrei.

Andrei took his phone back and checked the number, He saved it and put Alexei’s name on the phone book.

Andrei texted it.

To: Alexei

Hi

When Alexei’s phone rang, indicating that someone texted, Andrei spoke.

“That’s me,” he said shyly.

Alexei smiles and saves his number on the phone.

“Thanks,” Alexei muttered before going out of Andrei’s car.

She watched Andrei drive and when the car was out of her sight, Alexei walked towards their gate and rang their doorbell.

A maid came out of the house and walked towards the gate.

As the maid opened the gate, Alexei noticed that the maid was looking at her but when she looked back, the maid avoided her gaze.

“Why are looking at me?” Alexei asked the maid, feeling a bit annoyed. The maid just shook her head before lowering down her gaze.

Alexei just continue walking on their porch area and didn’t mind it, she doesn’t want to be annoyed and ruin her mood.

When she entered the house, she saw her grandparents sitting on the sofa.

“Hi, grandma,” Alexei greeted her grandmother and walks towards them. She kissed her on her cheeks. Then she looked at his grandfather who is sitting beside her grandma.

“Hi, grandpa,” she greeted and also kissed his grandfather’s cheeks.

But inside of greeting her back, Alexei’s grandparents just stare at her.

“What’s wrong?” Alexei asked before sitting on the sofa in front of her grandparents.

“What time do you think it is?” her grandfather calmly asked but it makes Alexei nervous.

She tried to calm herself, she got her phone and look at the time. Alexei couldn’t help but to cussed inside her head when she saw that it is already 1:15 dawn.

Alexei bitted her lower lip nervously before looking at her grandparents.

“I am asking you, Alexei. What time is it?” her grandfather asked again.

“It’s 1:00 am,” Alexei answered nervously.

“Is it still the right and proper time for a woman to go home?” her grandfather’s voice was full of seriousness. Alexei couldn’t help but gulp.

“Are you always like this back when you’re still in Cagayan?” her grandfather asked again but Alexei chooses to remain silent.

“All this time your father was right?!”

“Don’t ever mention that old man!” Alexei shouted. She couldn’t help but lose her patience every time someone mentioned her father.

But she immediately felt guilty when she saw that pain was written all over his grandfather’s face. She wanted to say “sorry”, but she can’t. She was too shy to say that word to she just lowered down her gaze.

“What happened to you?” her grandmother asked, pain was obvious in her voice.

“Where is my sweet little Alexei?” her grandmother continued, meanwhile, her grandfather didn’t speak after she shouted.

Alexei felt the tears on her eyes, urging to fall. She couldn’t help but asked herself. Where was the sweet little Alexei? Where does that part of her go?

“That Alexei…” she whispered, “… was gone.”

Tears fall from her eyes. Of course, she missed her old self. She missed everything, especially the times where everything was fine.

“I can’t let you stay like that,” Alex father spoke, his voice was full of authority and seriousness.

Alexei wiped her tears as she felt the nervousness. Alexei knew, he will do something.

“You need to learn everything. From now on, you will be working on our hotel. You will start from the lowest position; as the hotel cleaner,” her grandfather said.

“W-what?” Alexei asked, unable to process what she just heard. Even her grandmother seems shocked on what her grandfather just said.

“You heard me,” her grandfather said.

Alexei breathed deeply before answering, “No.” she was determined. Never in her life she wished to work as a cleaner, especially on their own hotel.

“Do not disrespect nor oppose me on my own house. I will deprive you on your inheritance once you disagree again,” her grandfather said while pointing his fingers on her. Alexei, on the other hand, couldn’t believe on what she just heard

“Leonardo, what are you saying? What will the people say?” her grandmother asked on her grandfather.

“I don’t care about the other people, Emilia. I can’t let Alexei stay like that,” her grandfather answered,

Alexei shook her head, “You’re just like my father,” Alexei whispered. Her grandparents look at her.

“You just want to control me,” Alexei continued. She felt nothing except on pain and disappointment.

“We are not trying to control you,” her grandfather said.

“Yes, you are. And you are doing it now,” Alexei said, her voice was full of resentment.

“Do whatever you want, you want me to work on that hotel? Fine!” Alexei can’t control herself; she was being emotional.

Her grandfather seems a bit shock. Maybe because Alexei accepted his punishment immediately.

“Just like before, my mother was the only one who can understand me,” Alexei said. She saw a pain on her grandparent’s eyes, especially on her grandmother. They weren’t expecting that Alexei was going to said that, and they realize that maybe, maybe Alexei was still in pain even after how many years.

“Alexei it’s n—” her grandmother was about to said something but Alexei didn’t want to listen so she run and go upstairs, going inside her room.

She locked the door and immediately goes to bed. She covered herself with a blanket then she cried and cried.

Her day was ruined, why does she need to feel happiness for a very little time but will disappear immediately and will replaced by so much pain?

Of all people, Alexei didn’t expect that her grandparents will turn their back on her. They didn’t even ask her on what is the going on inside her mind and on what she was feeling.

Alexei cried harder when she realized that deep inside her, she was hoping that her grandparents can understand and can save her from the pain.

But all of those expectation turns into disappointment. She kept inside her mind that she had no one, except for herself.

As she gradually fell asleep, a scenario on her mind came.
