Chapter 8: When Kings Lose Control

The rain had turned into a storm.

Thunder rolled across the sky as lightning flashed above the ruined street. The wind howled between the buildings, carrying the distant echoes of monster roars from across the city.

But none of that mattered now.

Because four Reapers stood at the end of the street.

And every single one of them was staring at Ethan.

Lucian let out a long sigh.

“Well,” he said casually, “this escalated quickly.”

Raven didn’t look amused.

Her glowing blue blade flickered in the darkness as she stepped closer to Ethan.

“You can still run,” she said quietly.

Ethan stared at the approaching creatures.

“Something tells me they wouldn’t let me.”

Lucian chuckled softly.

“Correct.”

The first Reaper—the one Ethan had stopped earlier—trembled slightly.

It was still frozen in place by Ethan’s command.

But the three others were not.

They began walking forward slowly.

Silent.

Unstoppable.

Each step echoed through the empty street like a drumbeat.

Ethan felt the strange power inside his chest growing stronger.

But also… unstable.

Like a storm building inside him.

“Lucian,” Raven said quietly, “can he control them?”

Lucian studied Ethan carefully.

“Maybe.”

Ethan frowned.

“Maybe?”

Lucian shrugged.

“You just discovered your powers tonight.”

The three Reapers suddenly disappeared.

Ethan’s eyes widened.

“Where did—”

BOOM.

One appeared behind Raven.

Its claw swung toward her neck.

But Raven reacted instantly.

Her blade flashed upward, blocking the strike.

The impact sent sparks flying.

Another Reaper appeared beside Lucian.

Its claws slashed forward like blades.

Lucian leaned back slightly, dodging the attack by only a few inches.

“Rude,” he muttered.

Then he moved.

Faster than Ethan had ever seen anyone move.

Lucian’s golden eyes flared as his fist slammed into the creature’s chest.

The Reaper flew backward, smashing into the side of a building.

The wall cracked from the impact.

Across the street, the third Reaper rushed toward Ethan.

Its black eyes were empty.

Cold.

Ethan felt his heart racing.

“Stop!” he shouted again.

But this time—

Nothing happened.

The creature kept coming.

Lucian shouted from across the street.

“Your command only worked on the first one!”

“Why?!” Ethan yelled.

Lucian ducked another attack.

“Because the others weren’t focused on you yet!”

The Reaper leaped.

Ethan barely dodged as its claws tore through the pavement where he had been standing.

The ground cracked open.

Ethan stumbled backward.

“I don’t know how to fight these things!”

Raven shouted while blocking another strike.

“You don’t fight them!”

“Then what do I do?!”

Raven looked straight at him.

“You command them!”

Ethan stared at the monster rushing toward him again.

“How?!”

The Alpha Hunter suddenly roared.

The massive creature charged forward, slamming into the Reaper and knocking it away from Ethan.

The two monsters crashed into a car, crushing it instantly.

Ethan watched in shock.

“You’re helping me?”

The Alpha Hunter growled again.

But the Reaper quickly recovered.

Its claws ripped across the Hunter’s armored side.

The Alpha Hunter roared in pain.

Lucian appeared beside Ethan suddenly.

“Listen carefully,” he said.

Ethan turned to him.

“You’re the Alpha King.”

Lucian pointed toward the monsters.

“That means every creature from the other realm can feel your presence.”

Ethan’s silver eyes flickered.

“So why aren’t they obeying me?”

Lucian smiled slightly.

“Because you’re hesitating.”

The words hit Ethan harder than expected.

Lucian continued.

“Kings don’t ask.”

His golden eyes glowed brighter.

“They command.”

The Reaper fighting the Alpha Hunter suddenly threw the beast aside.

The massive creature slammed into the street.

Hard.

The Reaper turned back toward Ethan.

Lucian sighed.

“You’re out of time.”

The creature charged again

Ethan’s mind raced.

The strange voice inside him roared again.

Command them.

Ethan clenched his fists.

His silver eyes burned brighter.

“No,” he whispered.

The Reaper lunged.

Ethan raised his hand.

“I SAID—STOP!”

The world exploded with energy.

A shockwave burst from Ethan’s body.

BOOM.

The street cracked apart.

Windows shattered across nearby buildings.

Every monster in the area froze.

Not just the Reapers.

The Hunters too.

Even the Alpha Hunter lowered its massive head instantly.

Ethan’s silver eyes were blazing like stars.

The air around him vibrated with power.

Lucian stared at him with fascination.

“Well…”

He smiled slowly.

“Now that’s impressive.”

The three attacking Reapers slowly turned toward Ethan.

Their movements stiff.

Like invisible chains had wrapped around their bodies.

Ethan’s voice echoed unnaturally.

“Kneel.”

The command rolled across the street like thunder.

One by one…

The Reapers dropped to their knees.

The entire battlefield fell silent.

Even Raven stood frozen in shock.

Lucian folded his arms with a grin.

“There it is.”

Ethan’s breathing was heavy.

The power surging through his body felt overwhelming.

Unstable.

Dangerous.

Raven stepped closer slowly.

“Ethan…”

But he didn’t hear her.

The ancient voice inside him had grown louder now.

Louder than everything else.

Rule them.

Ethan’s silver eyes slowly turned toward the kneeling Reapers.

His voice dropped to a whisper.

“You tried to kill me.”

The creatures didn’t move.

Raven suddenly felt uneasy.

“Ethan… something’s wrong.”

Lucian noticed it too.

The power around Ethan was growing rapidly.

Too rapidly.

Lucian’s smile faded slightly.

“Oh…”

Ethan raised his hand again.

The street trembled.

The Reapers began shaking violently.

Raven’s eyes widened.

“He’s losing control!”

Lucian nodded calmly.

“Yes.”

Ethan’s voice echoed again.

“Maybe I should destroy you.”

The Reapers suddenly screamed.

Not with rage.

With fear.

Raven grabbed Ethan’s arm.

“Stop!”

But Ethan’s silver eyes were glowing brighter than ever.

“I can feel them,” he whispered.

Raven frowned.

“Feel what?”

Ethan slowly looked toward the dark skyline of the city.

Hundreds of distant monster roars answered again.

“They’re all waking up.”

Lucian’s golden eyes narrowed.

“Well…”

He glanced toward the dark horizon.

“That’s definitely not good.”

Ethan’s power surged again.

The air cracked like lightning around him.

And then he said something that made Raven’s blood run cold.

“They’re coming.”

Lucian raised an eyebrow.

“How many?”

Ethan’s glowing eyes stared into the distance.

“Thousands.”

The storm above the city roared louder.

Because far beyond the skyline…

Something massive had begun moving.

And every monster in the world had just heard their king awaken.

On one side stood Ethan, silver light burning in his eyes. On the other stood the Overlord, his crimson gaze calm and terrifying. Between them, the air itself seemed to vibrate. Neither king moved. But every creature in the room could feel it. The clash of rulers. Lucian exhaled slowly. “Well,” he muttered, “this is officially bad.” Raven stood beside Ethan, her blue blade glowing again. “Ethan… listen to me,” she whispered urgently. “He’s stronger than anything we’ve faced before.” But Ethan barely heard her. His eyes were locked on the Overlord. The monster who killed his parents. The Overlord stepped forward slowly. Every creature moved aside to clear his path. Even the massive Alpha Hunter lowered its head. The Overlord spoke calmly. “You look just like him.” Ethan’s fists clenched. “My father?” “

Raven grabbed Ethan’s arm. “They’ve breached the outer gate.” Lucian cracked his neck slowly, as if preparing for something entertaining. “Well,” he said casually, “this escalated quickly.” Commander Hayes’ voice roared through the intercom system. “All combat units to Sector A! Repeat, all combat units to Sector A! The creatures are inside the facility!” Gunfire erupted somewhere in the distance. Screams followed. Ethan felt his stomach tighten. The war had already reached them. Raven grabbed a weapon from the wall and tossed it toward Ethan. He caught it awkwardly. It looked like a modified rifle, heavier than anything he had used before. “You know how to use that?” she asked. Ethan stared at

NEVER ALONE Chapter 12: The Blood of a King The archive room was silent. Ethan stood in the center of the chamber, still holding the faded photograph of his parents. His hands trembled slightly. The smiling faces in the picture felt unreal. For twenty-four years he had believed he had no family. No past. No one who cared about him. But now— “They died protecting me?” Ethan asked quietly. Commander Hayes nodded. “Yes.” Raven watched Ethan carefully. She had never seen him look this shaken before. Lucian, however, seemed unusually quiet. His golden eyes were fixed on the photograph in Ethan’s hands. Ethan slowly looked up. “So let me understand this.” His voice was steady, but anger simmered beneath it. “My father was an Alpha King.” “Yes.” “My mother was human.” “Yes.” “And some monster killed them?” Hayes’ expression darkened. “The Overlord.” The name felt heavy in the air. Ethan frowned. “And this Overlord just… woke up tonight?” Lucian finally spoke.
