Chapter 14

As I rushed to the babies' room, my heart raced with double the worry. I scooped

them both into my arms, cooing softly and trying to comfort them, but their cries only seemed to intensify, echoing off the walls of the room.

"What's wrong, my darlings?" I whispered, my voice filled with concern. "Why won't you stop crying?"

But they continued to wail, their tiny bodies writhing in discomfort. Panic surged within me as I desperately searched for any sign of what could be causing their distress. And then, I saw it a faint red mark on one of their shoulder bones.

My breath caught in my throat as I gently touched the mark, my mind racing with fear and confusion. How had they gotten hurt? Was someone else here? The

thought sent a shiver down my spine, and I scanned the room frantically, my eyes darting from corner to corner in search of any sign of danger.
