Chapter 3

作者: Steam & Honey
The freezing water rushed into my nose and mouth instantly. The suffocating pressure and the biting cold merged into a terrifying, near-death panic.

I thrashed wildly, arms flailing in the air, knocking the soap dispenser and a reed diffuser bottle off the counter.

A few seconds later, she yanked my head back up.

I wheezed violently, my lungs feeling as if they were on fire. Water streamed down my face, an indistinguishable mix of tears and tap water.

"Have you learned your lesson yet?"

She kept her fist knotted in my hair, staring me down. "Still feel like playing princess?"

I looked her dead in the eye. If looks could kill, she'd have been dead a hundred times over.

"You're going to regret this," I said, biting down hard on every word. "I promise you that."

She scoffed and let her eyes drop to my soaked clothes. "Look at you, tracking water all over my floors! What a filthy, miserable mess!"

Without warning, she released me, then jabbed a finger toward a rag bunched up in the corner.

"Take them off."

I froze. "What?"

"I said take your clothes off!" the woman hissed, her eyes gleaming with malice. "How are you supposed to work in wet clothes? Strip out of those filthy rags so you don't ruin my couch and carpets. You're cleaning these floors naked. You don't get to leave until every single inch is spotless!"

"Not a chance," I said, wrapping my arms tightly around myself.

"We can do this the hard way, then!"

The woman completely snapped. She lunged at me like a lunatic, clawing wildly at my clothes.

"Get your hands off me! My dad is on his way home right now, and if you know what's good for you, you'll stop! Or my family will make you pay for this!"

I fought back as hard as I could, but the sheer difference in physical strength left me at an absolute disadvantage.

The journey home had already exhausted me. I'd only wanted to come home and get some rest.

My soaked clothes were heavy and clung uncomfortably to my skin. As she violently ripped at them, the zipper snapped, and the sound of tearing fabric echoed through the cramped bathroom.

Two more slaps cracked across my face.

My mouth was flooded with the metallic taste of blood, and I could feel that my lip had split.

My jacket hit the floor first, followed by my hoodie.

In the end, I was left shivering in the corner, stripped down to nothing but my underwear.

I could feel the chill in my bones, and the agony wasn't just physical. It was psychological, too.

I'd been pampered and protected my entire life. My grandparents cherished me deeply, and Mom and Dad had never once raised their voices at me.

My life had been smooth sailing up until this moment. I'd never once imagined that a person could be this utterly vile.

Nonetheless, the woman looked thoroughly pleased with her handiwork.

Clutching my torn clothes like trophies, she looked down at me with smug satisfaction.

"That's more like it. If you'd just listened to me from the start, you wouldn't have had to suffer through that."

She kicked my clothes aside like they were garbage, then turned and walked back out to the living room.

She tidied her slightly disheveled hair, adjusted the silk robe that was stretched taut against her heavy frame, and sank back into the couch.

Picking up her half-finished glass of red wine, she took a slow, unhurried sip.

"Pick up the pace," she barked toward the bathroom. "And don't even think about making a run for it. I've locked the front door. If you're not done by 6:00 pm, I'll get a nice photo of you and put it all over the internet so everyone can see what exactly happens to scammers."

My head was spinning badly, and my limbs felt like they belonged to someone else.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

Standing outside was a middle-aged woman in a blue utility uniform, carrying a professional toolbox. Her forehead was damp with sweat, and she looked utterly apologetic.

"Oh my goodness, I'm so, so sorry!"

She bowed repeatedly. "The highway was completely backed up, and there was nothing I could do. I'm Carol Baker from the housekeeping agency. Professor Bennett booked a window cleaning and deep clean for this afternoon. I'm really sorry for being late!"

In that instant, the air in the room seemed to freeze, and the woman on the couch stiffened.

  • New Year Homecoming: Kicked Out the Mistress   Chapter 10

Two days before New Year's Eve, I was finally discharged from the hospital. The moment I got home, a wave of familiar, comforting warmth washed over me.The house had been thoroughly cleaned. The carpet Linda had ruined was gone, replaced with a new one. Every surface had been wiped spotless, and the air carried the faint citrus scent of my favorite diffuser.Busy at work in the kitchen was a very familiar figure."Clary, you're home!"Patricia came hurrying out with her apron still on and a spatula in hand, her eyes red-rimmed. She was hardworking and genuinely kind. Unfortunately, she recently took some time off to care for her daughter-in-law, and that was the opening Dad's distant cousin had used to slip Linda into the picture.Patricia had seen the news coverage. Even with the faces blurred, she'd recognized our house immediately and known right away that I was the victim. She'd been beside herself with worry ever since, and the moment her daughter-in-law was a month into

The media side of things was even more spectacular.Mom might've been a gentle soul under normal circumstances, but the moment someone crossed her boundaries, she could be more ruthless than anyone. To make sure Linda couldn't try to flip the script on us or weaponize the media to play the victim, Mom moved first. She hired a professional PR team and worked with several media outlets to break the story, "Sadistic Housekeeper Assaults Homeowner's Daughter, Strips Her to Humiliate Her, and Steals Valuables."Every article kept my name and face out of it to protect my privacy, but they released blurred screenshots from the security footage, along with a crystal-clear shot of Linda's twisted, menacing expression. The moment the story broke, it went viral on the internet.People were furious, and netizens rushed to condemn Linda's monstrous behavior."Holy crap. Is this woman a housekeeper or a criminal?""She stripped the girl naked? That's absolutely sick!""She ought to be sever

I took the phone and clicked on WhatsApp.Our family group chat had completely blown up.While Mom and Dad were still on their way to the hospital the night before, they'd already had someone remotely pull the security footage from the house. The system was fully HD with an audio capture feature. Not only was the footage crystal clear, but every single profanity and threat Linda had hurled at me had also been captured.Grandpa sent a wall of voice messages in the group chat, a solid 60 seconds' worth lined up in a row.I clicked on one, and his voice came booming out of the speaker, loud enough to make the phone vibrate."This is absolutely outrageous! I've lived 80 long years, and I've never seen a woman so utterly vile! Derek, listen to me. Spare no expense. She needs to pay for this as severely as possible. And that cousin of yours who referred her? She's never setting foot in this house again. No contact, no support of any kind!"Granddad weighed in, too. "I've already reac

On the way to the hospital, Mom held me close the entire ride, terrified that something else might happen to me. Between wiping her own tears, she turned and shot Dad a glare in the passenger seat."Derek Bennett, let me tell you something right now. If Clary ends up with any lasting damage from this, or if I'm not happy with how you handle it, we're going to the courthouse tomorrow. I mean it. Just look at the kind of trash you brought into our home!"Dad's face went pale with fright. He wiped at his forehead, his tone apologetic and careful."Honey, please don't be mad. I swear I'm innocent here! I had no idea she was like that. But I promise you, she's going to regret every single thing she did. I won't go easy on her. Mr. Langley is already on his way. I'll see to it that she ends up behind bars!"At the hospital, they ran a full round of tests. When the doctor came back with the results, his brow was furrowed."It's an acute stress response combined with prolonged cold exposu

"Oh, Clary!"Grandma rushed over in tears and pulled off her fur coat with trembling hands, draping it over me on top of Mom's."This is outrageous! How could that horrible woman be so cruel? My poor baby. It's the dead of winter. She could've frozen you to death!"Granny was shaking so hard that she could barely stand. She was the kind of woman who volunteered at church and never raised her voice at anyone. But right now, she was pointing at Linda and letting her have it."You're a mother yourself! How could you do this? Pouring ice water and stripping her naked in this freezing weather could've killed her. People like you deserve to rot in hell!"Linda completely lost it.Glancing around the room at the crowd of wealthy, powerful people who looked ready to tear her limb from limb, she seemed to feel the full weight of what she'd done. She had figured I was some temp worker, or at worst, a naive young woman she could frighten off without much trouble. But this overwhelming s

  • New Year Homecoming: Kicked Out the Mistress   Chapter 5

Mom came charging in wearing a tailored cashmere coat, her usually flawless hair a mess from running. She stopped just inside the doorway and immediately found me huddled in the corner, soaked to the bone, and stripped down to my underwear. She saw the water pooled across the floor, my tattered hoodie, and Linda reaching out toward me."What on earth are you doing?" Mom bellowed.I'd never heard Mom raise her voice like that in my entire life. She'd always been soft-spoken with me. Mom came tearing across the room like a storm, her three-inch heels clicking against the floor. She didn't give Linda a chance to react. She didn't even set her purse down. She just pulled her arm back and swung with every ounce of strength she had.The slap rang out sharp and clear, loud enough to echo. It landed at least ten times harder than the slaps Linda had dealt me.The force of it spun Linda halfway around. She shrieked and crashed sideways into the coffee table, sending the fruit bowl sma
