The casket was empty.

There were no bones, no ashes, no cold hand to hold one last time. Just a charred gold ring recovered from a hole in the wreckage—Judah Carlstone’s wedding band. It had survived what he hadn’t. It was all they had.

The ceremony was held at the Langley headquarters—closed to the public, but dense with silence, loss, and secrets never to be told. Fedora sat motionless between her mother and Judah’s mother, her hands trembling in her lap. The twins were back in Dallas with Jenny. Too young to understand. Too innocent to carry the weight of grief.

When the director stepped forward, every eye turned.

“Agent Judah Carlstone died in active duty,” he began, voice firm but choked with reverence. “There is no recovered body. No remains to lay to rest. But what was found… was his ring. His mark of commitment. His vow.”

He opened a small velvet box on the podium and held it up. The gold was blackened in places, the inscription inside barely legible: My love, Fedora.

Jason gripped the steering wheel tighter as the Dubai skyline blurred past his window. His foot hovered between the accelerator and brake, like his thoughts—torn between pushing forward and slamming to a stop. What the hell just happened? His mind replayed the kiss. Not once. Not twice. A thousand times in the space of minutes. Fedora's lips on his. Her body trembling against his. The sound of her voice calling his name. The way her fingers had traced the shape of his face like a map she knew by heart. This isn’t normal. He had kissed women before. Slept with women before. But nothing had ever felt like that. That kiss had cracked something open inside him. A door he didn’t know existed. It was as if... as if something long dead had stirred. Or returned. How does someone fall that hard in eight weeks? he asked himself. Eight weeks. He had a fiancée. A woman he had being with for four years. Four consistent, rational, dependable years. Beauty had always been by his side. She knew his m

Jason hadn’t been himself since that night outside the gym. Since Zariah and Eliana called him Daddy. Since Fedora took his hand and told him not to mind them. His chest still burned like something real had been ripped from him.He told himself it was just the shock. The coincidence. The emotion in their tiny voices. But it lingered. Haunted him.Every time he closed his eyes, he saw their faces. Heard their cries. And Fedora’s—God—Fedora’s voice trembled as she tried to explain it all away. And then she said she was flying back to Dallas in a few days.Something in him panicked. He couldn’t name it. But it clenched, deep and primal. As though the ground beneath him would give way the moment she left.He needed air.He needed space. So on the last week of her stay in Dubai, Jason decided to drive to his getaway house to pick up a file he needed to finalize a billion-dirham deal. It had been weeks since he last touched it. Before she arrived and made the air different. He parked and wa

The sun had started its descent behind the tall silhouettes of Dubai’s skyline, casting long amber shadows across the parking lot outside the gym.Jason’s strides were wide and charged with tension, his jaw clenched, hand still wrapped firmly around Fedora’s wrist as they made their way to his car.Fedora had been silent at first—caught off guard not just by the suddenness of it all, but by the rawness in his grip, the quiet urgency that bordered on something… deeper. When they reached the car, she tugged her hand free, stepping back with narrowed eyes.“What the hell was that, Jason?” she demanded, voice low but sharp. “You don’t get to drag me out of places like I’m some possession. What are you doing?”Jason didn’t meet her eyes. Instead, he stared ahead, the muscle in his cheek ticking.“You don’t understand,” he muttered.Fedora folded her arms. “Then help me. Explain. Because to me, it looked a lot like jealousy. And I need to know why. What exactly do you think you’re doing?”H

Five weeks had passed since Fedora arrived in Dubai, and she had executed nearly 90% of the wedding plans with the precision and poise that had made her one of the most sought-after event planners in the Middle East. The grand hall was booked—an elegant glass-domed structure that overlooked the Marina skyline. The reception venue was secured, menus confirmed, vintage wines ordered, and an elite Viennese orchestra contracted for the evening performance. Every detail was falling into place.Almost too perfectly.Jason had kept his word to himself. He remained distant—professional to a fault. He skipped every dinner Fedora was invited to, deflecting with work meetings or fatigue. He delegated every wedding-related decision to Beauty or his PA. If Fedora needed approvals, they came through emails, never face-to-face.But life, as always, had its own rhythm. That morning when Jason went to the gym like his morning routine was, the gym was unusually quiet. And it was in the middle of his se

The air was still, thick with the quiet that follows secrets whispered too loudly.Jason stepped into the penthouse apartment—tall, clean, and quiet save for the soft hum of the air conditioning and the sound of a voice.A man’s voice.“…let's finish this and move on, Beauty.”Jason froze. It was faint, but unmistakable.Eric? Before he could process what he’d heard, the voice abruptly ended. Beauty—seated on the plush velvet couch, her phone pressed tightly to her ear, jerked around when she saw him.Her face drained a little of color.“Jason!” she blurted, standing quickly, slipping the phone behind her. “Why didn’t you wait for me at the hospital? I told the driver we were picking you up!”Jason shrugged off his blazer, his expression unreadable. “I don’t know… I just wanted to get out of there. That hospital smell makes me sick. I needed air.”Beauty nodded slowly, brushing a lock of hair from her face. “Right… well, next time, just let me know. I got worried.”Jason’s eyes moved

The dim glow of Eric's apartment cast long shadows on the walls as he paced, phone pressed tightly to his ear."Why are you so bent on doing this your way?" he demanded, frustration evident in his voice. "We could have finished him when our men alerted us that he was in Cuba general hospital, after saving him."Beauty's voice was calm, almost too calm. "Because, dear brother, some things are better served cold."Eric's grip tightened on the phone. "He's starting to remember.""I know what I'm doing, Eric Rivas," she replied, a hint of annoyance creeping into her tone."Are you sure you do?" Eric challenged."Yes. I'm taking my own revenge and I will serve it hot!" she smirked. "They will not know what they are walking into until it hits them!" She laughed hysterically. The silence that followed was thick with tension.Beauty Carpenter was not who she claimed to be. Born as Isabella Rivas, she was the daughter of the infamous Mexican drug lord, El Padre Rivas. Her father's empire had b
