STELLA POV

The drive to Alex’s apartment was quiet.

Alex didn’t say a word to me, and I didn’t know if he was upset with me or not. I was too scared to ask because I already knew I had become a burden in one way or another.

When we arrived at the apartment building, we quietly went upstairs. The hallway lights were dim, and the entire place was calm and silent compared to the chaos of the police station.

I slowly pushed open the twins’ bedroom door and peeked inside.

To my surprise, they were b

STELLA POVThe sun was already high in the sky when I finally stirred awake. I pushed myself into a sitting position on the foam mattress, rubbing the sleep from my eyes as I stretched my arms above my head. The covers were scattered across the bed, with one end hanging halfway to the floor."Good morning," I greeted with a yawn.No reply came.I lowered my arms and glanced around the room. Was he still asleep?I leaned slightly to peek at the floor beside the bed, but he wasn't there. The thin mattress Devon had been sleeping on for the past few days was empty, the blanket neatly folded over one end.I blinked.Where had he gone?It still baffled me that he had willingly offered to sleep on the floor. Especially after the night he had stormed out when I refused his advances. I had expected him to insist on sharing the bed, perhaps even argue with me about it, but instead, he had quietly made arrangements to sleep separately.Although I had been surprised, I had not objected. In

  • No Longer A Substitute    For Stanley

STELLA POVI stared at Tate, my eyes fixed on his face.Even in the darkness, I recognised him. The same man who had been involved in Stanley's kidnapping. So he was Stanley's father? My hands clenched at my sides as the pieces slowly came together. He had a son who went missing, and yet he had participated in kidnapping another woman's child. What kind of father would do something like that?My gaze shifted towards the direction Tate had come from. They had managed to escape before Devon and the police arrived, but I could still get him arrested. If I handed him over to the police, he could lead us to the others. More importantly, he might expose Estelle as the mastermind behind everything.A slow smile threatened to form on my lips. That was right. Devon didn't believe me. He had dismissed everything I told him about Estelle, choosing to see her as the innocent woman she pretended to be.Well, this was my chance.I could finally prove that the woman he thought so highly of wasn't th

STELLA POVI crouched down in front of him until my eyes were level with his. The ground was cold through my knees and my bad leg complained, but I stayed down. Stanley sat with his back against a tree trunk, small and thin, his arms folded over his stomach like he expected to be hit.“Yes, ma’am.” Stanley nodded.I could see the fear in his eyes as he responded. My heart thumped in my chest.I kept my voice low and steady so he would not have to be brave for me.“Did they give you a round pill?”He shook his head.“How about how you feel? Do you have a headache or does your stomach hurt after taking the injections?” I watched his face while he thought about it, the way children do when they are afraid of giving the wrong answer.“No, ma’am.” His voice cracked.“Have you seen blood coming out of your eyes, ears, or mouth?”“No, ma’am.”I frowned.I was sure Vanessa’s secret organization had kidnapped him. They must have infected him along with Mike. But how come he hadn’t taken any m

Scene TwoStella POV"So tell me about the competition. What happened?" the old man asked as he drove, taking us back to the city, back to Samantha's town. The truck smelled of oil. Nobody had spoken since we left the competition. The old woman was asleep against the door, and the fields went past the window one after another."What happened is that my wife still has such a beautiful voice," Devon said, glancing back at me from the front seat. He had a proud smile on his face.I looked at the back of his head and said nothing. He was pleased with himself and he did not try to hide it."What happened is that after my song was done, the protesters came out, and the whole place was filled with crying parents. The cops were overwhelmed, and they had to officially give their word that they would drop all the cases and start investigating the disappearance of the missing children," I helped explain. "The reporters also had personal interviews with the parents about the case, so I don't thin

She went to meet with her parents, who lead her towards her fiance."Oh Mr Hamilton we're so happy that our family will soon be united. Oh sorry I shouldn't call you that, son-in-law." Her mother said with a little giggle. The sound of the word "son-in-law" made Athena cringe, right there it dawned on her that she was engaged and not the kind of engagement every woman would love to have.No proposal, only a trick that her mother played to get her here from school and marry their biggest investor and she was meeting him at their already arranged engagement party."Ms Scott I'm pleased to meet you." Mr Hamilton said while implanting a kiss on the hands of Athena. She smiled politely at him and lean towards him to give him a peck on the cheek. This was what she thought she was supposed to do since they were engaged. He smiled at Athena and she felt warm inside for an unknown reason. His fine lips screamed to her to be kissed. She was sure girls would be lining up to get a feel on those l

The plane finally landed, when she was done getting all her stuff she checked if someone was waiting to pick her up.There was still a five percent probability which made her hope a little but that wasn't a good enough reason for her to stay and wait in case someone was coming and is late. When she saw others picking up their loved ones and no one was there for her, she quickly regained herself. She pushed away the little hurt she felt."Foolish woman, I wonder what's going on inside my head sometimes." She said to herself. She sighed and left the airport and got into a cab.She dialed her mother's number and she picked after five rings."Hello mother." She greeted."Have you land?" Her mother asked from the other end."Yes.""Alright, use a bus and come." Her mother ordered."A bus? Why a bus?" She asked."Umm there's an issue, we need to save as much as possible for the hospital bills... So umm get into a bus, it's cheaper so long as you're not walking here." Mrs Scott replied.Save
