Lucy’s POV

I called Amanda and she answered immediately. My hand was shaking so badly I nearly dropped the phone.

“Lucy?” Her voice was soft, concerned.

I didn’t answer right away. I just stood there on the sidewalk, trying to swallow the storm rising in my throat. An anxiety was well on its way and I had to take deep breaths to stop it.

“I need to talk. Can I come over?” I finally asked, my voice desperate and breaking.

Amanda went quiet for a moment. “Lucy? What-are you alright?”

“Amanda, I-I just really need someone right now-a friend.” I croaked, unable to hide my devastation anymore.

“Of course. Come now.” she said without hesitation.

When I arrived, she didn’t ask anything. She just opened the door and pulled me into a hug.

“Oh, Lucy…”

I let her hold me because I needed it. She guided me to the couch. She helped me sit down and handed me a glass of water. I drank slowly, my mind spinning.

She sat beside me waiting patiently. I looked away, struggling to make sense of eve

Alaric’s POVYou could cut the tension between Lucy and Livia with a knife. “Well, I should get going,” Lucy said, her gaze never leaving mine after the finality in those words she’d said.Waiting for the ink to dry. Those words were clearly meant for me.“You all have a good night.” she said and left with her assistant in tow.“We should get going as well,” I quickly added. “I hope that we could discuss potential business endeavors further at your discretion Mr. Locke.” He nodded, but I could see the reluctance in his stance as he did. When Livia and I started off, he grabbed my arm.“Mr. Kingsley,” he said. “Word of advice.” “I’m listening.”“You might want to rethink the company you keep when it comes to women. Because that one right there, has no substance.” He gave me his card. “We’ll talk. Thanks to your soon-to-be ex-wife.” he walked off. “And leave the Simmons girl at home, will ya?” I walked out of the building, experiencing a tornado of emotions-most of them negative. Fl

  • No Longer His Ugly Wife   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED & FIFTEEN

Lucy’s POVAfter the mishap in the kitchen, I didn’t have time to show my face again among the party goers. Honestly, I’d have preferred it that way.Crowds were never my thing, and making sure that this night went smoothly was what really mattered to me.Besides, it was best that I not see Alaric again. He never made it easy seeing him.“Ms. Whitmore?” One of my employees approached from behind. “We’re done for the night. Everything is gone and the partygoers are finally departing for the evening. There’s still enough to satiate the ones lingering behind and we’ve left a gift package for the CEO and COO as you requested.”“Thank you so much. Good job everyone. You’ve done such an amazing job tonight. And for that, I’m giving you the next two days off with pay.”The room erupted with excitement and gratitude before the room dispersed and everyone went home for the evening.I stayed back to make sure that everything was left the same way that it was when we came.“Ms. Whitmore?” “Hey,

  • No Longer His Ugly Wife   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED & FOURTEEN

Alaric’s POVShe was wearing an elegant, yet sensible black dress, her hair tucked back into a neat bun with tendrils to the side and in her face. “Alaric?” The expression on her face was surprised, but I wasn’t sure whether it was pleasant or unpleasant. We were going through a divorce after all. “Lucy, what are you doing here?” “Working,” she chuckled bashfully, her hand moving slightly. It was then that I noticed the tablet in her hand. “You-” I looked around. “You’re working the Locke Gala?” I asked.“Don’t seem so surprised,” she chuckled. “I-I’m sorry,” I laughed. “That came out wrong. I-I just mean…you work fast.” Before I knew it, I was standing barely a foot away from her. “This is amazing. Congratulations!”She smiled.”Thank you.” Lucy looked around. “Yeah, one of his higher ups is a regular of mine. He brought his boss a treat and it was smooth sailing from there,” she shrugged. “In fact, he’s thinking of adding my company as a permanent fixture at their events.”Lucy l

Alaric’s POV“So, how has the divorce proceedings been going?” My father asked. He’d been in and out of my office for the last month and a half. It was clear that the man was up to something. Or at least that he didn’t trust me.“Fine,” I answered in short. He laughed, and poured himself a glass of bourbon. “Then why haven’t I seen any news of it in the media?” He faced me with a suspicious glint in his eye.I paused what I was doing. “I’d think that there would be more important things on your mind than my marital status.” What I said visibly upset him as he slammed his glass onto my desk. “It does when our business hangs in the balance of it all.” “And I’ve told you time and again that I have it handled,” I retorted. “Really?” My father crossed his arms, eyeing me challengingly. “Because it doesn’t seem like much of anything has been handled.” He cut his eyes, clearly irate. “I’m beginning to wonder if I shouldn’t sign over the shares to your sister.” I scoffed. He didn’t like t

Niki’s POVThinking about the hurt and aggression in Alaric’s voice still weighed heavy on me. Remembering the look of anguish in his eyes and the fact that I was the root cause of it was hurtful. “Earth to Niki, hello?” Livia’s voice rang through my ears in a sing-song voice, laced with annoyance. I bashfully snapped out of my reverie. “Sorry, just-got distracted for a sec.” I walked over to the wedding dress at the far end of the bridal shop, hoping to avoid further conversation on the subject. “Clearly,” she murmured impatiently. “It better be about how beautiful this wedding is going to be.” I sighed. Of course it wasn’t, but I wasn’t going to tell her that. “Yea, sure.” “Yeah? Sure?” she stopped next to me, her hands on her hips, frowning. “What is going on with you? Everything is literally going better than we could have ever imagined, and now you’re standing here frowning and angsty? What the hell is wrong with you?” she spat, while casually picking up an insanely expens

Alaric’s POVI was devastated. I couldn’t think, I couldn’t sleep. I could barely eat since Lucy decided to leave me.And as if I needed further insult to injury on top of divorce proceedings, the business was still suffering. “Alaric,” Ray, came into my office. “What is it now?” I hissed. “If it’s about anything concerning another partner pulling out, or some financial discrepancy rumor, I can reassure you that I’m not in the mood for it.”“Well, it’s not about that.” I dropped the files that I was reading on my desk and looked at Ray, the exhaustion of my trials and tribulations clearly playing out like a story on my face.“I just can’t take any more bad news right now, Ray.” I expressed, taking a moment to be vulnerable with my friend. He exhaled. “I know. And I’m sorry about all that you’re going through.” His face then tuned up in a way along the lines between hesitation and hope. “What I’m about to tell you could be considered a good thing if you look at it a certain way.” “
