Se connecterCASTIEL CROWE POV
"You are a very strange girl, do you know that?"
Alpha Castiel Crowe covers my mouth with his heavy palm right away. His eyes look very dark. "Be quiet! Most girls scream when they fall. You stay completely silent when you fall, but now you scream just because I am holding you!"
"You... you need to let me go first."
My words come out broken. Castiel smiles a mean smile. "Did you really scream just because my hands are on your body?" He looks down at my face, and his eyebrows twitch. "Hey, little wolf, has a male ever held you like this before?"
He thinks my fear is a big game. He looks at my red ears and decides to be cruel. His big arms squeeze my middle even tighter.
Gasp!
My face burns hot. Castiel looks at me like he just found a strange new toy in the woods. He thinks it is funny that a girl still blushes when an Alpha touches her waist. He looks very excited.
He pulls me close to his chest and pinches my skin through my big clothes. He forgets all his noble alpha manners. His long fingers slide right under the edge of my thick shirt. His hand touches my bare skin, and he stops moving. His eyes look shocked.
"What are you doing to me?"
I use all my strength to push his chest away. Castiel just stares at his own fingers. "Your middle... it is too small." He does not even know what to say to me.
He is a powerful prince of the Noble Moonborn Families. He has many beautiful Luna Court Maidens and top female wolves in his bed. But my waist is thinner than any girl he has ever seen. I am so small that his one big hand can almost go all the way around my bones.
"You..." His mouth opens and closes. He looks at my thick clothes, then he looks at the big pain in my eyes. He sees that I am trying to act strong even though I am terrified.
He just stands there. Many years later, Castiel Crowe will still talk about my face at this moment. He cannot understand how a wolf can look so broken and so proud at the same time.
I push him away hard and run down the dark steps. My bad leg hurts too much, and I trip after three steps. I fall right on the stones. I do not care about the pain. I pull myself up using the wall and drag my body away from him as fast as I can.
My head feels crazy. My biggest secret is out.
After leaving the Ironfang Prison Keep, I only want a quiet life. I want to eat my food, have a safe bed in the barracks, and work hard. I want to save some coins to visit the blue waters of the Silvermoon Territory. I want to see the clear sky far away from the rogue cells.
I cannot survive another pack war.
Castiel tries to walk after me to help, but every time his boots make a sound, I drag my body faster against the wall. I am panting and scared.
He stops walking so I can get away.
"Please, I do not want to do this!"
I push open the door of Room 606 and hear a crying voice. The room is very dark. Several noble Alphas are sitting on the big soft chairs with barmaids in their laps.
Only one young girl stands by the crystal table.
It is Bela Talbot. She is a young pack scholar from the Lunar Crest Academy who works here to get coins. She lives in the same dorm room as me.
"Rowena..." Bela looks at me, and tears come out of her eyes.
Every single Alpha in the room turns to look at me. I lower my head fast. "I am the cleaner," I say in my rough, broken voice.
The men make angry faces because my throat sounds so ugly.
I know my place. I just need to keep my mouth shut and do my job. I am a nameless criminal, so nobody will bother me if I stay quiet. But Bela is in big trouble, and my presence might make things worse.
I walk past her with my head down. I go into the small bathroom and grab my bucket and my mop.
I start cleaning the floor right away. I pretend I do not see Bela's wet eyes begging me for help.
The prison cells taught me to never get involved in other wolves' problems. If these high Alphas get mad, they can kill me, and nobody will care.
I am not like Bela. Bela has a family and a school. I am just a banished wolf from the cells. I have no power to save anyone.
"Sing the pack song for us, and then you can leave the room," a big Alpha says from the couch.
I look up for one second. Bela bites her lip like she is being tortured. "I will not..."
My hands shake. I push my mop too fast, and it hits Bela's shoes. Thud.
Bela stops talking and looks down at me in surprise.
I keep my head down and whisper, "I am sorry. I dirtied your feet."
I try to break the tension, but the Alphas on the sofa notice us.
Bela gets brave and yells at the man, "I am just a waitress who brings water! I am not a tavern singer!"
I feel sick inside. I should not have tried to help her.
Bela is making a big mistake. You cannot disrespect the playboys of the noble families. They own this whole territory.
They just think she is pretty and pure, so they want a song. If she just sings the words and leaves, they will let her go. But she is fighting them.
I need to clean this floor fast and run out the door. If the guests get mad at me for messing with their game, I will be back in a cage.
"You do not want to sing?" A mean, laughing voice comes from the dark corner. "Fine. If you drink that whole bottle of strong wine on the table, you can go home."
"I do not drink! I am not a barmaid!"
"Hahaha! You do not drink?" The mean Alpha stands up. "When you work inside the Bloodmoon Gathering Hall, it does not matter if you are a waitress or a floor cleaner. When an Alpha tells you to do something, you obey."
My stomach drops when he says the word cleaner. A horrible feeling goes through my body.
The big Alpha steps out of the shadow and looks right at me.
“Stop digging.”Mara froze with the shovel halfway into the ground, she looked up at Rowena.“What?”“Put it down.”There was something in Rowena’s voice that made Mara obey without arguing. She slowly released the shovel.Around them, the Moonfang Barracks was alive with movement. Wolves carried stones toward the unfinished wall, others hammered wooden supports into the earth. A few women were repairing the old watchtower while the youngest wolves hauled bundles of branches toward the construction site. Everything had been moving smoothly, until now. Rowena walked past Mara and crouched near the edge of the clearing. Mara followed.“What did you see?”“Tracks.”“Whose?”“I don't know.”Rowena touched the soil. Four paw prints sat between the trees, partly hidden beneath fallen leaves. They were fresh, too fresh. Mara swallowed, “There were no wolves here when we started this morning.”Rowena looked toward the forest.“How sure are you?”“I checked the eastern side twice.”“And?”“N
“Then build your own walls.”The courtyard went silent, Aldric stared at me as if I had lost my mind. One of the elders actually laughed, “You cannot be serious.”“I am.”“You want Moonfang to build defensive walls without Alpha Dominion resources?”“Yes.”“That is impossible.”I looked toward the half-repaired barracks.“Good.”The elder's face hardened.“Alpha Rowena, this is not a game.”“I know.”“You are asking an entire territory to defend itself without the resources allocated to it.”“I am asking you to prove you can protect the wolves you claim to lead.”Aldric stepped forward, “Rowena, Moonfang has never built its own defensive perimeter.”“Then it's time.”“We don't have enough stone.”“Find some.&rdquo
“You came three years too late.”The words stopped the Moonfang elders at the entrance of the barracks, they had arrived at sunrise. Six elders stood in the snow, dressed in ceremonial Moonfang robes. Behind them stood four warriors carrying the banners of the pack and at the center was Alpha Aldric Moonfang. My father!.I hadn't seen him since the day he stood before the council and said he didn't know me. Now he stood in front of my barracks as if the past could be crossed like a bridge. Our eyes met; for several seconds neither of us moved. Then Aldric stepped forward.“Rowena.”I said nothing, he lowered himself to one knee the elders followed. Every one of them bowed their heads, the women behind me went silent. Mara looked at me, I kept my eyes on my father, “What are you doing?”Aldric's voice was low, “Recognizing our Alpha.”Something inside me hardened, “I am not your Alpha.”“You are Moonfang blood.”“I know what my blood is.”“You are the rightful Alpha of this pack.”I al
“Nobody is sleeping in that building until I know the roof won't kill them.”Mara looked up at the abandoned structure.“You're serious?”“I didn't come all the way here to admire it.”The old military barracks stood beyond the cottage, half swallowed by weeds and years of neglect. Its stone walls were cracked, several doors had rotted away, and the roof sagged over one side. It was ugly, damaged and exactly what we needed. I walked through the entrance, dust covered the floor, broken bunks leaned against the walls, rusted weapons racks lined the corridor, empty except for cobwebs.“This place hasn't been used in years,” Mara said.“Then we'll give it a reason to stand.”By noon, everyone was working. The women who had arrived at the cottage helped clear debris. Mara dragged broken boards outside, the older women scrubbed the sleeping quarters. I climbed onto the roof and replaced loose timber with whatever usable wood we could find. Nobody had assigned me the work. I simply did it, t
“Please don’t make me leave.”The voice came from outside my door. I froze, my fingers tightening around the knife I had found on the table the night before. For a moment, I listened. No footsteps, no growl. Just the wind moving through the trees, then came a soft knock.“Who are you?”“My name is Mara.”“What do you want?”“I need somewhere to stay.”“Why?”“Because I have nowhere else.”I moved closer to the door and opened it, a young woman stood in the snow. She looked exhausted, her dark hair was tangled, her clothes were torn, and one sleeve was stained with mud. A fresh cut crossed her cheek. She was barefoot, with strips of cloth wrapped around her feet. But it was the mark on her neck that held my attention. The black scar of banishment, she noticed me staring.“I know what you're thinking.”“I have
“If this place falls down tonight, at least nobody will be here to hear it.”I pushed the crooked door open with my shoulder, it groaned. A cloud of dust dropped from the frame and landed in my hair. I stood there for a moment, staring into the darkness.“Crescent Moon Cottage”. My new home. It was worse than I remembered, the roof sagged above the main room. Two windowpanes were missing, the fireplace was filled with old ash, and the wooden floor complained beneath every step. One wall had a crack running from the ceiling almost to the ground.I looked around.“Wonderful.”For the first time in a long time, nobody was waiting for me to behave like a Luna. Nobody was watching, nobody was taking notes, nobody was deciding what I was allowed to do. I dropped my small bag beside the fireplace, “This will do.”The cottage sat on the far edge of old Moonfang territory, beyond the main settlement and close enough to the forest that wolves rarely came this way. It had been abandoned for yea
ROWENA MOONFANG POV"Hey, Rowena! Move your lazy feet and get up to the sixth floor, VIP Room, QT Wolfe! The door of my tiny cleaning stall bangs open. An ambitious young wolf glares at me and taps her foot. "Hurry up! Even the top Luna Court Maidens do not make people wait as you do!"I do not say
ROWENA MOONFANG POV"Step out of the Ironfang Prison Keep right now and do not look back."The iron gates made a loud screeching sound as they opened up. I walked past the stone walls very slowly. My old white dress felt too big for me, hanging like an old piece of cloth. It was the same clothes I
DEAN BLACKWOLF POV"Are you still trying to act proud, Rowena? You think your high bloodline makes you special here?"My voice hits her hard. I take her chin in my grip and twist. I want to smash her bone. She gasps. Her eyes get wide and wet."Stop, Dean! You are hurting me!"I squeeze harder. I d
ROWENA MOONFANG POV“I didn’t do it! Why won’t you believe me?” My hands kept shaking while I gripped the wet glass of the pack transport. Rain hammered down, so loud I could barely hear myself think. I caught a glimpse of Dean’s face inside, sharp and terrifying. Mud squelched under my feet. I sh
