"Yes."

I set down my fork, meeting Enzo's bloodshot gaze without flinching. "It's called Ross Investment Consulting. I incorporated it in Los Angeles with five million dollars in seed money."

The room fell dead silent. The only sound was the faint sway of the crystal chandeliers.

Stella beamed. "See? I wasn't wrong. Her office is in the financial district in Beverly Hills. I hear it's beautifully decorated."

Enzo's mother stared at me in shock. "Vivian, you… when did you…"

"Three months ago," I answered calmly. "After I left New York."

Enzo shot to his feet, the chair scraping harshly against the floor. His hands were clenched into fists, knuckles white.

"You betrayed the family."

"Betrayal?" I stood up as well. "I simply changed jobs. Get your facts straight, Enzo. I was your financial consultant. An employee. And when my contract was up, I chose not to renew. It's that simple."

Enzo laughed, a harsh, humorless sound. "A contract? Vivian, you think what we had was just a contract?"

"Thank you for your concern, Mr. Moretti," I said with a small smile. "But I don't need you to manage my love life."Enzo's face turned to stone. "Vivian…""It's getting late. I should be getting back to my room." I cut him off, turning to head back inside. Behind me, I heard the sound of a glass shattering. But I didn't look back.Three days later, I was back in Los Angeles. Warm sun, clean air. And Leo's gentle embrace."I missed you like crazy," he said, holding me tight at the airport. "How was New York?""It was fine," I answered with a smile. "Just a few people who don't know when to quit."Leo frowned. "What do you mean?""Nothing important," I said, kissing his lips.A week later, Leo made a reservation at our favorite Italian restaurant. Bella Vista, perched on a hill in Beverly Hills, overlooked the entire city skyline. We came here often. The owner always gave us the best table by the window. But tonight was different."Good evening, welcome to Bella Vista." The host at the

I was finally back in Los Angeles."Vivian, you look so much better," Mia said, holding a glass of champagne on the balcony of my LA apartment. The California Christmas sun streamed through the glass doors, warm and inviting."Really?" I put down the financial report I was reading. "It's probably because there's no snow here. And no darkness.""And no Enzo," she added with a pointed look. She raised her glass. "To your new life."The clink of crystal echoed in the air."On that note," Mia's expression suddenly turned serious. "Things are pretty bad back in New York.""I don't want to hear it," I cut her off quickly."V, I think you should know this. Enzo and Stella's alliance is over."My hand paused. "When did that happen?""About a month ago," Mia said, lowering her voice. "I heard Stella's father found out Enzo was just using her and pulled out of all their deals. Now Enzo's gone off the deep end. To put it mildly, he's more volatile than ever."Mia shook her head. "Last week, he ma

Under the ballroom's crystal chandeliers, all eyes were on me. Whispers rippled through the crowd."Isn't that Vivian Ross? Why is she with the Don?""I thought she was throwing a fit.""I heard the Boss and Stella have been fighting because of her."I straightened my back, my expression unreadable as I followed Don Romano to a corner table. Their gossip had nothing to do with me."Relax, child," Uncle Romano said, handing me a glass of champagne.I nodded, my gaze sweeping across the room. Enzo held court at the head table, Stella plastered to his side. Her hand never strayed far from his arm, flashing her signature smile for any cameras. The perfect power couple."I need some air." I couldn't watch anymore. I turned and walked out to the terrace. The night air was cold. The lights of Manhattan twinkled below, a constellation map spilled across the darkness. I once thought I was a part of this world. Now I knew that I was, and always had been, an outsider."Boss, are you sure you want

After hanging up, I stared at the blocked number, a cold smile touching my lips.Threaten me? Did he really think a different number would scare me?He would never learn. Some people can't be threatened. Especially not those who have nothing left to lose. Two days later, a text from Mia.[Your ex-boss is imploding. I heard the board is calling an emergency meeting to question his leadership.][Without you, the Moretti financial system has completely collapsed.]I put down my phone and went back to managing a client's portfolio. The warm Los Angeles sun streamed through the window onto my desk. Here, there was no darkness, no blood, no hidden agendas. Only clean numbers and legal profits.Back in New York, the Moretti family's financial crisis was escalating."Boss, the board is demanding an emergency meeting," Marco's voice came through the phone, laced with anxiety. "They said if this month's financials aren't balanced, they're going to reconsider your position as Don."Enzo slammed h

"Congratulations, Ms. Ross."The lawyer slid a thick stack of documents across the desk toward me."Your financial consulting firm is officially incorporated."The Los Angeles sun streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a warm glow on my brand-new desk. For the first time in months, a fractured piece of my heart began to knit itself back together.Everything was new.My company, my identity, my life.I threw myself into my work, a deliberate choice. The new firm had to be built from the ground up—finding an office, hiring staff, building a client base. I packed my days from dawn to dusk, leaving no space for my thoughts to stray. And I certainly didn't go looking for news about Enzo. But Mia, as always, took it upon herself to keep me "kindly" informed of the latest gossip from New York's underworld."Your ex-boss has been pretty high-profile lately.""Look at this. He's making headlines again."I hesitated for a few seconds before clicking the link. The entertainment se
