Chapter 4

Author: Clear Dreams
Candice stood in the doorway with one side of her face still swollen.

She walked right in and sat down on the edge of my bed.

"Did you know that before you graduated, you actually received an offer to stay at the academy?

"They thought your grades were excellent and wanted to hire you as an instructor."

I abruptly looked up.

"But Eric kept the offer a secret."

She tilted her head and looked at me with undisguised gloating. I could tell there was a hint of jealousy.

"The academy's invitation was sent directly to the pack. He never even let you see it before turning it down."

I froze as memories suddenly flooded back.

I still recalled telling Eric during our final year that I wanted to earn a position as an instructor at the academy.

I wanted to train more warriors for the kingdom.

That way, I could also have more confidence when I eventually became his Luna.

He had stroked my hair and joked that he would wait for me to become his greatest support someday.

I had thought that with my grades, I would definitely get the position.

But in the end, it went to a classmate who wasn't as good as me.

I had been disappointed for a long time. Eric was the one who accompanied me to the frozen wasteland to clear my head. He told me that I would always be the best.

He told me to learn to rely on him because he could support me.

It was also during that trip that we were caught in an avalanche, and Eric nearly lost his life saving me.

In my previous life, I received my mentor's invitation only a month before the marking ceremony.

So I turned it down.

In reality, if Eric hadn't wanted me to stay at the academy, he could have simply told me.

If he had talked to me about it properly, I might have rejected the offer for his sake.

It was just as I had chosen to do in my previous life.

But he had no right to make decisions about my future without my knowledge.

Seeing my pale face, Candice smiled triumphantly before leaving the room.

I sat on the bed without moving. It wasn't until the sky gradually turned bright that I realized dawn had come.

Eric entered with a tray of breakfast and carefully arranged everything for me.

"Why?"

He turned to look at me in confusion.

"What?"

"Why did you make that decision for me? Why didn't you tell me I had received an offer from the academy?"

Eric fell silent.

After a long while, he finally spoke.

"Evelyn, you have to believe me. Everything I did was because I love you."

"Love me?"

I almost laughed out loud.

"You call it love when you were sleeping with another shewolf while you were with me?

"You call it love when you wanted me to raise the pup you had with another shewolf?

"You call it love when you ruined my life?

"Eric."

I stared straight into his eyes.

"If all that's true, then your love is truly evil."

Eric clenched his fists before forcing himself to suppress his emotions.

"Evelyn, you're too emotional right now. You need to calm down.

"I've already prepared for the marking ceremony. It's scheduled for the day after tomorrow.

"I hope you can forget all of this, and we can go back to the way things were. What do you say?"

He paused before adding, "I've already notified all your relatives and friends. If you don't show up, your parents will be humiliated."

His tone then softened again.

"Evelyn, I've prepared a surprise for you at the ceremony. Can we start over?"

I looked at his face and closed my eyes.

"Get out."

Eric stood up and looked at me for a moment before turning around and leaving.

Click.

The door was locked from the outside.

I opened my eyes and immediately called my parents.

I told them what I planned to do next and instructed them not to listen to Eric.

He had acted first and informed them afterward, and now he wanted to use my parents to threaten me?

There was no way I would let that happen.

That evening, I climbed out the window and left the villa. I then boarded the train to the academy.

As I watched the lights outside the window fade into the distance, I closed my eyes and leaned back against the seat.

I had prepared a big surprise for Eric at the ceremony the day after tomorrow too.

After hearing Candice's words, Eric glanced cautiously at me.He then shouted at Candice."Shut up! I've already given you enough money to live out the rest of your life! Why did you still show up in front of me?"Take the pup and get lost! I won't accept him! I will only ever consider Evelyn's pup as my own."Eric's harsh words drove Candice into hysterical laughter and tears."Eric, this is your flesh and blood!"You said you loved me! How can you be so heartless–"I didn't want to listen anymore.Whether they loved or hated each other had nothing to do with me anymore.I took a step back and politely nodded in their direction."You two go on. I'll be leaving."I turned to leave, but suddenly someone grabbed the hem of my coat.Eric was still kneeling in the snow. He looked at me with pleading eyes."Evelyn, don't go. I really have nothing to do with her anymore!"He then turned around and shouted at Candice."Candice! Why did you come here?"Get lost! Take the pup an

After the ball ended, Dean Lawrence and I walked side by side through the snow.He was the first friend I made after coming to the academy, and he had helped me a lot.Recently, it became obvious he was pursuing me.Eric appeared in front of me again.I didn't stop. I simply walked past him.Thud.A dull sound came from behind me. It was followed by gasps from the werewolves around us.I ultimately stopped and looked back.Dean glanced at me. I nodded. He moved to the side, giving me plenty of space. At the same time, he kept a certain distance to make sure he could rush over immediately if anything went wrong.Eric was kneeling in the snow. The hem of his coat soaked through with melted snow.He looked up at me with tear-filled eyes."Evelyn."I had never seen Eric cry.Even in my previous life, when he was suffering from illness toward the end, he had never shed a single tear. That proud Eric was now kneeling in front of me while sobbing his heart out."Evelyn."He

Eric finally received news about me on the fifteenth day.He decisively handed all the pack's affairs over to his Beta.He thought that he should at least fight for one more chance. He wanted to tell me that from now on, he would respect every choice I made. After all, I loved him so much.If he sincerely asked for my forgiveness, I would surely soften my resolve. That was when Candice came barging in while clutching her stomach. Her face was pale, and a thin layer of sweat covered her forehead."Eric, my stomach hurts so bad–"Eric stopped in his tracks.Even after Candice was taken into the healer's den, she still clung tightly to his sleeve. After examining her, the healer sighed."Things aren't looking too good. A shewolf with pup shouldn't be subject to any more stress."Candice lay on the bed while tears streamed down her cheeks and soaked into the pillow."Eric, don't leave. I'm scared of being alone."Eric stood beside the bed for a long time. Finally, he slowly

By the time Eric rushed off the ceremonial platform, his legs were trembling. He didn't even care about the looks from the crowd. All he wanted now was to find me and bring me back.He had never imagined that I would leave him without saying a word.He had always known how much I loved him. That was why he had been so certain that I couldn't live without him. He was so certain that I would forgive anything he did.He never expected I would actually leave. He rushed back to the home he shared with me and kicked open the bedroom door. The bed was empty. My clothes were gone from the walk-in closet.Eric searched the entire house before finally collapsing onto the bedroom floor.Everything was gone.I had removed every trace of myself. It was as if I had completely given up on him.Reluctant to accept it, Eric called every friend we had in common. No one knew where I had gone.In the end, my parents answered the phone. They said only one thing."Eric, don't ever contact us

When Eric discovered that the room was empty, he panicked for a brief moment, but quickly calmed down.He figured I was merely throwing a tantrum and had gone back to my parents' home. The invitations to the marking ceremony had already been sent out. I wouldn't embarrass my parents publicly by failing to show up to the ceremony.Besides, I couldn't live without him.Once he had convinced himself of these things, he completely relaxed. For the next two days, he made no attempt to contact me.He thought I needed some time to think things through. After all, the pup was his bloodline either way. Did it really matter who gave birth to it?It was clearly something that would benefit everyone. Why couldn't I understand that? That night, Eric leaned against the headboard while Candice wrapped her arms around his waist. She was blushing a lot.He impatiently struck the nightstand with his fist. The loud thud startled Candice, but she didn't let go of him. Instead, she gently reassur
