The summer of enlightenment between junior and senior year.

Sade’s POV

The night felt like it was meant for something—though I wasn’t exactly sure what. The sky was dark, but the summer heat still clung to the air, making it feel like the day hadn’t quite given up. The ride to my house was uneventful, except for the soft hum of the car’s engine and the quiet chatter between Marco and Tamara. It felt natural, like old times, even though things between Marco and me had changed in ways I hadn’t expected.

The zoo had been busy tonight. Lincoln Park Zoo was hosting one of its late-night events, and I’d been assigned to work at the bear grotto. It was one of the more popular spots, with the visitors lining up for refreshments and snacks. Tamara, Marco, and I were working the evening shift. Dre didn’t work tonight, and Isla had the day off. The zoo had been packed with families enjoying the summer evening, and as the sun set, it felt like everything around us had slowed down, settling i

The player has been playedSade's POVSummer was flying by. Lincoln Park Zoo was a whole vibe this year, especially with Marco working there, too. It was easy, you know? Just walking around, chatting, doing the same routine every day. But underneath it all, she knew things were shifting, and not just with the animals. She was still technically with Travis, but she was spending more time with Marco, and something about the way he made her feel was different.Travis was off at basketball camp, doing his thing, living his life. It didn’t seem like he missed her much, though. He was busy. She was busy. They texted, FaceTimed when they could, but it wasn’t the same. That was the problem, wasn’t it?Sade would laugh, crack jokes with Marco, and even share moments that felt... real. Like they were on the same page. And yeah, that’s how it started—innocent, friendly. But now? It was different. Marco made her laugh in ways that Travis didn’t anymore, and when they started hanging out more outs

Sade entered her room, closing the door behind her. Marco was near the window, sliding his shirt on and fixing his belt like he didn’t have a care in the world. When he turned to face her, there it was—that big-ass Kool-Aid smile on his face, like he had just won the damn lottery.“You’re back,” he said casually, like everything was cool.Sade rolled her eyes and held up the shoes she had stuffed into her robe earlier. “Yeah, I brought your shoes.”Marco stepped closer, taking the shoes from her hands. His fingers brushed hers, lingering for a second longer than necessary. “Thanks,” he said, slipping them on. “I thought I heard somebody at the door. Who was it?”She shifted awkwardly, brushing a braid off her shoulder. “It was Madison.”Marco froze for a second before cocking his head. “Madison? Damn. What’d she say?”Sade sighed heavily, leaning against the doorframe. “She said I need to handle my shit with Travis. Like, ASAP.”Marco smirked, but there was an edge to it. “Well, your

The Day AfterSade’s Point of ViewThe morning sunlight streamed through Sade's bedroom window, its warmth pulling her from sleep. She stirred, turning over, and froze when her eyes landed on the figure lying next to her. Her heart raced as the events of the previous night came rushing back. Sitting up abruptly, she stared in disbelief at Marco, who was propped up on one elbow, watching her with a satisfied smirk.“Finally, you’re up, sleepyhead. I’ve been watching you for an hour,” he said, his voice playful but tinged with seriousness.Sade’s hand flew to her face as panic set in. “What happened? Oh, my God.” Her voice cracked as she lay back down, clutching the blanket to her chest. “I can’t believe I cheated on Travis. Oh, my God.”Marco’s hand gently slid along her arm, his touch sending shivers through her. “Sade, this was bound to happen,” he said, his tone low and unwavering. “I can’t say it enough—since the moment I met you, I’ve wanted you. You’re mine.”Her breath hitched a

Sade couldn’t take her eyes off Marco as the TV blared in the background, but the noise seemed to fade away. She continued to stare at him, her breath slowing as she felt the tension between them growing stronger with each passing second. Marco reached up and gently cupped her face in his hands, his thumb brushing softly over her lips. The touch sent a shiver down her spine, and before she could fully process it, he pulled her closer, bringing his lips to hers. The kiss was gentle at first, almost as if he was testing the waters, but it quickly deepened, both of them leaning in as the chemistry became undeniable. Sade’s hands moved instinctively, wrapping around his neck, pulling him closer as the kiss grew more urgent. His lips parted slightly, and she followed suit, their mouths meeting in an intensity that made her heart race. The world outside seemed to vanish as they kissed, both caught up in the moment. Slowly, Sade moved onto Marco’s lap and began to straddle him, and Marco’s h

Grown-Up Activities Anonymous POV The lights of the roller skating rink flickered in vibrant neon hues, casting a glow over the party that felt like a scene from a movie. The music pulsed with the latest hits, the floor humming with energy as kids from high school and beyond skated and mingled. It was Tamara’s sweet 16th—her 17th birthday, but who was counting? What mattered was the night was going to be one for the books. The rink was rented out for the night, and the crowd was buzzing, each person in their best “night out” outfit.Sade, dressed in a cropped top and skinny jeans, was at the entrance, tying up her skates. Travis knelt down to help her, his hands steady as he laced up her skates with that soft, comforting touch she had grown accustomed to over the last year. As he finished, he looked up at her with a smile that made her heart flutter. She leaned down and kissed him lightly on the lips before adjusting her outfit.“Ready to roll?” Travis asked, eyes full of affection.
