LAUREN'S POV

He thinks we’re here to take selfies and post on our social media? Really? Does he not even see my age? I wasn’t some teenager who wandered in off the street looking for a good picture with a shiny car. My patience was already starting to thin.

“Look,” I said firmly, holding his gaze, “clearly you’ve misread the whole situation. We’re not here to take selfies of something that isn’t ours. We’re here to actually get a car that car in particular. But you’re jumping into so many conclusions without even knowing if you’re correct or not.”

I took a slow step closer to the man, keeping my voice calm, hoping he would hear the reason in my tone and stop treating me like a nuisance. The polished tile beneath my heels clicked lightly, the sound echoing in the wide dealership lobby.

His expression didn’t shift. If anything, it hardened more. “And I’ve told you that you can’t afford this. Do I look like I’m joking? Or do you want me to call security before you actually realize I’

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0116

ROMAN'S POVI saw the way her reaction shifted the very moment the words left my lips. Her expression faltered, almost like I had pierced through a layer of armor she had carefully built around herself. Her lips parted as though she might reply, but nothing came out. Her gaze flickered away from me for too long, her eyes retreating inward as if she had suddenly been transported far from this room, to a place where only she could go.It felt like I had struck a nerve. But… had I? My question hadn’t been malicious. It hadn’t even been invasive in my eyes. Asking about a child’s father was, to me, a simple, harmless inquiry. Yet here she was, sitting across from me in silence, her whole body language guarded, braced. Why?A sudden unease began crawling under my skin. Could it be… the father was dead? Was she a widow, still grieving silently, carrying the weight alone? My chest tightened at the thought. If that was the case, I had crossed a line I never meant to. I never wanted to cause

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0115

LAUREN'S POV“You have a lovely home,” Roman said as he lowered himself onto the couch, his tall frame sinking comfortably into the soft cushions. His gaze swept across the room with casual ease, but I could see his eyes quietly studying the details of each picture frame, each piece of furniture as though he was piecing together fragments of who I was from the space around me.I forced a polite smile. “Thank you,” I replied, though my chest felt tight.Beside me, Tessa edged closer, her bowl of ice cream in hand. She leaned in so close that her lips were nearly brushing my ear, her whisper low and sharp. “You didn’t tell me you were bringing him in. I thought you guys were going to talk outside.”Her words carried that unmistakable scolding tone, like she was both shocked and amused at the same time.I flicked my eyes toward Roman, who was already watching us with a raised brow. His expression was unreadable — half curious, half suspicious as though he could sense we were whispering a

LAUREN'S POV“How did you even have one of these?” I asked, my eyes narrowing slightly at the oversized chocolate bar in Aria’s small hands. She was nibbling at it with such delight that a thin trail of chocolate already marked the corner of her mouth. The thing was nearly bigger than her head.Roman gave a little shrug, folding his arms across his chest, a boyish grin tugging at his lips. “Well, here’s a little secret you don’t know about me — I love chocolate. I’ve loved them since I was a kid and, honestly, the habit never left me. So I always carry one of these with me whenever I leave the house.”I blinked, studying his expression, searching for any hint of exaggeration. But he looked serious, almost proud, as though carrying around a bar of chocolate was as natural to him as carrying his wallet.“Okay,” I said slowly, raising one brow, “so you also bring this to the office?”“Yeah,” he replied without missing a beat. “You should see my house. I have a whole room full of chocolat

LAUREN'S POV“Alright then, is there something wrong? Because if there is, then you should have told one of the staff to come call me instead of coming all the way here yourself,” I said, my tone polite but edged with curiosity. He shook his head slightly, his eyes fixed on me with a steady, unreadable intensity. “Oh no, everything is fine. I didn’t come here on official business. I came to see you.” His lips curved into a smile, calm yet deliberate, like he already knew the effect his words might have on me.He came to see me, huh? Well, I didn’t want to see him. The last thing I needed right now was my boss standing at my gate, crossing boundaries that shouldn’t even be crossed. This was my home, my safe space. I had already decided I would carry out my plan, let him know I was busy, maybe even not feeling well, so that he could leave quickly without pressing further. But I’d have to phrase it carefully. Too blunt and it would create tension. Too soft and he’d linger.I opened my mo

LAUREN'S POV “Isn’t that your boss?” Tessa said, leaning closer toward my side of the window, squinting like her eyesight needed confirmation. I didn’t even bother answering right away. Of course, I knew it was my boss. Even from a distance, I could recognize that tall figure, the way he carried himself — too composed, too confident. There was no mistaking him. What unsettled me wasn’t who he was, but why he was standing right outside my gate, waiting like he had every right to be there. There was no need for Tessa to state the obvious. The real question spinning in my mind was: how did he find my house, and what in the world was he doing here? “Did you invite him over? I thought you said you turned him down?” Tessa asked, snapping me out of my daze. Her voice carried a mix of suspicion and excitement, like this was some soap opera she’d been dying to watch play out. I didn’t answer immediately. My eyes stayed locked on him through the tinted glass. From where I sat, I could see

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0111

LAUREN'S POVAfter a few minutes of speaking with the receptionist, I noticed the way his shoulders sagged. His head dropped down, and he pinched the bridge of his nose like a man suddenly burdened with the weight of his own mistakes. From that single gesture, I already knew what had happened, he had seen the transfer. He must have been standing there, realizing not only how wrong he’d been, but also calculating how in the world he was going to face me after insulting me so arrogantly.A small, satisfied smile tugged at my lips as I crossed my arms in front of my chest. I didn’t need to hear words to know what was running through his head.Slowly, he turned around, every step back toward us weighted with shame. He eventually stopped in front of us, his expression carefully controlled, though the crack in his composure was obvious. He let out a deep breath, the kind a person takes before swallowing their pride.“We have confirmed your payment,” he finally said, his voice quieter than b
