LAUREN'S POV

The picture of Elena was squeezed tightly in my trembling hand, the edges worn from how often I’d held it, stared at it cried over it. Her innocent smile frozen in time, so full of life, of laughter, of everything that used to make my world make sense.

Now, it all felt like a lie.

I thought I had endured the worst pain imaginable. I thought losing her, my baby, my light, was the most I would ever have to bear. But I was wrong.

What I just heard from Ethan… no, not just heard, what everyone just heard was far worse than anything I could’ve imagined. It was more than betrayal. It was monstrous.

The place had fallen into stunned silence, whispers buzzing like flies in the corners. Eyes flicked from me to him, judgment heavy in the air. People exchanged glances, disbelief etched into their faces, as if unsure whether they had truly heard what they thought they had.

And Ethan? He stood there with that same look on his face, confusion… or was it guilt trying to wear the mask of

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0224

ROMAN'S POV I watched Aria carefully as Lauren spoke to her, noticing every subtle movement of her little body, every flicker of emotion across her delicate features. Her eyes were wide and attentive, her little hands resting beside her as she listened to her mother’s words. I wasn’t expecting much reaction from her because she was still very young. I didn’t think I’d ever seen a five-year-old throw a tantrum simply because they had just found out who their real father was. But even if she did shock everyone and reacted in exactly that way, I knew I would completely understand. Aria didn’t show any reaction to what Lauren had just said. She was quiet, almost pensive, her lips pressed together lightly as her large, curious eyes followed Lauren’s every movement. I was fairly certain she understood what Lauren was talking about, but she just kept silent, processing everything in her own little way. Her quietness wasn’t indifference; it was careful thought, a reflection of her young mi

ROMAN'S POV “Anyways, to recover from all the stress Aria gave me today, I got some nice steak and Italian rice, not just for me alone, I got for you guys too,” Tessa said slowly, carefully bringing out a small plate from the takeout bags. She placed it on the coffee table with care, her movements deliberate, as if she wanted to make sure everyone noticed her effort. “Nah, we’re good. We’re having a nice little dinner tonight, so I don’t wanna fill myself up before then,” Lauren said calmly, shaking her head with that serene, composed smile. Her tone was polite but firm, leaving no room for argument. “It’s a special dinner, right? Because everyone has dinner at their house every day,” Tessa said, her voice dripping with sarcasm, a smirk curling at the corner of her lips as she leaned back against the couch. “Of course it is. My twin sister, the one I told you about over the phone yesterday, she’s coming,” Lauren said, there was a spark of excitement in her eyes that betrayed her c

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0222

ROMAN'S POV I let out a small sigh, then gently pinched the bridge of my nose with my thumb and index finger, trying to ease the tension that had been sitting there all day. It was almost surprising how quickly Lauren noticed it. She had already picked up on how distracted I was at the office, and now, even after we got home, I couldn’t hide it from her either. She saw straight through me like she always did. “Tell me what’s wrong, I'm here,” Lauren said again. Her voice was soft, steady, but carried that little firmness she used whenever she wasn’t planning to let something slide. She took a seat next to me, turning her full attention on me, her gaze fixed, waiting. Obviously, I wasn’t going to tell her the truth, that everything on my mind today was centered on the fact that I had to cancel the proposal I’d been planning because her sister would be coming over. That would be an absolutely terrible idea. It would ruin the mood for tonight, it would make her feel guilty, and most i

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0221

ROMAN'S POV Our car finally pulled up in our driveway, the familiar dark bricks and tall trees greeting us like they always did. The moment the driver stopped the engine, I didn’t waste any time. I pushed the door open and stepped out, letting out a silent breath as the cool breeze hit my face. I adjusted my suit jacket almost out of habit, smoothing the fabric down as I headed toward the front door. My pace was steady but tired, and I could hear Lauren’s softer footsteps following close behind me. Today had drained everything out of me. Every last drop of energy I thought I had left in me was scraped out at the office. Work had piled up like a mountain. Ever since Hale Industries no longer had a real competition to deal with, more investors had been calling nonstop, asking for meetings, demanding discussions, trying to strike deals before anyone else could get ahead of them. And because the matter was delicate, I had to personally attend to every single one of them, along with Laur

ELIZABETH'S POV I knew why she was calling. Jessica never wasted time, especially when she was waiting for juicy updates, so I already knew she wanted to ask how everything went and if Lauren was truly my sister. The phone kept buzzing beside me, vibrating against the covers like it was rushing me. I let out a small breath, picked it up, and answered, placing the phone against my ear. “Tell me, did you confirm it? Is she your twin?” Jessica asked immediately, sounding like she’d been holding the question in her chest all day. “Well, from what I’ve seen so far, I would likely say yes. Like you said, there’s no need to go to the hospital to confirm it. She literally looked like my photocopy today, we even wore the same dress.” I said, sitting down on the bed and crossing my legs slowly, letting myself sink into the mattress. “Wow, that’s good news, I am really happy for you,” Jessica said. “Yeah, whatever,” I replied, shrugging it off like it was some boring update from a stran

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0219

ELIZABETH'S POV All my life, I’ve always gotten what I wanted. It wasn’t something I hid, and it wasn’t something I was ashamed of. Even though I’m currently annoyed with my parents and still not fully over the fact that they kept the truth about my adoption hidden from me, they have still been the best parents I could have ever asked for. They raised me like a princess — no, scratch that, they raised me like a queen. They gave me anything and everything I ever wanted, from the smallest little trinket I pointed at as a child to the most outrageous demands I made as a teenager. And the most important thing they ever gave me was a mentality, a belief that if you want something badly enough and you put your mind towards it, then nothing is impossible. You can have anything you want. And right now… I was going to put that mentality straight into work. Because the moment I set my eyes on Roman Hale, something in me shifted. It wasn’t the usual curiosity or that slight feminine excitemen
