Chapter 1

The next second, a voice message from Isabel Atkinson, my wife, came through.

She sounded impatient. "Colin Marsh, are you crazy? Are you really threatening to divorce me over a social media post?"

After listening to her voice message, I calmly blocked her number.

My parents, Greg Marsh and Penny Ford, came over after entertaining their friends. Seeing my expression, Mom asked worriedly, "What's wrong, Colin? Did something happen to Izzy?"

I shook my head. "She's fine. Let's start eating. We don't have to wait for her."

Glancing at the empty spot beside me, Dad patted my shoulders with concern. "Okay, but make sure you tell us right away if anything comes up."

I forced out a smile. "Got it."

Not long after the event began, a message popped up in the company's design department group chat.

"Sorry, everyone. Isabel only looked out for me since she knew I had a tough start in life. I had no idea it would upset the boss."

"I've already taken down the post…"

A teary emoji was attached with these messages.

Isabel immediately spoke up to back the man, Miles Horton. "You did nothing wrong, Miles. Some people are just too petty and can't stand seeing you succeed."

As soon as she spoke, those close to her jumped in to support her. "Yes, Miles. There's no need to apologize. People like that find everything disgusting."

"The one apologizing shouldn't be you. Everyone knows who I mean."

With Isabel backing them up, they grew bolder, even openly saying my name without hesitation.

Isabel's pampering had really gone to their heads. They had already forgotten who was in charge of the design department.

I didn't let it slide either. Anyone who joined in the bashing was kicked out of the group, including Miles.

He was just an intern, yet he liked to stir up trouble.

The company chat group went quiet all of a sudden. I added, "Go on, keep chatting. Don't let a few irrelevant people spoil the mood."

After the celebration ended, my parents and I saw off the guests.

Dad looked a little uneasy, so he was probably aware of what had happened with Isabel. He patted my shoulder and said, "Colin, sort out your own business quietly. Don't give others a reason to mock you."

I lowered my head and flashed him a bitter smile. "I know."

I soon arrived home and switched on the lights to find Isabel sitting on the sofa with her legs crossed.

Upon seeing me, she frowned and snapped, "Colin, what's gotten into you? Do you even realize how much effort Miles has put in to get where he is now, given his rural background? You kicked him out of the group chat like it's nothing. Have you thought about how that makes him look in front of the others?"

She continued, "I can't believe you're this petty even though we've been married for years. I just looked out for him a little. Was that really necessary?"

I rubbed my brow and looked at her mockingly. "How many 50th anniversaries do you think my parents will have? You kept saying you'd be late because of a client. Why didn't you just say you couldn't make it? You made everyone wait and turned it into such a mess."

Throughout all our years of marriage, I'd always tolerated Isabel.

I never raised my voice at her and would quietly clean up after her whenever she left a mess behind.

It was the first time I had ever been this angry.

Isabel went silent, clearly shocked by my outburst. She looked at me and said, "Fine, I admit I wasn't thinking and messed up this time. Now add Miles back to the group chat and apologize to him. We'll celebrate your parents' 50th anniversary together another day, okay?"

I crossed my arms. "Isabel, have you seen anyone who has a redo for a 50th wedding anniversary?"

Isabel's expression went cold as she shot back, "What more do you want? I'm letting you take the easy way out. Can you stop acting up? You talked about divorce papers and kicked Miles out of the group chat when I even got you a gift! That's ungrateful of you."

Isabel pulled out two shirts, but I could tell at a glance that they weren't my size.

I snorted icily and glared at her. "Are you sure they're my size? Can't believe you're saying you bought them for me."

Miles wasn't muscular and was on the lean side, so they were obviously his size.

Isabel stomped her foot, but I was too tired to reason with her. I simply pulled the divorce papers out of my bag and said, "That's enough, Isabel. Let's get a divorce."

Sometime later, nudes of Isabel suddenly started circulating online. They were the very ones Miles had taken before. There was no doubt this was his doing. He had attacked me in public before, but since he'd failed to cause much harm, he only got detained for a month and was given a verbal warning.Miles was a good actor. He probably pretended to be reformed just to get out.Isabel was devastated.Atkinson Group took a heavy hit, leaving Ted sick and bedridden. One night, Isabel called me when I was in the shower. Jenny answered the call.Isabel cried and kept talking about how much she regretted everything. After hearing her outburst, Jenny fell silent for a moment before saying, "Mrs. Atkinson…"Right after Jenny said that, Isabel hung up.But none of that had anything to do with me anymore. Two months later, one ordinary afternoon, Jenny was watching TV in the living room when she let out a scream.I hurried out of the kitchen. "What's wrong?"Jenny pointed at the TV a

None of those things had anything to do with me anymore. Now that Isabel was out of work and had nothing to do, she ended up harassing me every day.She even spread malicious rumors to my neighbors, claiming I cheated on her and that Jenny was a homewrecker. One day, Jenny and I had just returned from a date when we bumped into Isabel at the lobby of the studio.Isabel gazed at me, tears welling up in her eyes. "Colin…"I held Jenny's hand tightly. "You're stubborn."Despite her petite frame, Jenny stood in front of me. "Ms. Atkinson, this is too much. You never valued Colin when you were married, and when he left, your pride stopped you from making things right. "Now, you claim you want to fix things, but all you do is spread rumors and drag innocent people into slandering us. If this is what you call love, then Colin was right to leave you." Jenny then led me away without looking back, leaving Isabel standing there, heartbroken and alone.I glanced at Jenny, my heart fille

Hearing Jenny's voice, Isabel went crazy. "Why? Why? Why? You homewrecker, how dare you say that to me?" I put the call on speaker and snapped, "Look, we've been divorced for over six months. You're the one who cheated. Jenny and I are married now, so she's not the problem. You are.""Colin Marsh, you'll regret this! You will!"I ignored her and hung up.Then, I pulled Jenny into my arms, and we fell asleep holding each other.…The preliminary rounds went off without a hitch. Our next meeting would be at the final.I never expected that Miles and Isabel would still be able to work together calmly after that incident.Watching Isabel step out wearing the jewelry Miles had designed, I couldn't help but shake my head quietly. It was the same problem—piling on flashy jewelry with no soul or real beauty.Isabel wasn't in a good state either. When there was tension between a designer and a model, it would show and hurt the work itself. They were both too focused on getting quick

After I got home, I used the savings I had built up over the years to start my own studio. My family wasn't dirt poor. We just weren't as rich as the Atkinsons.Following three months of preparation, my studio finally opened for business. On the opening day, only a junior from college, along with a few relatives and friends, came to congratulate me.After dinner, I saw my relatives and friends off and then returned to the studio. There, under a dim light, my junior, Jenny Clarke, stood holding her coat, quietly looking at my design. She turned when she heard me come in. Her waist-length hair swayed as she smiled brightly. "Colin, your design still feels so full of life."It was a simple compliment, but I felt my heart skip a beat.I walked up behind her, and our shadows overlapped on the wall, almost as if we were standing close together.I lowered my head as I took the piece from the display and gently put it on her, watching her eyes widen in surprise.Jenny was flustered. "

The next second, Miles lowered his head. "I'll apologize to Colin, okay? Sorry, Colin. I shouldn't have—"I cut him short. "No need for that. The divorce has been finalized, so it doesn't matter anymore."Isabel rushed forward. "How can it not matter? We've been married for so many years. I don't believe you can just throw away everything we had so easily! And I refuse to believe you'd walk away from the company after pouring so many years of effort into it!"I stared straight at her and said earnestly, "You're right, Isabel. A relationship built over so many years isn't something I could just walk away from. But you kept crossing my boundaries, again and again, until the disappointment piled up and there was nothing left of how I felt."As I spoke, her tears kept falling."I don't want the company anymore either. You can have it. Fortunately, your Miles already signed my resignation letter for me. I should be thanking him."Isabel broke into tears. "No, you can't do this. I don'

When Ted saw the photos, he erupted in rage. Moira's eyes widened as she snapped, "Colin Marsh, Izzy is your wife! How could you take photos of her like this? Are you trying to ruin her?"Isabel took one look at the signature on the divorce papers and raised her voice. "I never signed the divorce papers! How dare you forge my signature?"Miles quickly tried to smooth things over. "Please stop, Colin. You should apologize to Mr. and Mrs. Atkinson. This isn't the place to say these things."I glanced at him. "What kind of occasion is this?"Isabel gritted her teeth. "A gathering between our families. Are you trying to ruin it?"I spread my hands. "I have a question for you too. If this is a gathering between our families, what right does Miles have to be here? Is he your lover boy? Or your half-sibling?"The three were rendered speechless by my question.I gave a calm, icy smile and pointed to the stack of photos on the table. "You claim I took these photos, but look closely, Is
