Chapter 1

Author: Nameless
Scarlett Poole’s voice was icy. “Ten million on the insane father and son to die.”

The crowd broke out in laughter, shaking their heads.

There were clearly no winners in this game.

Anyone with limited mobility and a child strapped on their back would have trouble evading the pack of hyenas and young, aggressive NPC pursuers.

However, Scarlett couldn’t care less. She simply slid a stack of high-roller chips onto the table.

“Ten million bucks to keep my Jayden happy.”

“You’re the queen, Scarlett. You just dropped ten mil on your lover boy, but I believe your husband’s wedding band only cost a grand. He’d cry his eyes out if he ever finds out. Hahaha!”

Scarlett lit a cigar for Jayden Cast while uttering matter-of-factly, “Lovers are meant to be spoiled. Damian is sensible and frugal. A credit card with a modest limit is enough to make his day.”

Listening to her voice, I could hardly reconcile the woman speaking with the loving wife I knew.

Through eight years together, I stood by her side as she built an empire, growing from a broke college student into a self-made billionaire.

When she dropped to one knee to propose with a thousand-dollar plain ring, Scarlett could barely hold the box through her sobs.

I pulled her into a kiss and said yes with a smile while holding my hand out for the ring.

Here I thought we had the fairy-tale romance everybody envied, but I never dreamed she’d been keeping a side piece for five years.

To make the ten million bet worthwhile, the NPC of the game shoved a hood over my head, hauled me up by the rope around my neck, and showcased my vitals to the camera from all angles.

I hung there limply, my feet off the ground and dangling like a broken doll.

A vivid pool of red spread beneath my feet.

The game host projected the data onto the big panel and scoffed.

“Well, if you look at that, two heartbeats! Two hearts beating as one, now and forever.”

Through the hood, I saw Scarlett’s eyes narrowing, and her grip on Jayden loosening.

A wave of sad relief washed over me when I thought she had recognized me.

However, Scarlett simply curled her lips. “I thought my Damian was one of a kind. I didn’t expect to meet someone with the same condition.”

As she sank back into her seat, despair gripped me.

It took everything in me to gesture a sign.

It was the signal we’d come up with after I got lost at the amusement park for the first time. Back then, Scarlett looked at me, her eyes full of tenderness.

“Damian, if we ever get separated again, pull this gesture. I’ll always find you even if you wear a mask in the crowd.”

Yet the moment I used the sign for real, her eyes held nothing but disgust as Scarlett instructed the NPC to break my fingers.

“That gesture is reserved for Damian. You’re practically half-dead and still, you had the audacity to get my attention by pretending to be him.

“Release two more hyenas. That should show him.”

Foul, dripping fangs sank into my flesh. I coiled my body around my baby, screaming and rolling in the dirt as a trail of blood painted the ground.

Her best friend, Yvonne Reel, was the first to cheer, her voice dripping with envy.

“If you ask me, Damian sure has it good. He’s the luckiest man in the city to have your heart for years.

“The same thing can’t be said for this loser here. It’s his terrible luck to end up with a heartless wife.”

Amid the darkness, I pulled a wry smile.

  • No Way Home   Chapter 10

“Scarlett, did you really think God would answer prayers that were never meant to come true?” With each word I spoke, Scarlett grew paler, and her shoulders slumped. She then pulled out a knife. I inched back warily. To my surprise, Scarlett handed me the blade, her eyes flushed red. “Here, take the blade. You can kill me if that makes you feel better.” Her eyes bore no fear. As I barely held onto the blade, Scarlett became sure that I could never hurt her. Not shattering her illusion, I kept giving her an attitude. “Oh, really? Why, though? Aren’t you head over heels in love with Jayden? “With me out of the way, he’ll become your husband.” Scarlett took the bait and swore up and down right in front of Jayden. “Trust me, Damian. He was nothing but a fling to me. “I’ll get rid of him now.” The brutality in her gaze made me shudder. I would have held a sliver of respect for her had she stood firmly by her affection for Jayden. However, she simply narrowed

  • No Way Home   Chapter 9

“Scarlett, it hurts!” Scarlett didn’t even look at Jayden. The second our eyes met, Scarlett took strides toward me. When she was just a step away, I squeezed out every last drop of my strength and rasped, “Don’t come any closer! You make my skin crawl!” She teared up, hurt by the look in my eyes. In the past, all she had to do was look fragile, and I would forgive her for anything at all. This time, she could bawl her eyes out for all I cared. I would not feel anything for her. She reached me and wrapped both hands around mine, holding on with desperate strength as I struggled against her.“Damian, please… I made the biggest mistake of my life. I’ve ended things with Jayden. He’s out of our lives for good. You’re the only one for me. “I know you can’t forgive me right now. I don’t blame you. Our son’s death... it’s on me.“I’ll make it up to you. Trust me. I’ve changed.” She was inconsolable. The mention of our son unleashed the rage and hatred in me. She coul

  • No Way Home   Chapter 8

Jayden noticed that Scarlett had been swamped lately. He barely got to see her. Scarlett split her time between visiting me at the hospital and the office. The back-and-forth pushed her mind and body to the brink of exhaustion. Overjoyed, Jayden saw this as his golden opportunity. He put on Scarlett’s favorite lab coat roleplay outfit and hid inside her private lounge at the office. Scarlett would get a nosebleed when she walked right into the steamy room. Previously, all it took was this outfit for Scarlett to throw herself at him, making the bed squeak through the entire night.Feeling her hand on his shoulder, Jayden shivered with thrill as if he could already see his future as the husband of the richest woman in the city. However, Scarlett simply took a callous look at him and smacked him square in the jaw. “My husband is in a coma right now, and you think this is appropriate? Is this some kind of sick joke? “If you make an enemy of Damian, you’ve made one of me.”

  • No Way Home   Chapter 7

Unable to accept the fact that I was in a coma, Scarlett summoned all the top neurosurgeons in the world for a consultation. In between, Scarlett visited and took notes of families whose loved ones had woken up from their coma. She offered tens of millions of dollars for any information at all. Once, she put a ten-million-dollar price on my life. Now, she was willing to pay over ten times that just to wake me up.Still, no amount of money or desperate measures could change the outcome. There was nothing she could do except pray for a miracle. That day, Scarlett fell awfully silent as the doctors gave their medical opinions. Without a word, she drove to the old hillside chapel where I’d often gone and knelt before the altar before lighting a candle for our son. Instead of placing it among the candles for healing and hope, the church attendant carried it to the remembrance table, where photographs, sympathy cards, and handwritten prayers honored those who had passed away.S

  • No Way Home   Chapter 6

It felt like a sick joke played by fate. Scarlett clutched the ring and stared at it long and hard.It took a while before her voice cracked. “This… can’t be real.” With things spiraling out of control, Jayden took her arm, but Scarlett pushed him away. As reality seemed to crash down on her, Scarlett staggered toward me. “Damian, babe… Is that really you? “This isn’t happening. You had so many chances to tell me. Why didn’t you say something?” Scarlett’s eyes were bloodshot with regret, but all I wanted to do was sneer at her. Didn’t say something? What about the hand gestures I signed? What were those repeated attempts to grab her hand then? I did everything I could to tell her that I was Damian. Yet, what did I get in return? My pleas to her were met with threats and physical attacks that knocked my teeth out. Worst of all, Scarlett’s mind wandered to the infant with his tiny body cut open. She froze, her complexion discolored. Her teeth chattered violently.

  • No Way Home   Chapter 5

I believed I might be dead. As my eyelids fell shut, all the pain just disappeared. Adrift in a haze, I thought I could finally sleep in peace. However, my soul hovered into the air on its own. Only when I stood alongside the weeping medical staff, gazing down at my own bloodstained body, did I realize I was, in fact, dead.Had the young nurse not been clutching the dead man’s hand so tightly, I would never have believed I was lying there. In less than twenty-four hours, I, who used to be obsessed with cleanliness, looked like I came from the dump. I was caked in blood and grime, reeking of stale sweat. My body was covered in cuts and bruises. The mottled scars had taken on a sickly white hue.Amid her weeping, the young nurse cleaned out the scraps of cotton in my mouth. The head nurse gave her a nudge. “It’s time to wrap it up and inform his next of kin.” The door of the operating room swung open. Scarlett was back again. She aggressively barged into the opera
